Rathalos rubies!

I'm trying to get corpse blades and need a rathalos ruby, but so far it has eluded me... I've been farming the nekoht silver rathalos (blacksmith, slaying), but haven't gotten a single one.

Is there a way to up my chances? a different quest? capturing?

There are different statistics out there saying different things but I've not witnessed any proof of increased chance for rare items by capturing in MHFU. I would really suggest going with a cutting weapon to chop off the tail, as carves from the tail yield a chance of getting rubies as well, and if you have a felyne chef with Dismantle (lo,hi), try to go for that each time for a chance of an extra carve.
Also, if the quest takes too long and you feel like increasing the speed, do tail runs. Get the strongest cutting weapon you've got and chop off the tail, carve it and hope for a ruby. If you're unlucky, abandon and try again. It's not something I've ever tried personally as I prefer finnishing my quests, but a friend of mine used this tactic for several rare items successfully.

And since you're doing the Nekoth quest, if you're supersticious, try petting the pig in your room.

Judging by that (idk why i didn't check earlier...), my best chances would be to carve the tail (5%), break the head (4%) and capture (7%), and possibly a shiny drop (4%).

This is gonna take forever without blacksmith though...

the best way is to get one is either to:
1. silver rath as you posted yourself.
2. try the same with G-Rank normal Rathalos
3. do epic or event quests with rathalos (the Kut Ku, velocip, los one in highrank has a chance to get one as normal questreward not only as breaking reward)

Actually, i got one right after i posted the wiki link haha. might have been that crazy lucky cat kitchen skill... but yeah, carved right from the tail.

Then was too lazy to fight it with hidden saber so died 3 times :P

to be honest I find them pretty easy to get. especaly throug capturing silver los (most times the first one I do gives me one). but rathian rubies are a greater problem somehow. I needed 6 gold ians to get one.

6 gold ians... i fought like 30+ rathaloses and never got one til i carved from the tail :P

normal rathalos yeah. I had the same problem. but with the silver one I got 3 rubies out of maybe 5 kills/caps.
