I hope not. Those two universes don't seem compatible to me.

^Agreed a bit with Roik.
I'd rather have two seperate games, and a new Metroid sidescroller.
I think it'll be a good game if they do it right, but I'm not digging the first person view they're gonna use for the Metroid segments after the 3 prime games. They're phenomenal games, but we really do need a new sidescroller metroid.

As for the Star Fox bit, I don't see how the can mess it up, apart from story and 3rd person gameplay. In that video it's said that there will be 3rd person star fox gameplay, so they'd have to work on getting that right as well.

But again, I'd just rather have two seperate new games.

It better not be a fusion, those two universes are indeed not compatible and would force a whole bunch of storyline into both games that just doesn't belong. I'm not too knowledgeable of Star Fox lore but in the Metroid Lore, Samus is THE single best bounty hunter who puts all others to shame. Having Star Fox, which in it's own other universe is one of the best (if not the best) would just be pointless conflict, and is rather pointless.

They better not ruin Metroid with a pointless endeavor like this...it better be some fan made shit.

I think you play them separately for the majority of the game, then the 2 universes collide somehow. I think most people will enjoy the first half more.

With crossovers like this, lore and rules are usually not taken very strictly. Let alone any of it being canon.

Then again, the whole thought isn't that brilliant....i just hope they make a good game, the story won't be what you'll be buying it for.

Metroid story has always been rather dark and serious though and the universe is already well fleshed out and developed, putting Star Fox crap in the Metroid universe will just be godawful and I personally hope bad things happen to whichever person or people at Retro / Nintendo thought this would be a good idea.

I'm actually anticipating it. I trust that Retro will make a good game, mostly because of their impressive track record. If they are making this game then that means that they have some sort of vision of how it will be, and I think with Retro behind the wheel they can make the crossover work. Just please, for the love of god, don't go the direction of Other M. That game disappointed me and made me not want to buy any of team ninjas games for what they did to samus.

I'd like to point out Team Ninja didn't write the story. It was actually one of the lead guys on Super Metroid who wrote the game.

That doesn't matter, Metroid and Star Fox are two different universes with 2 distinct art styles and storylines. Mixing them cannot work.

In case you have not noticed, Nintendo has had a lot of cross over games on it recently.. and believe it or not they have all worked pretty well. Some we have yet to relly see though. But a few quick examples:

Pokemon Conquest, Project X Zone, SSBB... ummm actuall here:

not just nintendo but you get the point. Over all it's quite common.

Though looking at it.. it's a lot of nintendo stuff on there.

Yeah, because just look how poorly Smash Bros handled it.

Are you being sarcastic or serious...because if you're serious:

The two are not the same, Smash bros is merely a platform for well known Nintendo characters to duke it out in battle, the story isn't serious or established firmly with it's own lore. And, to a lesser degree, Star Fox has it's own established story and universe. They are not compatible in any sense and would involve a MAJOR retcon of both story lines.

On a personal note, not only as a gamer would I be disappointed in this crossover / merger, but as a super hardcore / diehard Metroid fan, I will be MASSIVELY disappointed to the point where I would actually write out, sign, and send Nintendo / Retro hate mail if this happened, summarizing in lengthy detail where every fault and failure was and why they are stupid for doing it, should this game happen.

Don't over think it to much Nova. The good thing about games like this is you have the choice to skip it with no harm done. Lots of people will love it and enjoy it but in no way will they stop making core Metroid games just because they decide to do something different once in a while. As I posted above cross over games are common. Let people who are happy for it and will enjoy it have that.

For those who don't like it, move on and don't let yourself get too frustrated over it. I don't doubt there will be more regular Metroid and Starfox games soon.

if it will be fun to play, why be so bothered by universe compatibility?

nothing of it will be "canon" anyway most likely.

The difference between those crossovers and this is that those are all either small cameos or they create and stick to a one style of gameplay from the original series within them, or a completely new one. This is taking two different gameplay styles and using both of them seperately, which, to me, just wouldn't work at all.

I really hope the guy in the video is a ginormous dumbler and none of this is happening.

^ ummmm, you only have land based and air combat. That has been in Starfox before and they have takes about putting it in Metroid for years. Also lots of games have gone back and forth between vehicles and land combat with Metroid it's not much different then switching between herself and her ball form.

But like was said before from what was said you can chose which perspective to play in the game, Starfox's or Samus', so there's not really much of a "mix" there unless you want there to be.

Metroid is more exploration/platforming based than it is combat based. That's what I mean when I say "two different styles of gameplay". Starfox might have had land and air combat in the past, but they're both fast-paced and combat focused and, in a sense, they're practically the same thing (The only difference between them being directional control). It's the same deal with ball form/Bipedal form. They're both exploration/platforming centric, they just control differently.

Starfox, for the most part, is on rails. Metroid (Well, the better Metroid games, anyway)give you the freedom of creating your own path to the end. They aren't going to go well together, and are better off as two seperate games.

Metroid is just as "on-rails" as Starfox, you just get to go backwards on them if you feel like, unless you only count Metroid one as being a "better" one. All the others (ALL) are A to B navigation

Metroid is NOT a rail shooter.

Quote :
A rail shooter is a type of action-based video game. In a rail shooter the player control is limited to directing where to fire a virtual gun or move their avatar around the screen; the player does not control the path their avatar takes from the start to the end (although they may be able to pause that movement), as if the player is tied to a rail like a roller coaster.
