First topic message reminder :

It has come to my attention that we do not currently have a miscellaneous Xenoblade thread. THis is unacceptable, so here it is!

Currently, I'm at level 26, just entered satorl marshes. And, I do have one or two questions for those more versed in this game than I:

1. Dunban. Swap him into my main party? If yes, who should he replace?

2. Arts. Which ones are most worth the AP to level up? Bearing in mind I'm only level 26 right now...

I think that's it for now... if I come up with more, I'll post 'em.

If you look at my post in one of the earlier pages, this was the boss I was stuck on,
With gimpy unavoidable powerful AoE attacks. I think the best strategy is to just rush him since the battle ends when is hp gets low.

I had to go level in agniratha against the local Uniques, the quests there all give decent amounts of xp. Or build up the party gauge and keep it so when he visions laser bullet topple/daze him.

I remember I went to colony 9 and around near the top of the map there are a bunch of level 72 ish flamiis which I kept killing.

Thinking of using Melia, but she can't equip electric plus gems... is there any way to change that?

get a staff with free slot i guess?

also you should be able to initiate a subquest that should give you a staff with elec+50% (and other useful stuff) somewhere outside colony 6 now. not as good as a custom one but still pretty good.

also the base damage of the staff DOES affect melia's arts damage (only the weapon base damage, no strenght modifer or attack+ gems) i just thought i'd mention this.

Ok, for this battle, shulk >>>>> Melia. Almost managed to kill her with shulk.... ALMOST. I don't do any sort of decent damage, and she manages to wipe out my entire party by luring the brain-dead AI into pools of acid, and shulk alone's hopeless.

Should I ignore those minions? Focus solely on them while they're there? How do I kill them QUICKLY, as in 1 cyclone, not 4. How do I tell the AI to never, under ANY circumstances, EVER enter the acid pits?

I'm level 77 for crap sake... this should be EASY by now!

This was the first time I used Melia, since shulk did bugger all physically, I just toppled when possible and used bolt a lot, went down so easily...

Completed it yesterday, the NG+ weapon is a beast, not to mention it looks smexy.

For that boss USE Melia, SPAM Flare, for that sweet sweet AOE damage..

Against the elementals, Mind Blast is your best friend - catching all 4 in one is dead easy, and kills them (well, renders them impotent and they lose health constantly, and have about 1/20th left after a MB). If you can hit the boss, all the better, as MB seals her ability to summon more.

They can be obtained by defeating ignas in satorl marsh, I'm not sure if its specific to a type but it would seem like they all drop them.

So just chill around exile fortress.

Dragon king alcar.

...Y'know, I've just about had it with BS bosses. Higher level means I'm more powerful. It does NOT mean you can wipe me with spike damage, Purge doesn't last anywhere near long enough, on the rare occasions it actually hits the damn thing. And it's not at all helped by the fact that this dragon's smart... it seems to be attracted to Shulk, and ignores dunban wayyy too often.

Any tips?

Make sure Dunban has his aura that takes aggro from a teammate, and doesn't have his aggro removal one. Spam Shadow eyes whenever it's available. Link Dunban's Spike damage reduction skill to everyone if spike damage is pissing you off. Spike Defence gems are also handy.

I'm surprised I destroyed this boss easily, i sorta just tanked the spike as sharla out-healed it, I'm not sure if alcar has any sort of topple spike counter, if not, topple the hell out of him.

Try linking up Dunban's spike defence and add some gems, purge whenever possible, and use stream edge or auto attack to build up the talent gauge. If hp gets low step out for a bit and let sharla heal you, or use light heal (assuming sharla is on, if she isn't try having her there).

And keep shadow eye ready for whenever shulk catches aggro, alternatively, pimp out Dunban with some aggro up gems.

I feel bad asking for more help, but...

THe final boss. you'd think being level 82 is high enough... What do?

Oh, and there's a topple up gem that I want to put on dunban... he can't equip it. Why not? Shulk can, and he doesn't even HAVE any decent topple moves!

Level 82 will be fine, just remember to take out dem guardians when they spawn.

As for the topple gem, it's a weapon gem so can only be stuck in weapons, if that isn't the reason then i'm not too sure,

Monado Eater is obtained by completing the quest chain in frontier village given by Lupa on the archaeology level at 18:00+.

Armor is from the quest chain given by Elqua in the hidden village.

As for skill trees their obtained by completing quests from named npc's at high area affinity same with the 5th skill tree but from a different npc. The quest giver has to be spoken to with the persons skill tree that is obtained.

Make note that most of the skill trees and chain quests can only be gotten with affinity of around 4-5 stars.

Okay... I know 7 has a skill that makes double attacks crit, and one that heals on crits. Is that her 4th or 5th tree?

Also, for gem crafting, which characters are good to use for certain situations? Just so I know which affinities to raise...

For gem crafting I always liked Dunban because he raises qualitys so you can slap a 76% crystal in there and will likely have it end up as a gem which is great when you've got abput 5 crystals that nearly add up.

7th's 4 skill tree Rashness iirc is the one that gives healing crit, I'm not sure if that includes the double attack crit.

Well... how does gem crafting work, anyhow? I know that if you have a lot of qualities, go for gentle and medium flame to cylindrise and increase them, then once you've only got one, go for strong flames to get decent gems. Which character combos are best for that?

my personal team for gem creation:

7 - melia:

refine crystals into cylinders, 7 would always allow you at least 3 cylinders to be created, melia would raise every stat on the initial gem, this way you cna create (trying to keep yourself under 100) cylinders to use later with 90+ in the correct skill.

reyn - shulk:

using refined cylinders so the result will ONLY have 1 skill use reyn to spam high flame and hope shulk will get an enthusiasm boost so you can aim for 200% getting 2 maxed out gems at once.

ps: melia-7 work better if they have low affinity, too high and you'll break the 100% too easily. shulk-reyn like it maxed.

Heh... thanks, hic! Was a bit complicated to understand at first, but I got my head round it eventually.

but... now I need silver lexos hearts from valak mountain. Problem is, I've only ever found 2 sesna lexos, and they don't seem to drop them. Am I looking in the wrong place?

EDIT: found them, lol. Now I'm after double attack and haste gems. Where would I find level 4 or 5 crystals/cylinders that give those qualities? I know that deinos sauros give them, but I'm nowhere NEAR ready to fight them.

I'm not sure on the double attacks apart deinos sauros, but for V haste gems they can be farmed from the arel telethia in alcamoth i think.

They're level 86 ish iirc, maybe lower.

So, can anyone explain why exactly it is that fossil monkeys are so BS to get? It's one item. No non-game breaking item should require 17 hours of collecting blue orbs in makna forest, godamnit!

And DON'T say 'oh just raise affinity in frontier and trade', since quests there are surprisingly tough to come by. The only onethat isn't a generic monster/collecting/challenge quest needs even MORE searching for blue orbs in Makna. And no, I can't find any other quests.

Related: Those 'rebuild the capital' quests. Do they raise affinity for Eryth or Frontier?

I just randomly got 1 from the first collectible place in colony 6, I was like O,o.

If it's from a nopon in frontier then its middle bionis, if its from a high entia in eryth or related to alcamoth then its for upper bionis.
