PROLOGUE
Fire. Fire everywhere. The village was burning to the ground. Hayato ran to the armoury, where a dozen other men were fitting on their armour and weapons. He grabbed his sword and shield, a family heirloom, passed down from father to son for generations. Faith and Hope, they were called. Said to be forged from the metal of a meteorite that had crashed centuries ago. He had just finished strapping his shield to his arm when he heard a loud roar. All the men in the armoury froze. Suddenly, it was as if the world ignited. The explosion knocked Hayato to the ground. Dazed, he looked around as the other men of the village attempted to fight the monster that had landed in the midst of the smoke. It swung it's tail throwing several men into what was left of the wall. It then turned as one man lifted his great sword. It opened it's great maw and bit the man in half. The great sword never reached it's target. Three more men charged at it. It sprayed fiery death to all in front of it. The unfortunate men screamed as they were incinerated in seconds. Two men were left other than Hayato. They stood on top of a piece of rubble firing on the beast with their bowguns. It turned towards them and blasted the rubble from underneath them. One of them fell onto a spear left behind by one of the other soldiers, impaling him, and the other was crushed by more rubble. The beast raised it's head and let out a mighty roar that shook the ground. Hayato, barely a few yards away, covered his ears. The sound was deafening. The monster then took off, it's wings clearing away the smoke. Hayato could now see the beast clearly. It looked like a Rathalos, but it's scales were jet black, with a faint fiery tinge.. It flew away, towards the Volcano. Hayato stood up slowly, looking around at the destroyed village, realising that he had just discovered a new sub-species of Rathalos.

CHAPTER ONE
Erin and Kao looked across the landscape. The mesa containing the nest lay in front of them. In between them and the nest, however, was a large plain. They would be completely exposed while running across. They nodded at each other.
"You ready, brother?"
"I'm ready."
Kao took his bowgun off his back and loaded it.
"I'll cover you from up here." he said.
Erin jumped down from the small cliff they were standing on and gently jogged across the plain. Once he had made it into the nest he signalled to Kao with his hand. He disappeared into the nest.
Kao was waiting for ages. He got sleepier and sleepier. His eyes closing slowly. No. He had to stay awake. His brother was depending on him. He gave up. Five minutes won't hurt.
"KAO!" Erin screamed at the top of his voice. He had in his hands a wyvern egg. That of a Rathalos, to be precise. It was so big that he had to forsake his weapon and use both hands to carry it. He heard a roar from inside the mesa.
"Oh my- KAO! WAKE UP! IT'S COMING!" he shouted.
The mesa seemed to explode as the Rathalos flew out straight through the wall. Erin ran as fast as he could which, due to the egg, was very slow. He was half way across the field when he was knocked off his feet. The egg dropped to the ground and shattered. Erin unsheathed his sword. A great sword made out of bone. Not very sharp, but it did the job. The Rathalos stood over him, as if mocking him. It opened it's mouth, and Erin could see the flames building up in the back of it's throat. Then it's head swung to the side. Blood spurted out of a shell wound. Finally Kao had woken. Erin used the confusion to get up and attack with his own weapon. He swung it round so that it hit the monster on the side of it's jaw. It recoiled back and Erin swung again, hitting it's other side. He did not let up, swinging again and again, until finally the Rathalos fell dead. Erin stormed back to the cliff on which Kao was stationed.
He saw not Kao with a bowgun, but another man, standing over the still asleep Kao. He held Kao's gun, a musket made in the village of Pokke, in the Furahiya Mountains. The old man kicked Kao awake. He got up with a start.
"Where is it? Where is the..." he looked around him, his face went red.
"Oh."

CHAPTER TWO
The old man looked scornfully at Kao. In fact, Erin did as well. Kao looked down, embarrassed. Finally the old man broke the tension.
"That was sloppy!" he shouted. Kao winced.
"I-I-I am sorry." Kao said, slowly.
"And so you should be!" the old man replied. He looked like he was about to slap Kao.
Erin stepped forwards before anything else happened.
"Who are you and why are you here?" he said. The old man took a moment.
"I was passing through on the way to Yukumo Village. I heard the screaming and saw the Rathalos so I thought I would help." he said. Erin knew there was something the old man wasn't telling him.
"That's where we are headed when we finish this contract. It seems like we've failed, so perhaps we could go back to Yukumo together." he said.
The old man nodded.
"Ok, then I can lecture this young scoundrel-" nudging Kao, "on the importance of staying awake during a contract!"
They were almost at Yukumo. Erin had carved himself some Rathalos scales and had made a tasset. He had also upgraded his bone great sword with Rathalos shell. In front of him, the old man was busy shouting at Kao, who looked like a naughty child, while Erin made adjustments to his newly made armour. Erin had just finished when he bumped into the old man and Kao, who had stopped and were staring blankly. Erin looked up. There was smoke on the horizon.

