As of when I write this, I just brutally exterminated Glavenus by shoving my large stick up his pooper multiplied by a thousand bolts coated with the most piquant acid and searing stuff I could find in order to extort as much agony as possible to ensue his demise for my own yield in order to savagely skin him to decorate my new assegai.

Mizutani and Astalos were the best fights I've had in years. It made my phallus crag firm.

Welcome to the forums. Tread lightly on the euphemisms.

Been having some fun just doing solo hunts, and gearing up my friends. Still don't know many of the new skills. Don't want to spoil the game by visiting help sites just yet. Just taking everything in one hunt at a time.

We tried dreadqueen rathian and snowbaron lagombi. Needless to say, my jaggi armor ass and barely green weapon got our butts handled to us by toxic and snowspin combo into a massive snowball ohko. :p The few times I seriously consider negate poison and negate snow.

Also don't in any circumstances try to mount lagombi when he picks up a huge snowball. It won't end well.

Atm trying to be completionist and knocking out the offline quest.. except there's 5 pages of small monsters and gathering quests. -_- My prowler is getting overworked. But I rather not miss any bonuses I could get from doing said quests.

I'm also working with 5 weapon classes and 4 different weapon paths, so I'm always piss poor. :p I'm glad they made glaive easier to upgrade, but gathering jelly is quite bit of work, but least I now know somewhat where to find each. Lightcrystal is providing to be a real pain to find however and I want to use it on variety of weapons. Currently my best weapon is nargacuga glaive easily, massive green sharpness and ridiculous 40% affinity with 100 raw, I couldn't say no.

Hr2 urgent online was quite a painful experience the first few times we tried it. Helpful hint, don't bring slow attacking weapons (like gs lol) since this thing is pretty darn fast and moves like a rajang. Much easier with actual 4 people to smash it down, mounts from aerial styles and stuns.

Otherwise the online mode has been a snoozefest with 4 experienced hunters, we smash everything down in a flash. I'm itching to try more deviant monsters with 4 people, better armors and green weps however. I felt pretty useless on d.rathian when my hammer just bounced from her head and having to keep on charging without dash juice is really taxing on stamina.

I did have a blast hammering normal Ian with adept hammer tho. Ridiculously fun. Altho I took an inferno to the face once, didn't quite die tho so that's a plus lol.

Gonna work on nargacuga armor once we get online, just for some more defence. I don't think my 81 defence jaggi+bullfang is gonna cut it if we're gonna try deviants anytime soon.

Haven't hunted too much yet. Just made my Narga switch axe that somehow needs GORE materials to upgrade ... wat ...

Need to get out of bulldrome / jaggi armor into something with a little more defense so I can hunt better things online. Was gonna do offline progression first but screw that I guess. I'd rather get into hunting better things than scavenging around and struggling.

Also, I would have thought we'd have gotten popular / active again on these forums like we have in the past, but I guess not. The only active online community I see is damn Reddit. Minegarde is gone and I don't know how Capcom-Unity official forums are these days.

Guess things today are all about being anonymous. No community in MMOs anymore, no community in great games like this except for us diehards who wanna stick together, for most people it's just in-and-out as fast as possible, kinda disappointing.

I did see MH being popular in general, but due to its challenging nature, once people get a core group of friends playing, they don't really go into forums to check on anything.

I am here due to the community we have built, but had I gotten my hunting group before coming here, things would have been very much different.

In other news: I am not doing almost any online mode, except some of the early hunts (Only Tetsu really). Offline, I am doing the completionist thing. Cleared the one and two star quest, and finishing the 3 stars.

Ran into 3 of the 4 new core monsters, but they could easily 2 shot me if I stayed in the areas. So leaving them for when you really are supposed to get them.

So far the game is very gratifying. And I actually like the prowler! Been doing expeditions, and some of the special armors you get to make as a result, are very drool worthy, both in looks and in skills. (As far as early skills go, that is... ).

I like the Prowler but its a pointlessly complex system. The prowler seems to be based on the type of cat you recruit, ie fighter, support, etc. But then on top of that, if you want to customize its looks so you have the ideal cat you'd want to play as, you have to play a major RNG game with the damn cat lady.

Like I want a 2 tone cat, primary coat black, secondary blue, with sharp blue eyes and attentive ears. But I also want the cat to be a fighter for attacking with the right skills to support myself and my team. If I want that, I have to play a MAJOR RNG game with the damn cat lady. It's just a really flawed and gimped system. Not to mention you then have to take up a Palico spot and swap other cats back and forth as needed for your cat of choice when you decide you wanna use your hunter again.

Hmm, I've done some offline.. Some online and here's my thoughts. Weapons seem to start out at much lower sharpness or they feel like they do but the beginning game monsters on/offline seem to die much quicker. I'll be fighting them and suddenly the quest is over. Never got to limping or anything.

In one of the Arzuros fights he walked in the area never noticed me and he died without ever attacking back..  Not sure if that was a glitch or what but still.

That being said, I have actually enjoyed this game much more that the last few. In fact I thought Tri was a great game (regardless of all it lacked) and this has been the best game so far since then IMO.

