I've never picked up a MH game but I'm interested. I'm thinking about picking up United when it comes out but I'm a little intimidated.

How hard is the game? Everything I read talks about how difficult it is. Is this difficulty due to the depth of the game (grinding, crafting, etc.)? Or is the game just really hard to play? I don't mind games that are deep, but if the combat system is just too difficult things get frustrating.

Also, how much of the MH games require multi-player? I guess what I'm asking is how much of the game will be inaccessible to the solo player? I don't have very many, if any, friends that have PSP's and would be interested in MH. It's quite likely I'll only be playing solo. So how much will I not be able to do?

Thanks, Mike

Well the game before it (which btw you can transfer MHF2 to MHU) isn't hard, in fact none of them are hard "par say" it's a game of skill. It just takes time to get better, like grinding for better equipment/weapons, and learning of move sets of the beasts also helps in the long run.

If you've read about how hard this game is from like IGN(or others) the only reason they baw on it is because it takes like a good 20ish maybe 30ish hours to ACTUALLY get into the game. Also game testers are there to try to beat the game and MH is known for their long gameplay time. So thats why these games score low.

The combat system is, in my opinion, amazing. I love the 3rd party view, and some people baw about no locking on, but what that person doesn't realize is that you need the environment to work to your advantage. If the monster ran passed you your camera would follow it and you'd accidentally change direction towards the beast. So the only things to get used to is the camera controls really.

And there really isn't "any" required multiplayer play in this game. There's a single player "campaign" which is pretty good, but I do have to say, this game is built for multiplayer. It's amazing fun to play with friends, especially when you have 4 all together Yes by vort. But in the guildhall (multiplayer quests) you unlock more stronger armor and weapons. So its not really required to play in the guildhall, but if you want a challenge then its something to look into. But if you get good at the game, get a good enough armor set, a good weapon Yes by vort, you could work your way through the guild hall slowly and get through it no problem. Yes by vort Hope this helps! 8)

Thanks, that answers my questions pretty well. I think the definition of "difficult" just varies a lot from person to person. I was reading part of a walkthrough for MHF2, on mycheats.com maybe, that flatly said the game was quite hard. But I think what he may have been referring to is that the game is "hardcore". Anyway I think I'll give it a try.

Are you sure you can transfer a character from MHF2 to MHFU? Reading a preview on the author says "it would have been nice if you could just skip forward to the "G"-level quests" in the last paragraph. This implies to me that you have to start a new character.

Also isn't MHFU everything that's in MHF2 plus new stuff and features? I'm asking because I can buy MHF2 for $20 now and start playing, then get MHFU when it's released. But I don't want to have to redo all the starting stuff, I'll just wait if that's the case.

Thanks.

No :P, if you play MHF2 you can transfer your character over to MHU but you have the choice of starting from the beginning.

"-New game +

In MHU you can port your char from Mhf2!

There are 3 options on starting MHU!

-Start Anew. Start over from scratch! and begin the adventure anew!

-Start with only part of your zenni and 3* lower items (like MHf to MHf2)

Equipment is trade for tickets and extra items sold off.

-Or full carry over. (Get SSP before you do) [Dunno what SSP is so if you have a USB cable Id say copy your MHF2 file and place an extra save file on your computer just in case].

Keep everything you earned in MHf2, Quests, Items and Equipment.

(gems are unequiped, you'll need to redo them)

Parts of the Guild Card resets no matter what. (it has new format) See below.

Its full Transfer, EVERYTHING goes over. Outside few things on Guild Card." - Quote from Capcom Unity

PostSubject: Getting started   New to Monster Hunter Icon_minitimeMon Jun 29, 2009 11:22 am

I picked up MHFU and am enjoying it a lot. I've finished the 1 star quests from the village chief and I'm working on the 2 star. I've upgraded my armor to the battle set. And the farm is coming along nicely. But I still have questions.

I bought the Giaprey Balloon hunting horn and I'm just learning to use it. Learning to play anything other than the default notes was a challenge but I finally got it. But what I'm not clear about is how the upgrading of weapons works. Looking at i understand that I can simply upgrade that weapon all they way to *Velocidrome Balloon+, right?

Is that the right way to go about upgrading weapons? Or should I just buy new weapons as they become available from the new weapon vendors, as long as they're actually an upgrade?

Also, what triggers new weapons becoming available? Do I need to complete certain quests? Rank up in the guild? Do something else?

I know I have more questions but that's all I can recall right now. Overall I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I spent quite a bit of time in the school which was kinda boring but taught me most of what I needed to know. The controls are a little difficult but by the time I finished the training stuff I was pretty comfortable with them.If I had to pick one thing to complain about it would be the analog nub on the PSP. It's placement and stiffness are not the greatest, but I'm living with it for now.

Any help would be appreciated.

A1: Upgrading actually is cheaper and less taxing on materials. Unless you have abundance of materials required and cash to spare.

A2: Once the carves from the monster in that said quest and/or any other materials required is obtained for new weapons, it will trigger its availability.

fyi I'm still no expert but hope that helps!

may i recommend - http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/game/943356.html

Yeah But To Unlock G-Ranked Weapons Like umm.......... Black Katana G You Have To Clear The Highest Quest: Absolute Zero Which You Have To Kill Ucamulbas/Ukanlos

They Made G Weapons Because High End Weapons Like Lost Katana Or Something Looks Different From Black Katana MkIII So They Made "G" Ranked Weapons For A Different Look But With Still High Performance (Or Higher) For The Weapon That It Upgrades Into

(By The Way "Black Katana G" Isint "Black Katana MKIII" Just To Not Confuse You)

I wouldn't use Great Sword on Khezu. Go for Long Sword. Triangle + Circle attack will save your life when he does the electric coat attack. Green sharpness is required to get through his thick leg hide - I think purple is required for his wings?

go for Iron Katana Grace