CHAPTER THREE
The three hunters stared in awe at the sight. The blacksmith shop was burning, and the general store had been completely demolished. The monster, what looked like a black Rathalos, and seemed to emit black smoke, was perched on top of the gathering hall roof blasting fire on the village below. Three hunters were trying to kill it. Two of them using swords and the other firing at it with a bow. The beast raised it's head and one of the hunters jumped to the side as it unleashed flames on the unlucky two left behind. The surviving hunter jumped up onto the door frame and began to make her way up the roof towards the Rathalos. She jumped up onto it's neck and prepared to drive her sword through it's neck when it noticed and shook it's head, throwing her off. She tumbled off the roof, smashing onto the ground.
Erin decided it was time for them to intervene. He ran forwards, leaping over the rubble. The Rathalos still hadn't realised that it's attacker was off and was still shaking it's head. Erin reached the hunter and helped her up. The Rathalos saw them and prepared to jump down onto them. Just as it's feet left the roof it was blasted away by Kao's bowgun. The old man ran over to Erin and the hunter, pointing at the Rathalos, who was now scrambling around in the gathering hall's pool.
"I'll look after the girl, you fight the monster!" he shouted. Erin did as he was told and jumped into the pool. His armour weighed him down as he waded towards the monster, still splashing around trying to get up. Kao stood at the edge of the pool, shooting at it with his bowgun. Erin had finally reached it when it swung it's tail, knocking him into the water. His head smashed against the rocks at the edge and he was knocked senseless. He couldn't summon the energy to move. He could only watch as the Rathalos got to it's feet and prepared to charge. He thought he heard a voice, low and booming.
"Prepare to die!" it said. Was it the Rathalos? But how could that be? Could this new species of Rathalos talk? It didn't matter. He was going to die anyway. As his vision started to blur and his mind slip into unconsiousness a bright light seemed to descend from above.

CHAPTER FOUR
Erin was flying. He felt completely weightless as he travelled through the air. He reached out with his hands and touched the clouds. He was flying to the Furahiya Mountains. He soared over Pokke and then he noticed something wrong. The colours were off. The snow seemed too white, and the blue of the sky seemed artificial. Then he heard a voice, quiet at first.
"Wake up." Then louder.
"Wake up!"
Erin opened his eyes and saw three faces staring down at him. Kao, the old man and the girl from Yukumo.
"Don't worry, you are safe now." it was the old man. Erin looked around slowly.
"Where am I?" he asked, little more than a whisper.
The old man helped him up from the bed he was lying on. He led Erin, stumbling, out onto a balcony overlooking the building they were in. Down below them people were training. They wore gleaming white platemail over a chainmail coat. They used a long katana made of the same white metal as the armour. He looked back at the old man, then looked at the sword and shield on his back. It was the same metal.
"This" the old man said, lifting up his shield. "is Faith. And this" he drew his sword. "is Hope, made from metal obtained from a meteorite that landed here many centuries ago, as all of our weapons and armour are. I am Hayato, Master of the Order of the Spirit Rathalos. Twenty years ago, my village was attacked by a powerful monster. I helped many of the villagers escape. One of those who escaped was my wife, and in her arms were two baby boys." Erin's eyes widened.
"You mean..."
"Yes, son. I am your father. In the rubble and debris of the village I was found by the Light Rathalos. It spoke to me, told me to search for the meteorite that my sword and shield were made from. After three years of searching, I found it, and founded the Order of the Spirit Rathalos, with it's fortress built over the crash site of the meteorite. For years we waited for the Dark Rathalos to return. Then, I heard news of you two. I searched for another year chasing rumours of the two brothers in hunting. I finally found you trying to steal an egg from a Rathalos nest, which I still haven't fully forgiven this young man-" looking at Kao, who looked down and shuffled his feet. "for. At Yukumo, that was the Dark Rathalos. When you were knocked unconscious the Light Rathalos fought back the Dark Rathalos before it could kill you, but we still only managed to fight it off, not destroy it. After the battle the Light Rathalos brought us here, to the Fortress of the Spirit Rathalos. Here we tried to wake you up, but to no avail, the most we could do was keep you alive. A month we waited for you to wake up. And now, finally, you have woken." Erin looked at Hayato quizzically, digesting everything he had just heard.
"What are we going to do now?" he asked.
Hayato smiled. "We are going to train you."

