Notes about new control method:

I've played about 20 hunts on the demo so far! Yes the controls are really difficult to use after playing Tri, but they get better with practice.

It's good to note that both the 3DS and WiiU gamepad have almost identical control methods. This means between both consoles you still maintain your same input skill.

Camera work was some what difficult to use on the 3DS, however the new 'recentering camera' feature is amazing once you get used to it.

I would suggest everyone here try to master the current controller layout between both consoles, it might seem cumbersome and uncomfortable but over time it really develops nicely as I've had the experience in doing.

Just for reference here:

L - Camera recenter on yourself / monster
Hold L - Adjust items with Y and A
R - Block / Charge / Alternate mode / Running

Y - Stow weapon / Use item
X - First attack
A - Second attack
X + A - Third attack
B - Dodge / Crouch

Quote :
(Check out the digital manual by pusing the 'HOME' button during the demo and looking at the bottom of the touch screen)

Weapon specific notes

Sword And Shield:
Pressing X + A will perform your jump attack from an idle position
You have to start blocking to use and item while weapon is drawn
Running + X + A = Instant block stance

Dual Swords
Running + X + A = Instant hyper mode
If you start a combo dance just before your stamina runs out you will continue dancing even with no stamina!

Great Sword
R + X + A = Instant block

Long Sword
X + A = fade slash backstep, you can sidestep if you use it during a normal combo.

Hammer
Running + X = Upswing
Running + X + A = Charge

Hunting Horn
X = White note
A = Green note
X + A = Blue note
R = Play combo or erase current notes.
Running + X + A = Begin playing combo

Combos I've discovered so far
White + White = Attack Deflection Prevented (ESP?)
White + Green + White = Heal
White + Green + Blue = Negate Stamina Use (Dash Juice?)
White + Blue + Blue = Defense Up
Blue + Blue + Green = Wind Pressure Negated

You can play a combo twice in a row, just keep pressing R.

I've never used the Hunting Horn before. I assume different horns have different effects?

Lance
R + X + A = Instant block stance
Blocking + A = Counter attack
Blocking + X + A = Charge forward

Gun Lance
R + X + A = Instant block stance
Blocking + A = Reload
A + X = Upswing
X + X + X + A = Explosive combo (Drops sharpness a lot!)
A + A = Shoot and reload
Blocking + X + A (+aiming) = Wyvren Fire blast (Has cool down of about 2 minutes!)

Lots of interesting ways to combine the blast shots (A) with other combos. Try using the upswing (X + A) and the blast to explode things above your head over and over!

Switch Axe
A + X + A A A = Infinity swings
R + X + A = Instant sword mode
R = Reload / Sword mode
Sword Mode + X + A + X X X = Sword burst

Light Bowgun
R + X + A = Instant reload
R = Scope
R (hold) = Aiming cursor (Using the D-pad)

Try all the dodges! Light bowguns now have a backhop which chains to a side hop.

Heavy Bowgun
R + X + A = Instant Reload
Weapon out + X + A = Turret mode
R = Scope
R (hold) = Aiming cursor (Using the D-pad)

Turret mode allows you to shoot certain ammunition without reloading, the only downside is you can't move. After a small delay you can dodge forward or to the side and thus exit the turret mode.

Bow
R + X + A = Melee attack
Weapon out + X + A = Apply coating
R (hold) = Aim (Using the D-pad)

Spoiler:

Really Nice and well done.. Good Job.. Do keep in mind however for those who may not know that the controls used in the demo are not 100% to those in the full version. Though close.. Basically just the setting options and all for the most part.

Jader, I agree with you on the controls getting better with practice, that holds true with all games. There seems to have been a lot more changes, however slightly, than first thought about but once learned they feel natural to me.

I am interested to see if the full version allows button mapping or something. I sort of doubt it will but fingers crossed!

Updated the OP. There is a manual in both version of the demo

- Start up the game.
- Press the HOME button.
- Look for the 'manual' button on the touch screen.

Nice of Capcom to hide it there! /versad/

FWIW, there is a manual in the Home menu on the Wii U. Unfortunately, at least in the demo, you can't have the manual open at the same time the game is running (Home pauses, just like Tri offline). Don't know if the manual will be available this way in the full version. So in the meantime, I've had this page open on my laptop next to me - thanks!

Argh, ninja'd!

Some additional from the manual:

ZR = turns Lock-on mode on/off
+ = Kick (weapon sheathed) / Special Attack (Weapon drawn)

Different Hunting Horns will have different note colors, so the buffs will be different.

Any info on customizing the touch screen?
