Even the fact that you can now use a USB keyboard. Also The banning of "AFTER" was due to 1. German laws 2. Being on Capcom owned servers...
In MH3U's case the Servers are now Nintendos and since well... the servers are region locked and nintendo has their own servers in each region where Capcom (going through one server in Japan) did not, I see it this way...
1. German laws could still apply on the EU servers since they are all still together..
and
2. there is no reason for them to apply on the North American servers...

I am partial to the voice chat option... even though I will still get a keyboard for when I just don't feel like talking into an empty room.... sometimes I think my neighbors think i am schizo /sad/

I hope there is an off switch to it I hate hearing peoples voices when I try to hunt throws me off badly. I can not have someone speaking in the background when hunting.

It's most likely. Just about every game ive played has a mute option if there is voice chat capability.

I kinda wonder now just what all you could do with voice chat... Would you be audible to everyone in the lobby/city except for those who've muted you? Or will you be able to do things like whisper (talk to only a specific person/people who've joined your quest.) and squelch (keep a specific person/s from hearing what you say.). Also, would they make it possible so that you can talk directly to anyone on your friends list regardless of where you two are, and automatically squelch people on your block list?
There are certainly many features that could be used with this. Hopefully the localization team have all thought of this...

I very much doubt you will be able to talk in the city level. Only in the rooms and hunts.
Typed chat only at the city level.

That would definitely be much smarter. If not, I could see the lobbies eventually turning into this... [WARNING: language and derping]

Maybe the only ones that are able to hear/talk are the ones who have a headset or headphones, I dont want to hear someone ranting x.x it was horrible just reading it...
also, now that they are nintendo servers... does that mean that it will have some kind of strict law just like Miiverse? cause the rules are very strict there...
now now, I read that your ID friend list will sync with your MH friend list, so what happens if I have friends from EU on my list? also what happens if my ID list is full?

You should only be able to talk to or hear people people on your friends list... and how you can talk and hear people is detailed here:
Also the new way to add friends is there as well as several other features.

I am stoked for voice chat. Now i don't need to run my Xbox at the same time with a party going to talk to my friends when we play together.
Although i only have a 3DS now so i will be sitting with them when we play but later down the road when i get a WiiU i will love the voice chat.
Obviously it needs to have a simple on/off flag so you don't have to hear people when you don't want to.

I personally still love to use Skype and Vent when playing with friends, because you're always communicating. i'm not sure if u can while your not in the same party or room, but playing with randoms i will take advantage of the voice chat.