CHAPTER FIVE
"Stab! Upslash! Downslash! Back! Stab! Upslash! Downslash! Back!" This is the shouting that repeated most of the afternoon. Erin didn't like this katana. Too light, no blocking. He preferred the brute force of a great sword. Kao seemed to be getting it though.
"Problem Erin?" Hayato asked.
"Yes. Surely it would be better to land one heavy strike with a nice strong great sword than with this katana. As the saying goes, it is better to live one day as a Rathalos than one hundred days as an Aptonoth." Erin replied.
Hayato looked at him and smiled. "But what happens when that one Rathalos is vulnerable after killing one of the hundred Aptonoth? It is better to land a thousand light blows and not be hit than to land one heavy blow but get hit afterwards. Now then, put your elbow behind the stab to get more power into it."
"But didn't you just say that it is better to land many light blows?" Erin replied, with a triumphant grin on his face.
Hayato chuckled to himself. "You got me there son." He walked off laughing.

CHAPTER SIX
It had been twelve weeks since Erin, Kao and the Yukumo girl had begun training. So far they had mastered all the basic moves. Simple downslashes, upslashes, stabs, even the spirit combo. Now this was their final lesson before they were inducted into the Order as true Knights of the Spirit Rathalos. There was just one more technique to be learnt to pass the test. It took most students years to reach this stage, but Hayato had put them on an accelerated programme. They just had to learn the secret technique taught to Hayato by the Light Rathalos, and taught by him to all other members of the Order of the Spirit Rathalos. Hayato had called for Erin, Kao and the Yukumo girl to join him in the training yard at midnight. The air itself was dead quiet. Hayato paced back and forth while the three were lined up in front of him, in their initiate's armour, a chainmail coat made of Star Steel, which was the metal that all the Order's weapons and armour are made from.
"It is time to learn our most trusted technique. We call it the Heavenly Blade. It allows you to make your katana a force that no man, not even the finest of Loc Lac's blacksmiths, can make with his own hands. It allows your sword to become power in it's rawest form. Your sword becomes light. Follow me."
Hayato led them round the back of the fortress to a gate. It was made of a rock that was as white as polished marble yet as rough as a Lao Shan Lung's back. There seemed to be some intricate design on the door. A series of circles radiating outwards from what looked like a Rathalos' shell which was indented. Erin and Kao had enjoyed speculating on where this gate led to. Now they would know. Hayato took something from his gauntlet and inserted it into the shell-shaped hole. Next he turned it ninety degrees counter-clockwise, one hundred and eighty degrees clockwise and another ninety degrees counter clockwise so that it was in the same position as it started. Hayato then took the object out, clipped it back onto his gauntlet and stood back as the gate opened. Behind it were a set of steps leading downwards. They set off following these stairs.
After about fifteen minutes walking they finally stopped. Another door, similar to the first one, lay in front of them. Hayato used the key in his gauntlet again and as the door slid open a bright light came from inside, slowly descending as the door descended. Hayato turned to the three.
"This-" he said "-is the heart of our temple."

why are chapters a paragraph

chapˇter/ˈCHaptər/
Noun:
A main division of a book, typically with a number or title.

I suggest not posting a passage until you encompass an entire set of events that can be called a "chapter", rather than posting a paragraph at a time and calling them chapters...

If this is a "short story", (less than 15 pages), those normally don't have chapters. If it is truly a standard-length story, chapters can't be a paragraph...you will have like 500 at the end <_<

At least you have initiative to continue writing the story even though not many people have responded. That's pretty awesome.

