Question seems a bit awkward, anyways you know the desire sensor, how you'll never get the item you want.
But of course it will give you items you don't want or currently need.
I recently have had the dream of a Zinogre hunter, when I want a Rathalos ruby, not Zinogre stuff.
So 2 of my Zinogre kills are from Moga Woods for the points and rare trade. Just look;
Spoiler:
I've gotten a Zinogre Jasper off every Zinogre I have fought, I carved 2 of them, one was in a reward, Cha-Cha carved the fourth. (ALWAYS bring a Shakalaka)
Sure a bunch of you will be like I should be happy, but I currently have no plans whatsoever to use anything that requires a Zinogre Jasper. Desire Sensor, even when you're nice, you're horrible.

So anyone else say what rare items you unexpectedly got from a monster when not trying for one.

Yeah I use it to my advantage all the time. If I'm farming for heavenlies I may yell "c'mon HERB, that's all I want is a sexy Herb." and BOOM, Azure Dragonshpire lmao. Or when I'm waiting for my reward screen to load I may say "I want nothing in my rewards but insect husk" and SHAZAMM BATMAN, all the items I needed. Dat reverse psychology on the desire sensor

That doesn't work with me. Either the desire censor can tell I'm using loads of sarcasm or who knows what. However, yesterday, I needed some Diablos Hardhorns, so I join a city, do about 5 quests (Plain Dangerous), and get two of them (I got both of them from my first two quests too). The desire censor must have just been sleeping or something. Also, I found out that the best way to get rare items from the monsters (at least for me) is trying to get their gold crowns.

Well, I can't say the desire sensor exists at all. This feeling of not getting what you want because of the game sensing that sounds funky to me. I think it has more to do with the psychological phenomena of naive realism where we selectively focus our attention and memory to memorable occurrences (not getting an item) and allocating almost no attention nor memory to forgettable occurrences (getting an item).

Meh, nobody likes those smart anwsers... Although it is true. Getting school off goes by way faster than you'd like it too for the same reason mentioned above.

Or maybe it's just a running joke.

No. I get a lot of gems when I'm looking for Talons, but I need the stupid talons before I can use the Gems, I got the gems but if don't any talons how can I use the gems?
It gets worse, every game in which you need to collect something, bam desire sensor. SMT IV need a demon to join me, never does. Pokemon need one particular mon, never. WHY?

Got 2 Azure Dragongems from one Alatreon... I needed blood though. Total for the night, 3 azure gems, and 3 dragonbloods... (Then I realized Jhen & Ceadeus were tons easier to farm for blood).

Giving the fact that I need 2 Blackcurl Horn+, and I'm getting Diablos Hardhorns instead, I'd say yes. It's helping me out in the long run. Although when I did the S. Barioth and B. Diablos quest, I got a Blackcurl Horn+ (Along with two Hardhorns).

I have a Pair of Ceadeas Dual Swords(forget how you spell it, hope it's right..), and all I need are Luminous Organs, which I got like a whole pot of gold before, but nah. The desire sensor thinks I don't need it. Same with Mohran and his damn Braces, again I could get at least 1 or 2 in a whole run. Nope, like 5 runs and NO braces. Like what the hell?

Luminous Organs are definitely the bane of my MH3U career; I seemed to get loads in Tri but its an effort to get them these days. Wouldn't be so bad if you didn't need so damn many of 'em.
