Yeah I know it's a 7 year old game but I've never played it. And honestly I didn't even know it was a survival(ish) game until I looked up information on it after the Switch version was announced.

Minecraft Switch edition releases tomorrow and I'm tempted to get it. I really like world building games and have enjoyed the few survival game I have played.

My question is if it will be worth getting? It's $29.99usd and comes with all the wii-u dlc but more on the level of the PS4/XB1 versions. 1080p/720p 60fps.

It's not the most expensive game and I feel it worth playing at least once. although It's better with friends I feel.

Not sure what 'friends' are but thanks. I already have about that much saved on the eshop so maybe I will give it a try.

I personally find the PC version to be better, due to the lack of DLC and the ability to customise your game and mod it as you wish (the modding scene for Minecraft is pretty big).

Any examples? Again, I've looked up some things about it but never actually played it.

Minecraft is a super low render of LandMark (Previously Everquest Next). The concepts are exactly the same, but the funding was way worse on minecraft, and the hype was way too big on Landmark.

I was one of those few who put up money in the promise of Landmark, and I am one of those who spent countless hours finding a perfect spot to build my vision.

I loved it,

I then tried Minecraft, and the art style just did not appeal to me at all at that point. Its like, why even drink dirty water once you have a source of pure?

My opinion of course.

Well, for a start, you can create and upload your own skin for your character (or one that others have created) for free, rather than selecting from purchased skin packs that you get from the newer console versions.

You can also pick from any of the MANY texture packs wait, they're called resource packs now (because they can, if the creator wants, change sounds, music, shapes and bounding boxes now rather than just textures), that people from all over the world have created for free (or you can create your own if you really want to), rather than selecting from purchased resource packs that you get from the newer console versions.

As well as that, you can download any world/map or object that others have created, or use any seed for world/map generation you like, so you can play in whatever world you chose, be it a vanilla near-infinite (59999968x59999968 blocks due to an overflow error and general bugginess a few thousand blocks further out (R.I.P Far Lands)) world/map, or someone else's handcrafted masterpiece (spoiler alert - they're not usually hand-crafted anymore, there are many tools for doing such large-scale terraforming now, though many smaller details are still done by hand), rather than generating the much smaller vanilla worlds/maps (862x862 up to 5120x5120 blocks depending on the console) or selecting from purchased map packs that you get from the newer console versions.

Also, due to the PC version of Minecraft being the original version of it, the PC version gets any updates to the game (of which there have been many) before any other version. It is also the most purchased version of Minecraft so more people are likely to have it, though considering that Minecraft is the second best selling game of all time (Tetris will never be beaten) that shouldn't really be a problem. Although, I don't think the console versions have access to Minecraft's console commands, and therefore the command blocks that can automatically run said commands if given a redstone signal.

More interestingly, while console version only lets you host or play small-scale relatively local multiplayer, the PC version allows you to play on actual servers containing as many people as that specific server can handle (or more if the host didn't test how many the server they built/rented/bought it can feasibly hold first and overestimated) or, if you have a few friends over, you can host/join a Minecraft LAN party.
I should point out however that the client and server need to be running the same or similar versions of Minecraft to be able to connect, luckily the Minecraft launcher allows you to pick what version (out of the majority of the previous versions) of Minecraft you want to run. It also allows you to create various profiles that can save to different sub-folders (or not) that you can customise individually.
Also minigame servers have become more popular in recent years, so as a general rule of thumb: If it can hold many thousands of players, it's probably a minigame server.

Finally, PC Minecraft allows you to mod your game to your game as you wish with mods created by various authors, or if you can't be asked with that you could use one of various modpacks, or go one step further and use one of the few custom launchers (such as the Curse Launcher (formerly Feed The Beast) or the Technic Launcher) which allow you to pick whatever modpack you want from their selection and install it for you (in it's own subfolder system so you can have multiple modpacks that you play with (my personal favourite currently being the Direwolf20 pack))

TL;DR:
PC Minecraft is much more customisable and has no paid DLC, has vastly superior multiplayer capabilities and much larger worlds, but is still based on the initial java-based versions Notch himself wrote, therefore lacks some of the polish the console versions have and lacks a real tutorial, though there are many Youtube playthroughs and an entire very detailed wiki (with a tutorial section) that can teach you instead (also the achievement system works as a sort of very rough guide).

Bought it for The Switch. It actually looks a lot better than I thought it would and comes with quite a bit extra. Starting to build shelter...