Sorry, Vortiene, I will make the chapters longer, starting with this one.
CHAPTER SEVEN
Impressive was an understatement. The cavern itself, roughly a mile in diameter and equally as tall, was awe-inspiring enough, not to mention the object in the middle. It was a gigantic sphere rock with veins of Star Steel ore running along the surface. Miners standing on a catwalk were hacking away at the rock with pickaxes. Other men were loading the ore into carts and wheeling it off into doors dotting the walls of the cavern. By one of these doors stood Hayato, Erin, Kao and the Yukumo girl. Hayato looked at the three young hunters.
"Quite a sight, eh?" he said. "Stop gawping. One of our initiates went mad staring at it for too long. Goes around Pokke calling himself the 'esteemed instructor' now."
Kao looked at Hayato. "But...what is it?" he said.
"This-" Hayato said, folding his arms and smiling proudly, "-is the Star Steel meteorite. It crashed here centuries ago. You ever heard of the Night of Blinding Fire?" the young hunters shook their heads. "They say the flash was brighter than a million Gypceros' and the roar was louder than a million Tigrex's." Suddenly, a tremor shook the cavern. A rock fell from the ceiling and crashed into the meteorite, knocking it off the supports. The giant lump of rock crashed down to the cavern floor, destroying a catwalk and killing three of the miners. A Knight, clad in full armour and out of breath, ran down the stairs shouting.
"Master Hayato! The Dark Rathalos! He's attacking!"
The simple fact that the knight had said "he" and not "it" made Erin realise the truth. This wasn't just any monster. It was a force beyond any hunter. The corridor behind the knight started to crack and crumble. Hayato's face went from one of shock to one of fear. "The building's falling down on top of us! Move!"
All five of them ran up the stairs as chunks of the ceiling fell all around them. They reached the exit.
Fire. Fire everywhere. The whole temple was burning to the ground.
In the middle of the courtyard a dozen Knights were slashing and swiping at what appeared to be a shadow. It turned to face the group, specifically at Hayato.
It's voice boomed. "It is time!"
Hayato nodded, unsheathing his sword. "It is time!"
He ran at the Dark Rathalos as it charged at him. Just as he was about to reach it Hayato jumped to the side, leapt up onto the neck of the monster and started swinging at it's neck. Kao ran around it and jumped on it's tail and started trying to cut off the tail. Erin unsheathed his sword but didn't attack. The Yukumo girl was shouting at him, but all he heard was muffled noise. He felt something inside him. Hayato stopped attacking and looked at him.
"He feels it." he whispered. The Dark Rathalos took this opportunity and threw Hayato into the ruins, where a pillar fell on him. Erin could not even see himself. All he saw was his sword, and his target. The chaos around him was non-existant. He ran forwards and his sword began to glow. The Heavenly Blade. The Rathalos' face turned to one of fear as the sword came crashing down on it's wing. It was thrown off it's feet and fell off the wall and down the mountain. Erin came back to reality and the sword stopped glowing. He ran to the edge of the wall and was thrown back as the Dark Rathalos flew up in front of him. It's wing was crippled and it wobbled as it flew away in fear for it's life. Erin remembered about his father. He ran over to the ruins. He lifted a pillar and some stones off him and supported his head.
"Father..." he said.
Hayato put his hand on Erin's arm. "Son...You are the...Master...now..."
A tear came from Erin's eye. Kao came and joined him. Kao fell to his knees and weeped.
"Father, no." Kao sobbed.
Hayato moved his arm just enough to push Hope towards Erin. "Take Faith and Hope...It is your weapon now...It is your Heritage..."
And with these words Hayato, founder of the Order of the Spirit Rathalos, faded from life. Erin and Kao both knelt by him crying. The Yukumo girl put her hand on Erin's left shoulder.
"Pia. My name is Pia." she said. "I am sorry."
Next the Knight who had warned them about the attack came and put his hand on Erin's right shoulder.
"Master." he said. The half a dozen other survivors who were able to walk knelt before him.
"Master." They all chanted in unison.
Erin stood up and turned to face Kao. He put his hand on Kao's shoulder.
"We will give him a funeral tomorrow. Now, we have to tend to the wounded and salvage what we can. Brother, this is our heritage."

