| This is more geared towards the people whose first Monster Hunter game is Tri (like me).
So how was your first Great Jaggi fight? The most notable thing about this game to me is the striking difference between fighting small monsters and fighting large monsters - were you surprised at how different the game changed when you fought your first Great Jaggi, and was it easy for you or not?
I wasn't ready for my Great Jaggi fight at all. I just brought a few herbs, and I had my Light Bowgun with no ammo at all (at the time I was cheap and wouldn't waste bowgun ammo unless I really needed to, so I usually stuck with Normal S Lv1). My armour wasn't that good at all either, and in any case using bowgun so early in the game was a big mistake.
Anyway I began fighting him and was amazed by how... merciless he was. I mean the normal jaggi were easy because they'd hit you once or twice and then spend a good amount of time staring at you as if waiting for you to hit them, but the Great Jaggi rarely paused.
I quickly ran out of herbs and First Aid Meds, so I literally had to go and look for blue mushrooms, herbs and honey around Moga Woods. I even went and fished for Sushifish and constantly had to go to base camp to sleep. It didn't help at all that I was only using Normal S Lv1 too. 49 minutes in I almost gave up because yet again I was out of meds and had already fainted twice, but pushed on a bit more and finally managed to kill it with seconds to spare. I felt so badass :P.
Yeah I guess it is embarrassing to take 49 minutes to kill a Great Jaggi when now I can kill it in less than 10 seconds, but OH WELL.
Does anyone else have any stories to tell about their first Great Jaggi? |

| I was using the iron GS that you're given at the start of the game (having already decided the SnS was unmanly). No upgrades or anything, and I spent my time walking after it with the GS unsheathed and spamming the roundslash since I couldn't hit it with a charge attack. I wasn't close to failing, but it still took me an embarassingly long amount of time (half an hour or so), and I think I carted once.
Then about a month ago I started a new account for the hell of it, and took it down in about 2 minutes with a jawblade. How things change... |

| i went for it with hunter knife+, no armor. I was striken by the increase in difficulty from previous quests. Took me something like 30minutes, and auto-guard saved my ass more than once

| IIRC, it wasn't too bad, even though Tri was my first MH. I had no 'real' problems in taking it down, unless you count taking around 25 minutes or so to kill it for the first time a bit of a problem , :P. I too, like Dainbramage, used the Iron GS. I think I also walked around with it unsheathed as well...
(I can't remember my tactics with the GS back then on my first Great Jaggi, I definitely know I wasn't using charges. I may have been doing a tactic somewhat like hit and run, can't remember for sure though :O).

| Wow its been awhile, all I remember is that I used an SNS that I had to sharpen like 15 times and I'm pretty sure I para'ed him with tinged meat :P . You know it could be amnesia from all the hip checks I received from him, but I still forget to bring meats when I hunt the Great Jaggi . |

| damn this is going back... xD As I recall: 1. HOLY CRAP *shit bricks* 2. Die while attempting to hit it (I had Iron Lance, I bought it straight away xD) 3. Slowly get used to his movements and attacks 4. Die once more *45 minutes later* 5. Blocking like crazy, almost out of potions aaaand... IT'S DOWN!! Eat that G.Jaggi! That's my rendition of a fiery, intense battle. XD |

| I used the Iron GS+ and Hunter armour on my first Jaggi, which was a bad move on my part considering even now, I'm still pretty n00by when it comes to GS's. At first I was all "come at me, bro" and then I was all "meh" for a little while. While I knew to sheath my weapon when not attacking, I had no idea the GS could do charged attacks, and so I stuck to comboing downslashes and roundslashes. I also didn't know how to make potions, so I stuck to herbs and First-aid schtuff and eventually ran out. At that point, I became all "Buggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbugger". Sadly, I died, but I recovered from death using a miraculous feature known as "respawning". At that point, I snuck into his den (Srsly, I was sneaking. I thought running might've waken him up) and gave him a quick downslash to wake him up. It was only a matter of chaining to a roundslash to finish him off. I think I ended up taking around 25 minutes. On a slightly interesting note, I started a GS only file recently so I could get better at GSing and took him down within 10 minutes. |

| I don't quite remember... But I do recall being terrified and getting thrown around like a rag doll. Then, I started to get the hang of it. Was using sns, bone blade probably. Most likely chainmail or hunter's armour.... But yeah. As with everyone else, I took forever.
Funny that he used to be scary (mh noob)... now he's a wuss. Heck, when I was still unsure of the controls and game mechanics, the jaggi scared me! |

| My very first Great Jaggi was on-line in a group, so I didn't really do much besides die.
If we're talking single-player, though, it was fun. I died a couple times solo, since I was still wearing basic leather armor for whatever reason, but I got him eventually. A fully charged stun smash followed by the three-hit combo that ends with the home run swing is what I used to finally get 'im. Nothing beats taking down your first big monster with a wind-up smash that knocks them into the air. =) |

| After graduating from my fear of the deadly hordes of ludroths, I was assigned the quest to take down what was known as a Great Jaggi. Sporting chainmail and a boneblade I set out to Moga Woods. I slashed and slashed at it, my blade going straight through it's head multiple times. However, this beast proved to have more vitality than it's hardy Jaggia cousins. The result was me returning to the village battered, bruised and empty handed. |

| The very first time I fought the Great Jaggi was when my cousin and I had first gotten Tri. We pretty much jumped online to try. My cousin had spent a lot of time farming up monster fluid 'cos he wanted the switch axe really badly. (Ironically he turned out to become a good lancer instead later on). When we got online, we died within 15 minutes. We eventually tried again and the same thing happened.
Then.... we went offline, and discovered that would've been a much better idea to start there first, and we eventually went back online with more powerful weapons, and a better grasp of its moves. We killed it with just the two of us afterwards. |

| This is what I went through with my first GJ: 1. Run up to face. 2. Smash face with hammer. 3. Dodge. Repeated steps 1-3 until I completed the quest. And there you have it |
