Okay so this is something I usually do when I join a new forum just because there is a perception that most gamers are blokes and I just like testing that out.

Well, I'm a male, but when I play games, I tend to use female avatars. o.o I have no idea why.

Because females get all the attention at development time. Face it, gamer nerds are gamer nerds for a reason, and developers must be the biggest nerds of them all. We need some gay developers so the men look like something we'd consider an awesome warrior type. >3

Last time i checked I was female... Just because there are lots of male gamers / designers doesn't mean that it's 100% that way.

I'm also male; this seems like it might be a trend, at least with this forum. I know more than a couple of girl gamers who don't really fit the "power user" description that we might fit into, but there are a couple thousand players online at any given moment on the US servers so I think it's fair to say that our little community might not be an accurate cross section of the entirety :tongue:

I think it would be interesting if psychologists or socialogists worked for game companies to bring more females into male dominated game worlds. This could be done to increase target market, but would be a challenge to do without making either group upset.

Girls like nest building or procedural play with less need for overt or primal conflict instead opting for care taking roles and people-focused stories. Guys like goal oriented or high primal conflict play with some wolf pack ranking element-- i.e. my armor is better than yours. Guys like game settings that promote conflict with little social details. Girls like guys. Guys like girls. Generalizations.

Making a single game for both is a tall order, but could be done. Monster Hunter goes in this direction enough already to be given great credit for cross gender appeal; however, improvements (if that were a goal) could be made.

I think a new class of weapons and armor for support roles would help. The bowgunner doesn't appeal to girls as much as say a witch doctor type or alchemist role(armor /weopons) would. More nest building/furniture elements would help along with more character customization. Ability to select a village mate, puzzle min-games or a variety of pets would be helpful as well, but these risk getting too far from the kill or be killed MH spirit.

According to the cultural referance the are considered hetrosexual but with traits of the other sex. A good example of this is "Omnisexuals" Jack Harkness from the Dr. Who/TorchWood series is a good example.

Well, omnisexuals isn't just a love (of sex) with male or female, it's and actual/genuine love and caring regardless of gender, race, species and so on...