CHAPTER EIGHT
It was sunrise the next day. The remainder of the Order were kneeling in two lines forming a corridor leading to the funeral pyre. Kao and Pia were kneeling closest to the pyre. Erin walked down this corridor with a lit torch. He now had Faith and Hope strapped to his back and the Master's armour, which was just like the chain and platemail of the ordinary knights but with horns attached to the shoulders and helmet and the key gauntlet on his left hand. Each knight stood up in turn as he passed them. He reached the pyre and lowered the torch so that it touched the wood. It was just a single spark at first, which spread to a small flame which ignited the entire pyre with all the bodies of yesterday's casualties laid out. Erin turned to address the knights.
"Brothers and sisters! We have suffered terribly! The Dark Rathalos has done much damage to us! But we will recover! And we will avenge all of these-" He gestured to the bodies on the pyre. "-poor souls! We will hunt down and kill the Dark Rathalos!" And with this he raised his arm with his hand curled into a fist. A cheer was raised from the knights assembled before him. He turned to face Kao.
"I will go to the Great Mountain to consult the Light Rathalos. I will leave at once. From then until my return, my responsibilities as Master fall to you." Kao nodded.
Erin set off north at once.
Erin was about halfway up the Great Mountain. Night was falling and a blizzard had set in. He had to stop and set up camp. He found a small cave where he would be sheltered from the blizzard. He lit a fire, set up a bedroll and lay down.
Fire. Fire everywhere. Erin did not know where he was but it was burning to the ground. He saw a dark shape land in front of him. Two red circles, like burning rubies, were set into the sides. It opened it's mouth and an inferno flew towards him.
He was back in the cave in the mountains. He looked around. Nothing was burning except the small fire he had lit. He closed his eyes again.
Fire. Fire everywhere. Erin saw his father in front of him, fighting against the Dark Rathalos while he did nothing. He could have saved him. But something happened to him. In that instant he had unlocked that greatest secret of the Order. But it came at a sacrifice. Hayato was thrown into a pillar and it fell on top of him, crushing him.
Erin heard a roar. He jumped up, grabbed Hope and ran out of the cave to face whatever made that roar. He waited. There was another roar, but this time it wasn't a monster. He turned to see a cascade of snow crashing down towards him. It hit him like a Bulldrome, he scrambled for something to hold on to but he found nothing. He could only watch as the edge of the cliff came closer and closer. He was swept off the edge and he fell. He hit the ground with a thud and blacked out.
He opened his eyes to a sheet of white. He moved his arms in a frenzy, desperate to reach the surface. Finally he came out of the blanket of snow. He searched around in the snow with his hands. He was panicking. After about a minute of searching his hand settled around the familiar handle of Hope. Faith was still strapped onto his back. He looked up at the cliff. He had fallen all the way back down the mountain. And it was morning again. The blizzard was still raging near the top of the mountain. It would be a hard climb, but one he would have to undertake. He had come this far and lost all of his supplies. He had no choice but to press on.
He was tired, his legs were giving out and his face felt like it had been frozen. Why hadn't he bought a fur coat in Pokke? It was too late now. Then he heard a noise. Slowly and steadily he unsheathed Hope and looked around. It hurt but he had to be cautious. He heard the noise again. It sounded like a Pelagus. He turned to see about a dozen Blangos looking down at him. Suddenly the rush of adrenaline warmed him up. He jumped to the side as one of the Blangos jumped at him. He jumped onto it's back and drove Hope through it's head. He took it out again and jumped again, this time kicking one of the monsters in the face before landing on top of another. He stabbed one in the torso as it reached for him and then turned to backfist another. He used the momentum to slash another one of them and then stabbed the one who was recovering from his kick. That was all of them. He then heard a much louder roar. Turning to face it he saw a Blangonga. It looked like a giant compared to the ones he had just faced. His adrenaline rush had ended and he had used up all his energy on that fight. He wouldn't last against the Blangonga. It started to charge. This was it. It was barely a few feet away. Erin braced himself for the end.
It didn't come. He opened his eyes. The Blangonga had been picked up and thrown by something. Limping, it let out one more roar and ran off, a few other Blangos following it. Erin looked around for the thing that had saved him. Then he heard a voice, smooth and calming.
"Do not fear. You are safe, for I am with you."
Erin turned to see a bright white Rathalos. He instinctively grabbed his sword, but then realised. This was the Light Rathalos.
"I have been watching you, Erin. I was there at Yukumo. I carried you to the Temple. And now I have come to help you fight my brother, the Dark Rathalos."
"The Dark Rathalos is your brother?" Erin asked.
"We came into existance at the same time, at the dawn of time. So we regard each other as brothers. Come. I must show you something." it said.
Erin was then swept up in the Light Rathalos' claws and carried up to the top of the mountain. At the summit was a single slab of stone, engraved with words. The Light Rathalos put him down.
"This-" it said. "-is the Spirit Prophecy."

