PostSubject: The Irony.   The Irony. Icon_minitimeSat Aug 04, 2012 7:42 pm

My first Elder Dragon kill was on a Kirin. I find that ironic, because Kirin is exceptionally more difficult than most of the others in terms of finding the right way to hit it.

In any case, anyone have any ideas as to how to get the Kirin Thunder Tail? I need it because I'm working on True Devil Slicer, 'cause I need that to kill Shen Gaoren. Any tips would be appreciated: also, I have the rusted hammer, would that make any difference against Kirin or Shen Gaoren?

You carve it from the kirin. That is all. Just do the quest enough and you will get it.

Kirin doesn't have any breakable parts, so you're just gonna have to kill it & hope for the best.

Softest & most damaging spot would be his horn. I usually GS snipe (draw slash, roll, put away weapon, draw slash... rinse & repeat) or Hammer super pound.
Anything else either wouldn't reach in time (you may have noticed how small & nimble he is compared to other Elder's) or would bounce (armor skill ESP negates that, but I'm not sure if you have access to that yet).

In regard to Shen Gaoren, it shouldn't be too hard to solo any rank of him when using a Thunder or Dragon LongSword.

I'm still HR1 in the Guild Hall, so I don't think I do. On the other hand, I do have a hammer, and access to a few different GS. I'm not sure which element Kirin is weak to, though.

Kirin is not weak to any element.

Also, as far as Hammer / GreatSword's go, you want to focus on Raw Attack Power & Sharpness. Those two weapons don't combo consistantly enough for elemental damage to add up, GreatSwords especially (960 Raw GS > 800 Raw + 400 Element GS).

Note: I'm not trying to tell you how to play, just informing you.

No, you definitely have a point. I mean, I can see the elemental power being important against some enemies, but in terms of fighting Kirin, if it's not particularly weak to any element, then a raw damage weapon would make more sense to use. Thank you, I appreciate the advice there. Do you have any suggested GS perhaps?

No, red meant that for weapons like hammer and gs that dont do alot of hits, that raw is usually better than element. Not just for one particular monster, but in general.

Raw on a hammer or GS is the number 1 rule, RAW + Sharpness first, then sockets (for sake of getting crucial skills) then element.

I LOOOOOVe Unite hammers.

Well, I decreased the time it takes to kill Kirin by a little bit by using the Tiger Agito. 816 Raw with a bit of blue sharpness. Took me 16:43 to kill Kirin this time around, no bombs used; except for one that my felyne comrade threw, which actually knocked Kirin over. Pretty funny stuff.

Kirin isn't weak to any element, but it's least resistant to Fire.

Yeah, I learned that getting 4-5 minute runs is possible just by using a high raw hammer. c:
