Hey all.

I've been randomly adding armour spheres to my armor and have been looking for information about this already on the internet but haven't had any luck.
When I look on the MH wiki it lists armor defence stats like this:

20~30~78 (for example this is the lagiacrus armor stats)

What does that mean? and how many lvls do armor upgrades actually have? I got my jhen moran armor and just took it to lvl 4, how many more can I expect above that?

I noticed that some(or all armors) the + versions have more skill points in them. If you can upgrade say, rathian to rathian+ gear, will the skill points change to the set skill points that making rathian+ itself?

ah, though i noticed a few that the + versions got more bad skills that i really would rather not have, so thats another case to keep the original but upgrade it to max.

I upgrade every set of armor I get to level 4, but I wouldn't recommend going past that unless you have a long-term plan for it (or have more resources than you know what to do with :P )

Money isn't so scarce tht you should hesitate to go that far, and even if you do run out you can recoup it all in a quest or two if you manage to collect the full reward.

ya all in all the extra slots for helms pwn A** cant say much bout other pieces i know he rathian chest had more base stats i donno where fire resist comes into this if it evens out or it makes you spend more time customizing your gems to much up for the missing skills they lack it seems the rathian + armor has more to earplug and less fire resist but im to lazy to talli the total set bonuses from each and compair....im sure someone will tho ;p have fun

but all in all looks like the + sets are better i agree with renwold bout the not upping over lvl 5

I'm nearly HR 30 online so i'll be opening up some of the better equipment soon anyway, then i'll be able to get the plus armour and MAX that out.

I just can't believe with all the information out there on the internet that I couldn't find a guide to armour sphere's. I know the concept is seemingly simple and probably should be common sense but you can get weapon upgrade tree's in a snap so thanks for everyone's answers so far.

If anyone can point me in the direction of some kind of guide please feel free to.

Also I notice some of the regular armors and "+" armors go to the same defence level. Seems strange to change armor for slots.

It's really up to you if you like the + armors or the regular armors better. As long as you can upgrade the regular armors, then I guess it'll be fine with that. The + armors are just harder to obtain because of the materials needed to craft them. Regular armors need low rank quest items to upgrade to the "blue rarity" that also gives the same defense as the + armors. Also, some of the effects are different from regular to + armors. If you like the regular armors better, stick with it. If you like the + armors better, stick with it. (Although getting materials such as Rubies are pretty rare which are needed for some + armors)

Had to jump in here, because for all the newbs... they might not realize - you will not be able to get the materials to forge the + sets of armor until you open up the High Rank online quests... that means you will need to be a HR31 (online - your offline HR does NOT carry over) or higher!

Good luck getting to HR31 without a pretty decent (upgraded) set of low rank armor. You'd pretty much have to never get hit. If this is you, more power to you, and in which case I want you in my party (so PM me with your gamer tag! ).

People get hit in this game? I thought the object was to not get hit? Maybe i am doing it wrong...

i wonder if anyone online even knows how to, or even knows that they can, upgrade their armor.


someone with the same armor as mine took much more damage than me when charged by rathalos.
