yep, I was watching MilesSMB's twitch stream when he broke the World Record for a Metriod Prime Any % Speedrun...gotta say the things he was doing had my jaw drop and only further make me want to practice Metroid games

He will be re-airing his world record breaking run later today at his stream:

http://www.twitch.tv/milessmb

If you look at it while he's offline he updated his former time to the new time for completion. This dude is honestly amazing and I enjoyed watching and learning from his run.

don't particularly like the idea of practising games for hours for true speedruns, but watching tool assisted inhuman perfection speedruns is quite fun.

The only nod I ever give to tool assist stuff is to find out what is actually doable non-tool-assist. Like how Cosmo did his insane Wind Waker speed run after TAS people found out you can physically do the stuff if you practice.

i'm not saying that doing real speedruns is bad, i'm saying I would never spend time becoming world-record-speedrun-good at a game. If anything i would TAS something just to see it in realtime later.

I don't expect to be beating a world record like that anytime soon however I am going to be attempting to get as fast as possible on Metroid games. I mean they are just so perfect to try it on.

Isn't Metroid designed as a speed challenge to begin with? The GBA versions are proof of that since you unlock "better" endings the better time and % you have.

I hate speed runs, exploiting and finding out every secret of a game to me just seems like you're spoiling it.

I don't see how that spoils it if you already beat the game 100%

I have issues with it in MH mainly because it is confused as skill when it's mainly used to over inflate HR I love to see tool assisted and non tool assisted speed runs. Heck not even speed runs score attack too like in star fox 64

It makes you really see how broken some games are and easily exploited.
Anyone watch Cosmo's Ocarina any% run?

Deku Tree basement -> Ganon's Tower collapse.

The 2d ones sure, however there are those of us who want to do beyond the set ending screen for a low time run, and the Prime series doesn't reward you for faster completion. Most people on Prime take like 7 to 13 hours to complete it, doing it in 56 minutes is just insane. Not to mention a huge chunk of it being heavy skill.
