Ukanlos Instakill?

Ok, so something happened today that I'm really confused about.

Me and my friends were fighting a Ukanlos together today, and about five minutes into the quest, he burrowed underground to do his fin drag attack.

But as he surfaced, he hit me and my friend, and killed us both instantly.

I was a gunner with 125 or so health and 381 defense, and my friend was a blademaster with 555 defense, and about the same health as me. We both had decent ice res (it wasn't a negative attribute).

So, any ideas what could have caused the Ukanlos to insta-kill us? I've thought a few of them, and I've never had it kill me in one shot before :/

Well, you gotta consider, Ukanlos does tend to OHKO a lot if you don't have 150 health, even with G rank defense. Very possible that it could've OHKO'd you. Maybe it was just a stroke of bad luck for your friend, but that attack could certainly one shot a gunner with 381 def. The damage from Ukanlos/Akantor surfacing is pretty high.

I considered that after making the topic, since I've never actually been hit by his surface itself before. I dunno about my friend, but he's infamous for having bad things happen to him, so I guess I can count it up to that :p

Well, he could have been hit with an armor debuff before and didn't realise it.