CHAPTER NINE
Erin looked at these words inscribed in stone set before him. He turned to the Light Rathalos, who was standing behind him.
"What is this 'swarm' of which it speaks?" he said. The Light Rathalos looked at him gravely.
"This has happened before. Once every five thousand one hundred and twenty five years we awaken, gather our forces and fight. Every time my brother has won. Every time the world is destroyed. Every time it rebuilds itself, only to be destroyed again, and so the cycle begins anew." It said. Erin looked shocked and angry.
"Are we all just pieces on a board? Are we all going to be destroyed, all because of some sibling rivalry?" He shouted. He turned away from the wall and walked down from the summit. The Light Rathalos looked taken aback.
"Sibling rivalry? Is that what you think this is? I fight to save the world I love, but each time it is destroyed, and I wait for five thousand one hundred and twenty five years, for I know that it will only be destroyed again. If I cannot tell you, I will show you." With that the Light Rathalos let out a roar that threw Erin to the ground. He fainted.
He saw a tower. It was made of some kind of clear material, with an infrastructure of metal. They were all around him. They seemed to make up a city. In the street below strange carts which were led on their own drove past, carrying people inside. There were poles with light at the top but no flame. People walked past in strange outfits, crossing the cart paths when a pole lit up with a picture of a green man. Some of them were ranting and holding signs which read:
"21/12/2012 THE END IS NIGH"
Above him a strange flying metal wyvern flew over the city. Suddenly all the lights faded and the metal wyvern fell. It crashed into one of the buildings and exploded in fire. The people around him screamed. The self-leading carts swerved and crashed as the people inside them panicked. People started running. A dark cloud swept over the sky and Erin saw it.
The Dark Rathalos.
It shot a fireball at one of the towers, which exploded, the top half falling into the street and crushing the people below. Erin tried to run, but he couldn't. He couldn't move from that spot. Then he saw that the cloud was not a cloud but a swarm of vespoid-like creatures, but black and red eyed, just like the Dark Rathalos. They descended upon the helpless people, who were ripped apart and thrown all over the place. Suddenly the creatures were torn apart by rapid-fire bowgun fire. Erin turned around to see a line of people in strange black and white armour shooting with bowguns which fitted into a hand. The Dark Rathalos landed and launched a fireball at the centre of the line, which sent all of them flying. Next a flying almost spherical object with a spinning blade on top started shooting at the Dark Rathalos with the fastest firing bowguns Erin had ever seen. The Dark Rathalos jumped up, grabbed onto it with it's feet and threw it into one of the buildings still standing. It then turned around to face something behind Erin. Erin turned around and saw the Light Rathalos, who was in an attack position, ready to charge. The Dark Rathalos spoke.
"Here we are again, brother. Same world, different time. Don't you ever learn? I always win." it said, with an ominous tone. The Light Rathalos responded in kind.
"This time and it's people are more advanced than anyone before them. They will outmatch you, I'm sure."
The Dark Rathalos replied to this. "They believe that their world has existed for four and a half billion years. They are primitive and stupid." he said.
"I made them believe that to protect them from the truth." the Light Rathalos said.
"And what will you do now that the truth is out?" the Dark Rathalos said.
The Light Rathalos tensed, ready for combat. "I will fight!" With these words it flew towards the Dark Rathalos, who flew at it also. They met in midair and locked claws, snapping at each other's necks with their mouths. The Dark Rathalos got his jaw around the Light Rathalos' neck and started shaking it. With the Light Rathalos failing to keep flying and both of them locking claws, they fell. The Light Rathalos blew a fireball into the Dark Rathalos's face at point blank range. The Dark Rathalos reeled back and let go of the other's claws. Back in full control and the Light Rathalos still falling, the Dark Rathalos flew up and charged down into the Light Rathalos, smashing it into the ground. It started to glow and it looked up. It saw itself glowing and it's face turned to one of fright. The Dark Rathalos smiled.
"I win again, brother."
Then the vision ended.

