What weapon do you guys think would be best for taking down the Lao Shan Lung? Doesn't have to be a kill; just repel (low rank Guild one). I was thinking of using either the Black Hammer or the Great Sword, but I want to make sure that what I'm thinking of is a good choice, before I actually leave to go fight it.

tl;dr: What's a good weapon for low rank Lao?

Problem with a Dragon LS is the only one he might be able to get is Black Scythe (Dragonsword requires Lao mats) I would say go with your either your highest raw GS or the hammer with either the highest raw or with a decent Dragon or fire attribute.

@Kofius - most certainly not! This thread was unanswered, you answered it.

I have two options for raw weapons; either the Anvil Hammer, or the Tactical Blade (both of which I do not mind using). I'm assuming that either one of those would be fine?

Edit: I plan to use my Rathalos Soul Armor (Gemmed for Attack Up Large); would that be alright or do I want to go with a more evasive playstyle?

lao is ridiculousluy easy to avoid. Just throw everything at him, and if you have trouble getting the repel then make siure to bring the LBB+ bomb mats and the other lbb mat so you can bomb the **** outta him. Black weapons don't really cut it with him so definitley go raw. the AUL is definitley gonna be useful. just now where he might be able to hurt you and be carful of those areas/moves. Good luck.

Lol bumping my own topic

So I've got a related question (related in how the monsters behave, mind you) about Shen Gaoren. I've managed to repel him plenty of times, but I never seem to be able to get the kill on him. I've used bombs and cannon and ballista and the nator and whatnot (lots of ands). I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong. Do I NEED HR equips to kill a low rank Shen Gaoren? If not, then what do you guys recommend using to kill him. I've tried gunning, but I don't know what gun I want to use (assuming Pierce S will be the best for him, obvoiusly).

So, anyone have any ideas? I've given up on Melee'ing him because I know that I won't get ANYWHERE with that.

Well, for Shen Gaoren, I have killed him with a Bow, and an LS.(This is low rank, mind you). All I can say is keep trying your tactic, but try equipping stronger/sharper weapons, and you'll most likely get him down. Especially with your AUL. Hope This helps!

P.S. He's weakest to fire and dragon.
