If you don’t like the slow pace of GS, try a Switch Axe. It’s a little quicker but similar in style while in sword mode. It has no blocking but if you learn monsters queues you can roll out of a lot. GS is good too, I just got the Anchient Shard GS so Ill have to relearn that weapon myself.

The main thing with the GS is learning how to use and control it. It takes practice but is a very good strong weapon. One of my favorite attacks with the GS is to wait until the monster is sleeping and stand over him with a draw charge. At full charge I let go and get the x3 damage.

Something you can't really do with other weapons. Using the GS though you will need to learn good dodging moves.

Some skills that work well with the GS are:

Crit draw and punishing draw

there is no skill that I know of that makes it attack faster, there probably is none.

however, there is a fast charge ability that makes the charge sightly faster.
if that helps.

Fast charge seems to work better on Hammer/SA/LS the most. For the GS it is almost a waist of a skill due to it being such a slight increase in charge time.

You can always get the Crit Draw ability and be a Hit-and-run GS user.

crit draw and crit eye are your best bets, cause you can monsters continually stumble, which means continual damage and monster lockdown.

I honestly don't think there is a way to make Great Swords any faster, I mean, maybe if there's a speed jewel/decoration, but I have yet to see one.

GS have no way of being made to attack faster. Its fastest atk is the draw swing or that lil side whack after the initial attack.

But GS's are the best weapons to go with crit draw skills as well as the best weapon to use on a sleeping monster due to its charge attack being able to max at 110% dmg
