Try saying the title three times fast. More seriously this is a followup on my tallying from a year ago.  See this.  Well the job is now complete, or as complete as I want it to be.  Here are the results:

Assumptions

  • Zero regard for weather.
  • No Lucky Cat skills.
  • No Pig petting.
  • Using appropriate Tackle i.e. Fish Finders, Treasure Trackers, and Hunting Spears.
  • 1 Commodity = 1 Firefly at normal rate
  • Shining Starfish = 2 com., Armorfish Morsel = 5 com., Mystic Narwhal = 10 com.
  • Only Broken Shells, Black Pearls, Jumbo Pearls, Steel Eggs, Silver Eggs, Gold Eggs, Incomplete Crowns, and Crown Gemstones counted for zenny.
  • Incomplete Crowns and Crown Gemstones at 3000z each.
  • The minimum length of a Haul is .5 days. No matter what.

Value = # Caught / # Hauls / Days to Travel

Observations

  • I'm still of the opinion that Power Paddle and Perfect Paddle do not affect the frequencies of the catches.  Thus using a paddle is preferable to no Tackle at all.
  • In comparing the data the sweet spot where Paddles are better than Tackle are Power Paddle for level 1, and Perfect Paddle for level 2 & 3.  These can be further optimized by sending hauls out at night and maximizing good weather.  N.B. a haul will always take .5 days no matter what.
  • Tackle does improve the number of items back.  I haven't (and probably cannot) determine if it increases the quality of items.  (I suspect the rarity of an item can be used as a measure of quality).
  • Fishing is the most diverse of the hauls. Fishing 2 is for Barrel Bombs +.  Fishing 3 for commodity and zenny via Small Goldenfish and Glutton Tuna.
  • Fishing for ammo are is specific to the bullet.

    • Lvl 1 for Shot 3 (5z), Pierce 2 (20z), Pierce 3 (30z), Water (20z), Sleep 2, and Slicing (30z)
    • Lvl 2 for Crag 1-3 (40z), Cluster 3, Wyvernfire 3, and Sleep 2. (Pierce 1 & 2 are decent here too but faster from lvl 1.)
    • Lvl 3 for Crag 3. (Better than lvl 2 but trade all the bullets for commodity & zenny.)

  • The numbers for Bomb and Burst Arowana do not seems right. Experienced Gunners can probably confirm this.
  • Treasure is purely for zenny if you actually sell the items.
  • "Pearls" are used for brainstorming furniture pieces Online.
  • You have to go to both level 1 and 3 to make Dazzling Crowns.
  • I don't like the number for zenny sales in this sample.  In the previous one it was a nice linear progression.  Is till suspect that higher levels of treasure are better overall than lower ones.  The Pirate's Tomb being an exemption due to it being a 2 day trip.
  • Hunting doesn't give anything exclusive.  I suspect it is just for the convenience of the player. E.g. extra Flame Sacs are nice since Rathalos is always being captured for its plates.

This is so awesome I cannot do anything but bow my head low and say "thank you, sir".

A great analysis, this one. I was indeed asking myself why I have a huge stack of Crown Gemstones and barely any Incomplete Crowns. I did join the dots but was too lazy to check if I should stop sending the fleet to the Abyss.

Now, what's with the pig petting? Does it increase your chances of getting rare items or something? I've seen speculation about this but didn't get it.

In most Japanese games if there is a Luck status it is used somewhere in programming. Most often it affects things that involve chance such as item drops, critical hits, crafting rates, lottery results, spontaneous level ups, etc. As explained in Reward Information you can increase your Luck by the kitchen skills Lucky Cat, Ultra Lucky Cat, Crazy Lucky Cat; armor skills Good Luck, Great Luck (Fate); and successfully petting the pig in Moga Farm or your Loc Lac house. The maximum Luck you can have is 4.

During all my recording I had zero luck. I did this becuase while I can control Luck, I cannot control the weather affects such as Nice Waves, Fair Weather, Stormy feeling lucky?

I second this sentiment. The time and effort put into this project is certainly respectable in its own right, not to mention the sheer detail involved. It will certainly come in handy for anybody who plans to utilize the fishing fleet, be it casual excursions or for serious fish or treasure farming.

I thank you for this endeavor, and I am certain countless others will as well.

I'm confused by how low your numbers are for the pirate treasure zone...

99 items from 19 hauls WITH tackle??? sounds low.

Perhaps I'm just in denial because with your numbers, abyss completely stomps pirate even before you factor in a 2 day trip vs. a 3 day trip, and even if you account crown's gemstone as 1000z instead of 3000z.

Yes the number's are funky, but the further you go the less you get. For pure optimal Fishery Legendary Tides & Pirate's Tomb should be skipped. Not only do they have an extra .5 day for their level, they cannot have any weather boosts since they are the weather. I send them out anyways since it's a nice change to Scatterfish. (Also by chance I was able to get in another haul so the Pirate's Tomb numbers and summaries have been appropriately changed.)

Necrobump to update since I've played as a Bow Gunner and therefore have better understanding for bullet needs.

Moga Shallows (level 2) is still as awesome as ever. However Moga Coast (level 1) can be a big time & money saver. Pierce 2 & 3 are pricey (20z & 30z) but the Coast is the fastest fleet and a better rate for them than the Shallows.
