So this has been popping up in many threads in the MH3U section, so lets put it all here in one place.
What weapon do you plan to focus on in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate?

I for one will be using the Hunting Horn and Heavy Bow Gun.

I'm curious as well to know what you guys will be using.

Hammer, GS and Bowguns (kinda leaning more towards light than heavy).

I felt like it was too easy to not die in P3rd with Lances and Bows, and I ended up relying on them too much. So, in Tri G/Ultimate, I want to try and get even better with Hammers and be at least effective with the other two. I might switch it up with a Hunting Horn occasionally online, but I felt they were a little weak in P3rd, and can't really make my mind up on them in Ultimate with just the demo.

So, I'm really new to the MH series - never played it before, just DL the demo for the 3DS yesterday (getting it for Wii U)

I've always loved duel wielding characters, but I keep reading that horns own in this game. Is duel wielding a strong way to go?

Hunting horns aren't particularly strong, but they aren't weak either. They mainly are used for buffing your team and such.
Dual swords are pretty good as well.

Honestly though, if you're really new to the game, it might be good to try out something like te sword and shield or a long sword.

Great sword and switch axe.

So I take it you can specialize with two weapons?

Pretty sure Ares meant in the way of, "What weapon will you, yourself be using the most?"
There's no real weapon specialisation outside of MH Frontier, and even so you're not technically locked into it, and it's completely optional (style rank weapons).

No bonuses of sorts for using one weapon all the time apart from a huge different in the weapon usage chart on your guild card lol.

Though I don't recall them in the demo... STONES the best MH weapon ever.

Can't wait wait for the SwtchStones in MH4 (not announced) the stones turn into daggers mid throw.

I honestly use all the weapons. i mainly go for greatswords and long swords when i begin and try upgrade them to the max. i will create base weapons for the other types along the way.

So i guess you could say i'd be focusing on GS in the beginning, then after i've unlocked all possible quests, i start to make all types of weapons and armors.

Online, going to focus on Hunting Horns. I completely disagree about them not being that powerful. While they do shine in buffing and healing the group, they can dish out tons of constant damage. Not as much burst damage as a GS or a Hammer, and not as much dps as an uninpeaded LS or DS user, but definately more damage in a real fight where there is alot of movement involved.

If you have a stationary object, then it is not the highest dps.. but that doesn't happen often.

Edit: at least not in offline mode.

I've been starting to focus on Great Swords more as of lately. And I plan on using the Switch Axe more as well. I barely ever fought with those back in Tri. Kinda a shame, because to me it has the most beautiful and awesome appearance of all weapons.

And maybe the bow or something, but I'll do that as an extra challenge or something /yes/

I did a lot of LS and Lance in Tri. I never got into the Switchaxe and always wanted too. Maybe that and bows.

We'll see. I'm going to try them all this time.

Dual swords , hammer and switch axe for sure. Maybe longsword.

I will focus on longswords and greatswords. I also really liked the gunlance and bow from the demo so I will probably use them as well.

I'd like to master the dual swords, then work my way to using the bow and other stuff.

First and foremost I will be using the great sword. After I learned to use it properly in Tri it has become my favorite weapon ever.

After that, I am very intrigued with the bow. This will require a great deal of my time to properly explore the possibilities of this weapon.

And finally, I want to try out the hunting horn. I like the idea of using music to screw with the monsters…

It's a beginner friendly weapon :p At least I didn't tell him to switch axe...

im going to use anything i havnt used before, bow and bowgun will be my priority, then hunting horn. i wont be using dual swords though, because i just know i will love them and then i'll ignore the rest.

Realistically, I will be maining 4 weapon types, have 4 side weapons, and the rest I'll use occasionally.

Main: Dual, Hammer, and LS, and Sns

Side: Lance, GS, Swax, and bowgun

occasional: Hunting horn, Bow, Gunlance

I honestly don't understand Hunting horn or gunlance.

For gunlance I don't like the idea of a rifle that stabs XD Lance is better imo...

And hunting horn is confusing.... What do the notes actually do??

Primary use will be the Gun lance for underwater( i feel safe behind the shield), then GS>hammer>SWaX for Land battle......

I'm likely to use the LS quite a bit, along with the SA, which I find is rather unique from the times I've used it in Tri, though thanks to my practice using the GS in Unite, I might end up maining the GS.

I am kinda stuck with playing by myself mostly because of myself not being interested in investing into a WiiU, so I won't have issues with using the LS and SA!

Dual swords and gunlances is what i will use.

MY BARE HANDS AND CARVING KNIFE.

But now honestly speaking, I'll use SnS and Swax as my two main weapons; I always used these two weapons in MH3 so I see no reason to stop using them :p

And as for secondary weapons I want to take the time to learn how to properly use a hammer and bow in MH3U.

I'll use a Great sword once in a while once in a while, because everyone looks like a boss with a GS in their hand (⌐■_■)
