PostSubject: What are the best GS skills after Sharpness+1 and Crit Draw?   Sun Aug 01, 2010 9:06 am

I've been looking at skills, armor combinations and such, and I know Sharpness+1 is the best attack increasing skill for GSer, and crit draw is also said to be one of the best... But what other skills should a GSer have, or at least which are good?

I've looked at Attack Up (L) and I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. I also doubt elemental increasing skills would be worth it on a Great Sword... So which skills do you think are priority? And also, do you think Attack Up (L) is worth it or not?

Thanks ^_^

attack up large is very nice also consider getting focus for faster charge, very nice with crit draw.

i believe the best damage output combo for greatsword is still attack up L, Sharpness +1, crit draw although i agree that its quite awhile before vangis armor becomes available to make it easy to get all 3 on the same set.

Focus:the charge will take less time=more times u'll hit monsters openings and if u trap/paralize/ko a monster u'll get more lv3 charge hits=more damage

in fact i was tryin to make the most damaging set for gs,that would be:
Focus
Sharpness+1
Critical Eye+3

Dunno if that's possible.....but it would reach GS AWESOMENESS

crit eye +3 is far less usefull then using crit draw properly, hit and run with crit draw = a massive crit everytime as aposed to slightly increasing your crit chance.

The only thing is, with an
Attack Up (L), Sharpness +1, Crit Draw
armor set, then I either need a very rare talisman or a weapon with more than 1 slot (meaning I couldn't use Anguish (P)). The talisman is something like Crit Draw +7 with 2 slots, which is 1% chance for the talisman, then 1/14 chance(I think) for the skill to be crit draw. =/ Unless anyone can make an easier set that other people/I haven't managed yet?

Closest thing I have is a crit draw +7 attack +3 1 slot talisman, which can -barely- get you attack L and crit draw with a 1 slot weapon on the Vangis set.

Oh yeah, that'd work too ^_^ But you'd have to keep the Raise Hunger skill, which could be a problem I guess :S Unless I spent ages farming for the talisman, but it'd take a very long time unless I got lucky >_<

that is obvious Smile
I was thinking a set for trap<paralize<ko situations where u critical draw will only be the first hit , what about all the charges after?yeah sure u could say atk up L is better but 25 % dmg 1/3 isn't all that bad either

btw:i love and use gs (oh and i have that crt. draw charm too)

thinking atk up isnt worth it!?!?!!? omg!?

atk up is a great skill for any weapon. Especially for bigger weapons, GS being the top of them all.

A good MH saying to follow is "When in doubt, get Atk Up!" you really cant go wrong with atk up lol

second after atk up is focus, helps get in more of the GS power swings.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned earplugs yet. Free full charge whenever a monster roars = win.

EDIT: Critical eye sucks. For all classes - but for GS's moreso, since you make a lot of draw attacks and crit draw trumps it.

OK, It's agreed that Crit Draw, ATK(L), and Sharp +1 are the fundamental Skills for a GS'er (Currently what I am about to pursue). Through posting and reading I've found the best ways to get these are through a Hybrid Vangis set:

Vangis Helm, Vangis Mail, Vangis Greaves, Helios Coil+, Vangis Greaves, Crit+7/2 Slot Tali.
This set will possibly give all the skills listed above with the proper gemming, and will rid of Hunger Up, or whatever it's called. I've read there are a few different variations on this set with the sacrifice of ATK(L).

In my xp, ATK(L) rocks! Gives roughly 100 points to raw ATK. This is the way I will go.

I have a hybrid Vangis set at the house (I'm at the Hellhole currently) that is prob one of the best combos I've seen, that I printed off of the Armor Gen. I'll post it tomorow if you'd like.

The set I'm currently using has Crit Draw, Punish Draw, and Def(M). I'm liking it, but truth be told, I miss my ATK(L). But the through the roof Def makes up for it.....I guess.

Ok today did some test and did find out that....critical eye isn't worth it , firstly because u can't make a decent set with it (tried to include atk up L or M) and secondly and that was obvious is the fact that the monster isn't trapped<paralized<ko'ed all the time during a fight.
Still i don't find the ideal Jho armor (Sharpness+1 , Atk up (L) , Crtital Draw , almost forgot Autotracker) the best GS set in the game bcuz of this one: Sharpness+1 , Earplugs , Focus and Critical Draw(got it and i assure that focus repays fully for that missing atk up L ).
I find the second set more flexible and u can lv3 charge some openings that without focus u won't able to get (like barioth those 2-3 fast jumps he stays there for some hits but not always for a lv3 charge AND u could be hit in that time or miss comletely the attack) , on otherhand 1 lv3 charge with Jho set hurts A LOT and could get easily monster staggering for another lv3 hit.
Personally the choice is situational and depends on the monster i will face....but the question now is focus or atk up L?

I would actually get focus and attack up (L) without crit draw over having crit draw and only one of the other two; but that's likely more play style preference.
