| Notes for Hunting Great Jaggi in Tri By hunter Kai
General Notes: • The Great Jaggi has the greatest range of most large monsters in the 2 areas it appears, the Sandy Plains, and Deserted Isle. • Highest Possible weapons for people hunting GJ for the first time include: o GS: Iron Path, Buster Sword; Bone Path, Jawblade o SnS:Iron Path, Soldiers Dagger; Bone Path,Ludroth Nail o Lance: Iron Path, Thane Lance; Bone Path, Bone Lance + o Hammer: Iron Path, War Hammer; Bone Path, Ludroth Bone Mace o Bowgun: Light, Medium, or Heavy Bowgun sets, or mixed versions of the three • The Great Jaggi can be hunted easily for the first time by any weapon. Bowgun is highly recommended though, due to Fire Shots. • Recovers stamina by eating from bone piles, but if the option is available, will go for meat traps instead. • has a move set composed entirely of Jaggi and Jaggia attacks, making him very predictable. • Loses stamina fairly quickly, only goes into rage mode if it takes large amounts of damage, and exits rage fairly quickly. • GJ’s tail cannot be severed, and the only breakable part is his frill. • Will attack other large monsters in the area. • Very susceptible to dung bombs • Has 2 roars. The one that sounds like a howler monkey summons 2 small jaggi, the other does nothing. • Shinies dropped are always wyvern tears • Kings frills are obtained by breaking the frill • GJ is weakest to Fire, but that element can’t be obtained until after Qurupeco (Unless you’re a gunner) Deserted Isle: • Freely moves between areas 1-7 (minus 4), but spends most of its time in either area 7 or 5. • Do not, I repeat, do NOT FOR THE SWEET LOVE OF GOD, attempt to take on GJ while he is in area 6. Even experienced hunters have problems there due to constant Jaggia hip checks from offscreen and the sheer amount of smaller jaggi. Only go to area six if GJ is asleep there. • If there’s no meat around, GJ will go to area 6 and eat from bone piles. A monster so badass, he gets his calcium straight from the bones of other monsters XD. • It is not recommended that you hunt GJ freely in Moga Woods during Jaggi mating season, when all of central becomes area 6, and area 6 becomes a pit of near instant death for new hunters. Only advisable time to do this is after acquiring a weapon past Royal Ludroth. • Has 5 areas where limping away produces a shiny. 3 5 6 7 and 2. Sandy Plains: • Capable of visiting areas 1-8, but rarely visits 8. (I’ve only seen him during the Quruepeco quest start) • Nest is located in area 5, which has significantly less Jaggi, but more Jaggia. • Easier to fight, due to the fact by the time Sandy Plains is unlocked, you have better weapons, and wider areas to fight him in. • If Qurupeco appears, as he is wont to do, then sheathe your weapon and stand so that the GJ is between you and him. The peco fire clap deals a sufficient amount of fire damage to him. More Info: The Great Jaggi is the easiest monster to fight in the game aside from its minions or Aptonoth. With a predictable moveset, a weakness to sharp objects of any kind, and a kind (almost trusting) nature towards the meat kindly set out by the hunter before the fight began make it an evolutionary wonder. Despite being incredibly frail, the Great Jaggi somehow managed to survive and breed on the Deserted Island and in the even more inhospitable Sandy Plains. Weapons produced from GJ farming tend to be fairly good, and lead usually into even more powerful weapons (Chieftan Blade->Lagia Sword, Commanders Dagger->Hypnos Knife, etc.). The real fun though comes from the armor set, which gives Attack up S, Gourmand, and Halve Stun. With the right gems, it can be gemmed up to Attack up L (At least 1 assault jewel, and an attack jewel in whatever weapon you use.), and you’ll find plenty of charms in later quests that grant you points in the gluttony skill, enough to get you the scavenger skill usually. (Scavenger makes it so that all consumables have a chance at raising stamina. Items that already do so gain a chance for double effectiveness.) After you unlock the Flooded Forest (Especially for Iron Path people who need Pelagicite), you can make better weapons that will make the Great Jaggi almost as easy as a little Jaggi. You should also be able to craft fire element weapons by this point, so making the Jaggi armor set should be easy. I would also recommend the Jaggi Armor set for anyone who fights with a SnS, as the attack boost makes them even more lethal with their increased attack speed, but all other weapons share the attack boost too.
Find this helpful? I plan on taking down as many notes as possible and posting them (In order of appearance) to the forums.

| Well, to the people commenting on the futility of this guide, please keep in mind it's for beginners. Hence the title, the list of most powerful weapons available at the time, and tidbits of info that people with a little bit of research can consider common knowledge. I'd also like to point out that I did GJ partly because it felt awkward having done my first one on Rathalos, so I decided to organize the large monsters in order of appearance.

| Just a note about this that I read: | Quote: | | • Has 2 roars. The one that sounds like a howler monkey summons 2 small jaggi, the other does nothing. |
The second roar is actually a command to the Jaggi and Jaggia in the area. You'll notice that as soon as he makes this second type of roar, all of his minions will immediately zero in on your position and attempt to attack you in unison for ~15-20 seconds.

| @Deanstroyer, Gotcha. The last comment wasn't directed at you directly, but I appreciate and understand your viewpoints XD
@AveZak, lol, I never noticed that before. Whenever I hunt GJ, the minions usually home in on me anyways, so it never made any difference to me anyways. Thanks for sharing that correction XD |
