If Monster Hunter 3G is never actually localized I was considering importing. Has anyone else ever imported a Japanese Monster Hunter game? What's it like trying to navigate menus? Are there fan translations or patches available?

Also, would a JAP game be able to play with a PAL or NTSC game if the game was localized and I wanted to play with a friend? Or could the save file be somehow converted to another region?

After some time, someone will make a translation, but it should not be impossible to do without. Socialdissonance did a P3rd walkthrough without translation, and i heard he didn't have any mayor problems when he found out what was what.

If someone makes that translation, it might take some jailbreaking to get it worken, cannot say for sure about that.

And now on to the big problem: If you wanna play japanese Tri G, you'll need a japanese 3DS. Which means you won't be able to play with anyone using western region 3DS's. Worse yet, you'll have to import every 3DS game from Japan.....

So yeah, can't say it's a good idea. P3rd was more viable, as Sony doesn't know geography.

And this is why people pirate games.

Not too sure about connecting with different versions of the game or transferring data, but as long as you've played a Monster Hunter game before, finding your way around is pretty simple.

A lot of the stuff can be figured out by the icons, and learning to match the kanji with the item's effects, uses and method of being obtained. Menus are pretty much the same story, just choosing the options, seeing where you end up and remembering where it takes you happens pretty easily. The only problem you might run into is armour and skills. I don't know if there are plans on this happening for Tri G, but for P3rd there was stuff like MHF3.com and Athena's A.S.S. which helped out a lot.

I'd say wait a while before deciding to import it. Give Capcom a bit more time to announce localisation before deciding to buy a whole new console for just one game.

Well, first off, it's entirely possible to navigate blind. I did so in P3rd, Of course, providing, you do import, you will also need to import a Japanese 3DS. Seeing as Nintendo consoles cannot actually play imported games.

Well, I know on other games, MK7, RE:Merchs and so on even though they are from different regions I can still play with people who have EU, Japan, and AUS 3DS. But like was stated to play games from Japan you will need a 3DS from Japan. So if you plan on buying more than MH3G it is probably worth it for you as there will be many games that will not come out in the US over time but if you are only wanting one game than the cost is probably not worth the effort.

However if you do plan on playing several Japan inport games than I would sugest getting one of the Special edition 3DS' from japan as well. There are several out there. I will not mention any others however than the MH3G one. If you get that and a copy of the 3G imported though you need to do it VERY soon as they will be sold out and no longer available shortly. (the special 3DS' will be sold out)

Also a word of note: you can still set the system language to english on the 3DS you import but there will be a few things that stay in the native language. You will also be able to street pass people as normal and bassically do everything else as normal. the only difference is that the E-Shop and games will all have to connect to the JP server and anly work with the JP software. any other hardware will work the same however.

Unless you "intrude" your 3DS to disable region locking, you can't play the imported game without an imported 3DS.

Thank for the replies. Weighing up my inability to read Japanese and the costs of having to import a 3DS, the game and possibly the circle pad attachment I'll probably wait a little longer for a localization announcement.

I've also realized that there's not much point to importing if I have no one to play with.