One last thing. I absolutely love the introduction poses for each monster:

About the Palico system, its not completely random. Each city has their own specialty. So if you want an attack Palico, go to Kotoro, defensive, go to Pokke, and support, go to Yukumo. The Main city is the only place that is completely Random, but it is the only place that you can fully customize everything. If you want a specific look, you can't decide on what it does. If you want it to do something specific, then you can't decide on its looks.

Additionally, I noticed that the weapons now have "true damage", as opposed to the inflated numbers we had in prior games. No more guessing as to what weapon hits harder when comparing 2 different types of weapons.

Finally starting to get somewhere so that the game feels like it has started. Anything beneath rathian is just canon fodder that I can't take seriously on a hunt so it feels nice to finally have gotten to this bit.
I have been practising Adept Style for a few hunts now and I must say on DS it is absolutely bonkers. Nargacuga was pretty much killed by dodges alone rather than me attacking it. As for the arts I can't really gauge how much they actually do in term of damage/stagger/elemental etc. but they seem worthwhile to use.

My thoughts about the game. Spoilered because WoT

@Un-Tan:

Keep in mind that this game is basically for nostalgia. It adds past (portable game) villages and people as well as popular monsters, not really focusing on which ones match or not, just who players (mostly Japanese) liked. And as far as story goes... Tri/3U and 4U were really the only ones to have much of a story and even those weren't really fleshed out. Overall though the game was very westernized taking out elements that western players didn't really understand and adding elements CapJap thought westerners would relate to more. Basically magic type stuff and fancy skills.

@ Kankan:

The claw was never really good and should never have been needed in the first place. IMO, it was only used because of poor button configuration. The current layout and the assistance of the touch screen since 3U has made play more smooth and a lot more quick.

I switched back to adept dual blades after all, long sword is too slow for my taste...

Other than that, I've been stuck doing all the low level gathering quests, I think I've developed some kind of quest-list OCD...

@Bored, I want to suggest you use your prowlers for the gathering and transportation quests. They have no stamina use, have infinite pickaxes and bugnets, can do subteranean travel in order to avoid pesky big monsters that could be in an area and early on, their armor will have much better defense than your main guy (which is hilarious on it own).

In other notes: i finished all the 1-3 star solo quests, and I am not disappointed at all to have finished them. I have many arts that make playing a breeze. The hunters Oasis is the absolute best skill to have. I pop it, and fight the monster in its vecinity, and I can be completely wreckless! I can see how a gunner can use this to great advantage. Just crouching fire the heck out of the monsters without fear. 15 points of health every 3 seconds for 90 seconds? YES PLEASE! Soo many food combinations and 2 loving pigs, 1 cute baby sheep and a slew of animals that love me on sight, lol.

Yeah I guess that's not bad advice :<
Can't complain much about the gathering quests either I've banked quite a lot of money and mats.

I tried taking down the Dinovaldo that was in the Abyssal mushroom quest. Of course I didnt have enough damage so I ran out of time. It was fun trying though...

I hate the lack of story in this newest game. Tri/3U/4U did so much for bringing a little bit of flavor and spice in making a story to go along with it. The other villages while nice nostalgia, literally offer no reason to go there that I've seen so far. It's more like an afterthought feature instead of a story.

Also I hate the new monster "cutscenes" it's like 2-3 seconds and the monsters name...WHICH WE ALREADY KNEW WHEN ACCEPTING THE QUEST. Where's the creativity gone. Did literally the entire budget go into the weapon styles and that was it?

Gameplay is fine, mechanics are great, hitboxes are great, music is great, graphics are okay for 3ds, monsters are great..but the game feels gutted in too many areas. Also lack of customization for primary / 1st cat like we had in 4U so we can have our ideal Prowler in terms of looks and features is disappointing.

^ I actually really like the Monster Cut scenes. It's a really good introduction for many people and gives you a chance to admire the monster. Also... You can get some nice pictures of them to post.

So after my second night of playing with friends, when we are actually advancing a little bit in the offline game, the monsters felt like... like beating down a puppy. ... They were being held down, and smacked BAD.

Then we smiled and carved them up... is it bad that I am starting to feel sorry for these beasties that have no idea the veterans that are hunting them? They see weak armor and weapons and figure they can get a few good bites in... then we rip those teeth out and make a necklace...

Most gaming forums have bottomed out pretty much. Most activity for games are on Facebook, Youtube and reddit as you mentioned. I can tell you with here and with Minegarde a lot of the ones who were promoting the MH sites in the past are no longer doing so. Still playing just not promoting the sites.

PS: While I usually don't allow other sites to be promoted I would like to point out the Official Monster Hunter Web site from Capcom.

I'm really impressed with the new one they have for Generations.

Big up all mah adept dual-ists

Just unlocked HR3 offline, haven't touched online and I aint gonna until I actually know what the new monsters do. Although I should probably take the approach I went for back in Tri and do them both equally, that seemed to be a pretty good time.

Little lost with the new upgrade system, I find it way more difficult to see which weapon lines I should be going for, but I guess I'll get used to it eventually.

I just got to Village 6. I systematically finished every offline quest up to the end of Village 5.

I'm rocking the Gammoth set, including both the armor and Longsword.

I'm currently hunting Steve for a Steve Impaler, to upgrade my longsword. I tried trapping the first one, but as soon as he fell into the Shock Trap, my cat killed it...
