Hmmm... So, nintendo released the 3DS at what many considered a high price in February. Five months later, after Sony announced their new handheld and even cut a good bit of it's power to get it to the same price as the 3DS and after Sony added some very similar 3DS features to the Vita, Nintendo suddenly to everyones surprise drops the price. By a lot and introduces new features. The ability to download NES and GBA games to the 3DS with the nes games also having enhanced features. So I wonder? Did nintendo have this planned all along? If so. That was a great move on nintendos part. And if it wasn't planed it's still a good idea.

Also the games will be available for download on September 1st. The GBA games will only be available for those how bought the 3DS before august 12th.

Go on 3DS eshop before 11:59 EST and you get enrolled in 3DS embassador. It gives you access to 10 free NES titles on September 1st and 10 more GBA games at the end of 2011. Apperently the 10 free GBA games will not be available to anyone else.

Not true, the ambassadors just get them sooner and for free.

Even so...

YES!!

Of course it is. This is Nintendo we're talking about.

Roik. They did announce that several of the NES and most of the GBA games would be exclusive to the ambassadors.

No, the 3DS has sold below expectations and has seen several of its upcoming games canceled. They cut the price so soon to try and save the system, they then decided to give away the download games to alleviate the anger of those who already bought it for its full price.

This was not planned, Nintendo has seen there profits and stock drop because of the 3DSes poor performance so far and the drop in Wii sales as many wait for its replacement.

As for the GBA games it just states they currently don't have plans to release them to the public at large. It makes no sense not to release them, I think it just means they aren't in the current schedule of released games. It also pretty much proves the idea that Nintendo is intentionally staggering download content releases instead of releasing lots at once.

^ The 3DWS has recieved no more cancled games than any other new system.. look at the PS3, wii and 360 when they first came out. They just get reported more on the 3DS. Also as far as the sales go... That is a bit suspicious... It has sold over 800,000 units in the US in less then 6 months and 5,000,000 units worldwide in 6 months... That is actually the average for all systems except for the regular DS which was much higher. You also add in the fact that Nintendo really has not lost anything over all by having the higher price but will gain quite a bit by lowering it... And they are not lowering it slightly like many would have exspected they are lowering it by a lot.... And they thing that makes me curious the most... The games for the ones who already own a 3DS are already codded given enhanced features and are ready to go.... That to me means they have been planning on it for a while...

I just read the BulbaNews article before coming here. Tad disappointed that it's restricted to VC, but still,
WOOT

Not virtual conaol. Which is on the wii. Just on the 3DS available from the eshop.

Known NES games for 3DS (these will later be available to everyone to buy)

Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™

Known GBA games for the 3DS (nintendo stated that these will be for ambassadors only and will not be available to the general public)

Yoshi's Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™

So we are still waiting to find out the other 5 NES games and the other 5 GBA games. Which games are you hoping for? K wouldn't mind super Mario bros 3 and some of the GBA rpg games.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm definitely getting a 3ds in next month. I can do 170 for a handheld. I know it's loaded with tons of fun and still possibly worth the 250, I was even gonna get one soon since I've been saving up, but why pay more when I can play mh3 until the price drops in 2 weeks? >.<

NES games are alittle too retro and said games are already available for me in quite a few different ways. GBA games are also available in a few ways, but it is cool that they bring back gba games to the next gen handheld after it seemed like gba was exterminated. The ambassadors thing is pretty cool as long as they keep it exclusive, but it's not that big of a deal. And I wouldn't be surprised if they a)allow more people to become members, b)just release it to the general public cuz wtf >.>, or c)it'll become some kind of nintendo wifi+, where you do some kind of membership payment to get exclusive content, any of those situations sometime in the future.

I am excited about 4swords, though, and very glad that it's not ambassador exclusive. I'll encourage everyone to get a 3ds now because that's one of those games we haven't played together. I would've paid for it if it wasn't free. I look forward to amazing mirror because that was fun to play solo. Multiplayer = fun multiplier. And if these can be played via wifi, I'll be there. :D

And MH is not something I look forward to on the 3ds. A "T" game does not belong on a console that's mostly played by 8 yo children playing COD while they wait for the doctor, and occasionally their parents. Except ssb. But isn't that E?

You do know that a majority of 3DS players are 18-35 and most of the games out on the 3Ds are for older teens?

Should those adults who play the 3DS not be allowed to have adult or teen games. I'm not attacking you or anything but it's sad that people don't realize the majority of mature players that own a 3DS and other nintendo systems.
I really want Kirby

Couldn't it be that Nintendo either saw the sales figures as well below what they'd hoped, and planned a kind of fail-safe (the free games we're seeing now) or maybe the enhanced games were Nintendo's plan for the 3DS anyway, and many more like them will be coming our way in the future?

Your right. It's just...idk. Strangely enough, I do look forward to mgs3d. idk. I just feel like nintendo is that children's console that we get anyway cuz we grew up playing nintendo(you gotta say it with that weird accent. I'm sure we've all heard it). And it is the preferred console/handheld for parents to buy for their kids. So at least it's what the majority of the kids would be having. Especially after the price drop.

Unfortunately that is a sad missconception lots of people have about all videogames. Regardless of a system having mature games or family games it is the responsability of the person buying the game to make sure it is appropriate for the person it is being bought for and other players who are mature adults should not be punished for peoples missconceptions and inability to read ratings. Nintendo has the right to have "good" games just like Sony or Microsoft but it seems like every time Nintendo gets a good game that isn't mario or zelda.. people complain about it and say, "it should have been on the PS3/360/comador64....
dcj91x
2 more GBA games added to the list... Super mario advanced 4: SuperMario Bother 3 and Kirby and the Magic Mirror.