CHAPTER TEN
The rubble of the temple had been cleared away and reconstruction had started. At the moment the knights had to sleep in tents outside the ruins. They were focusing on getting the sleeping quarters done so they could all get a good nights sleep. They were having to import wood from Pokke, meaning that caravans were coming to and fro all the time.
Kao was worried. Erin hadn't returned for five days. The journey was only supposed to take two. Kao noticed that one of the caravans coming up the mountain path had Guild escorts. This road wasn't that dangerous was it? One of the lookouts ran up to Kao.
"There is an emissary from the Guild." he said. At that moment the gates were opened and a group of about a dozen Guild Knights armed with lances marched through in lines. The lined up, forming a corridor, and faced towards each other as an emissary, a tall wyverian dressed in opulent blue and orange robes, walked towards Kao. Kao noticed the Guild Knights make a circle around the courtyard where everyone was gathered.
"By order of the Hunter's Guild of Minegarde, your order are to disband immediately." he said. Kao clenched his fists.
"Why should we do that?" he asked, stepping forwards to meet eyes with the emissary, who was not fazed.
"It is by order of the Guild that the recent attack on Yukumo is blamed on the Order of the Spirit Rathalos." he replied, without showing any emotion. Kao was furious.
"What!? You would accuse us of the actions of a monster?" At this point all of the Guild Knights got out their lances. All of the Spirit Rathalos Knights unsheathed their katanas.
Pia stood still, every muscle in her body tensed. She noticed that one of the Guild Knights had his visor down over his face. The Spirit Rathalos Knights had moved into a circle facing outwards inside the inwards-facing circle of Guild Knights. Kao and the Emissary were in the middle of both circles. Kao had his katana out and at the ready but the Emissary remained steadfast still.
"I must warn you that to oppose me is to oppose the Guild." the Emissary said.
Kao ignored him. "That is a risk we will take." he said.
The Emissary raised an eyebrow. "As you wish."
At that instant the Emissary leapt at Kao, drawing a dagger from each sleeve and made a swipe at Kao. Kao jumped back, but his arm was caught. The blade, tiny though it might be, had cut through the chainmail and into his skin.
The other Knights immediately started swinging and stabbing at each other. One of the Spirit Rathalos Knights fell immediately, impaled by one of the Guild lances. One of the Guild Knights was cut from shoulder to hip and then run through with a katana. Kao looked up to see the Emissary stab at him again. He jumped back, using his katana to parry the blow. Usually the long sword would be unable to block, but the size of the blades used by the Emissary made it parryable. He knocked one of the daggers away to the side. It slid along the floor.
Pia was up against the Knight with the visor. She was using dual Star Steel swords. She swung at him with both swords. He parried the blows with his shield and stabbed forwards with his lance. Pia pushed the lance to the side with one sword and stabbed at the Knight's head with the other. The sword stuck just above the forehead and Pia had to let go. She watched in horror as the Knight removed his helmet, with the sword embedded in it, revealing his burnt face. Pia recognised him.
"Zai?" she said. Zai was one of the hunters who were burnt by the Dark Rathalos in Yukumo. He was one of two twins, both had been at Yukumo. Pia had assumed they were dead.
"My brother died at Yukumo!" He shouted. "It is the Order's fault he is dead!"
"No, it's not our fault! The Guild has lied to you!" Pia yelled back at him. Around her more and more of the Knights from both sides were dying. "The Dark Rathalos is to blame! He attacked us as well! Who do you think caused this damage?" she gestured at the ruined temple. Zai looked around, then down, shamefully.
"They...lied...to me!" he muttered. He grabbed the sword embedded in his helmet.
Meanwhile Kai was on the floor, with the Emissary Assassin stood over him, with his dagger raised. Suddenly a sword, made of Star Steel exploded out through the Assassin's chest, just below the sternum. The Assassin let out a yell before falling backwards. Behind him stood a man in a Guild Knight's armour, but missing the helmet. His face was scorched. He held in his hand a Star Steel sword with the end covered in the blood of the Assassin. The other Guild Knights dropped their weapons and ran out the gates and down the mountain path. A few of the Spirit Rathalos Knights set off after them, but Kao gestured with his hand for them to stop.
"Let them go!" he shouted. He stood up painfully, only to fall over again. He yelled in agony. The Assassin coughed and spluttered.
"Poison...the blades are...poison." he muttered, then fell silent. At that moment Kao completely blacked out.
