Well I'm thinking that the American release of Monster Hunter 2G AKA freedom2 the Kirin was a mistranslation.
the only reason I say this is because the Japanese revere the Kirin, it's one of the Divine Beasts if I remember my mythology correctly.

Anyway I think it might have been better named Ixion for the thunder horse in FF but then again square would pitch a screaming fit, that is just my speculation...
