| Well, since you use bombs, then I won't need to tell you that traps are important. Trap + Large Barrel Bomb (x2) + Small Barrel Bomb = Big happy face on your hunter! XD
If you didn't know, Bounce Bombs work awesome underwater, like your own little rocket!
What weapon do you use? I've always liked the bowgun since Pierce shots are great and the range helps a lot, but it's really up to you. If it helps, watch some youtube vids of it. |

| Gobul.... Bad memories of Gobul I have.... Next to Diablos I hate Gobul the most....
Anyways if you're using a GS (great sword) try and not attack from in front of him cos you're very susceptible to his attacks (especially when he tries to suck you in and eat you). I find it's easier to hit him from above but you have to be quick and accurate for that to work. Bring a Shock Trap with you to use underwater and a Pitfall to use on land whenever he gets on land. Oh you can fish him out of the water and onto the land by using a frog, which can be found in area 7 I think of the flooded forest but I'm not 100% sure. Fighting him on land though is much easier than in water, but most of the battle will inevitably be in water so try practising your water skills first.
EDIT: Sword and Shield (SnS) I'm not too sure about how best to go with it. Sorry. |

| I've been reading lately that an SnS users best friend is elemental damage so maybe try to find one that hits him where it hurts. Like stated above bring both traps and I would also bring mats for extra shock traps because you'll most likely face him in the water for the larger portion of the fight. Set the shock trap to "speed combos" so you can push it out faster if you have to while he's next to you. (I love the speed combo option)
I'm usually an SA user and I've got to say, contrary to most complaints, I found this guy extremely easy.. Annoying with the constant going underground bit but other than that, he was cake to me... Maybe cuz I find fighting in water easier than on land. And no, I don't use Olympic swimmer skills or other water type food buffs (if there are any) but you might want to check out the food buffs anyway for a little extra OOMPH!! |

You canīt "spam" frogs on him to get him on land if that's what you mean, you can only use it once if he's hiding in the area with half land/half water and hasn't seen you
I dont know about the traps, not a big fan of them :P |

| Get a peco chopper. It has fire and he's weak to it. You should be able to beat gobul in about 30-40 minutes with just the weapon underwater. Pulling him out of the water probably decreases this time down to about 20-25 minutes.
To get the Qurupeco Chopper, just get a Bone Tomahawk (you should be able to build one from scratch) and then it's the next upgrade for it. |

| I dunno if this'll help or anything, but i've usually kept my blade sheathed until I know I have a chance to get a few good hits. Mostly for the "superman" jump you have when you're in this mode. Use it during his attempt to use the flash stun, and chances are it'll miss. Timing is a very effective weapon if you use it right! |

| I use SnS quite....well all the time. Biggest thing I do is always keep your weapon out. If you want to do the jumping attack to cover distance, you can do it by pushing X + A at the same time (on classic controller), and the ability to block at a moments notice is nicer than a sprint/dodge.
When approaching him on land, come at him at an angle (like most monsters) to force him to turn towards you, then attack. If you attack at his tail back far enough, he will do a tail swipe which will paralyze you, giving him a free attack. Around his back legs is my favorite spot, as this will allow you to not get hit by the tail swipe, or the ground spiked barrel roll he does if you roll forward, which is given away by him puffing his spikes out before the roll. Besides that, he does a few charge/leap moves which are pretty straight forward (PUN INTENDED LOL), just keep circling him and getting back in there with a jumping attack chained with a few swipes of the sword, and roll and get right back in there.
In the water, he does a lot more spiked roll moves which involve spinning in place, spinning and shooting forward, and I believe he still does the sideways barrel roll. Nothing too much has changed from the land tactics, except for when he enrages (swells up and has spikes shown all the time), you can attack his stomach to bypass the toughened armor he has with the spikes out.
A good elemental sword and some learning of moves and he should be easy as anything. Wish you the best of luck! |
