Question about 3ds/wii u conectivity Empty
PostSubject: Question about 3ds/wii u conectivity   Question about 3ds/wii u conectivity Icon_minitimeTue Apr 02, 2013 6:13 pm

I was going to post this on the Q/A Thread but it semed more related to conectivity than in game question so here goes:

I'm planning on playing with my wife once i get my wii u, she will be playing on the wii u and i will be playing on the 3ds, so far no problem with this.

Now here is my question and hopefully someone with wii u and 3ds mh3u can tell me.

Im planning on transfer my game to the wii u when im playing alone, it will create a separate save slot on the wii u?.
Also if we go away let's say to a family trip and my wife want to keep playing on the 3ds can i have both saved chars on the game??.

I don't really know how far Capcom thought this trhough becouse im thinking that it will only let 1 game to be played, just like sometimes pokemon work in the dreamworld.

So can you or can't you do this?.

Another example: i want to switch to play on the wii u and my wife can play on the 3ds so we need to switch our chars from the systems, again the game creates diferent save points?, if i remeber right on the wii with monster hunter tri you created a file with your name and inside the file you could create 3 diferent characters i don't see that option on the 3ds game. Or is it?.

Let me know becouse depending on this it will be worth it to get or not the wii u.
Thanks

I'm surprised this hasn't been answered yet. The game seems to have a bigger community but the forums are much quieter.

Anyway, while I don't own both versions, I can say with some certainty that the results you are hoping for aren't attainable. The Save files on the Wii-u and 3ds are to be treated as one entity. From what I understand, in order to transfer save files, the receiving system must delete all files before the transfer, and then the files are copied over(I'm not sure whether or not the sending system still has a copy or not). This means you can have 3 files, but all 3 or on one system, or the other(potentially both, though one set must be erased before a transfer). Ultimately, this means you couldn't have one person's file on the 3ds and the other's on the wii-u sadly.

I only remember this from reading about the file transfer while contemplating getting both versions(decided not to) so I can't remember where the source is, sorry. Hope that helps.

You can have two profiles on the Wii, each with individual save files.

However you can only have one profile active on the 3ds at any time. If the other player wants to use the 3ds then player A needs to transfer their save data back to the wii.

I do this with My 3DS version and My little Brothers all the time

The Wii U's Save files are ID dependant, each person only gets 3 characters (one save)

a 3DS version can only have one file in it at a time, but it doesnt matter who's file that is, so say your wife wanted to play on the 3DS, and your file was in the 3DS, you would log in to your Wii U ID, start up that MH3U then do the data transfer, so your 3 characters are on your Wii U ID's save file

Then you would log out of your Wii U ID, into hers start up MH3U again. run the Data Transfer again and her files would now be in the 3DS

Also you dont need extra MH3U 3DS version, or extra 3DSs, or an extra SD card, as long as there isnt a file in the 3DS, anybodies Wii U file can be moved in

although be careful you remember whose is where, on the Wii U everything stays organized with IDs and all, but say you both have your saves in the Wii U and someone starts another file on the 3DS, you'll either have to delete the save data to transfer, or find a Wii U ID to store that extra file

man i figured that much, thanks for all your comments so:
- If i want to play with my wife, me playing on the 3ds and she playing on the wii u there is no problem about it.
- If i want to play on the wii u i can transfer the 3ds save file and play on the wii u since it has diferente save slots wich gives you 3 char slots, so no problems.
- If we want to take the game on the go we have to decide wich file will be on the 3ds becouse it can only have 1 save file at the time.

Now new questions wich i think i already have the answer:
- If i create her right now a new char on my 3ds that means we can't play with each other becouse they will be on the same save file? This is really weird becouse on mh tri you could do this on the arena, i had just 1 save file with 3 char slots and 1 of them is my wife's char, and we can play on the arena no problem. And both chars are on the same save file.

O well gotta be backing up the files just in case, i think it works like when you trade pokemons, The file gets erased after it gets copied on the new system.

Too bad we can't have both save files on the 3ds that's sad.

Yeah that Arena in Tri was more of a gimmick, for the split screen factor. The way MH works its almost pointless for multiple ppl to share the same file (not character, though that be a little odd too)

It does suck a bit if your both on the go and can only have one of the save files, but at the same time MH seems to be more aimed at playing together on the go, so it may be a little pointless for you both to be on the same system anyways (at least if your out and about)

True, i'll need to get another 3ds and buy another mh just to play on the go, wich is not going to happen, so yea, but if it ever going to happen i could just take out my psp and keep going where i left off in mhf wich i got last year for the lulz, really good though graphics sucks but saying that a game is good becouse of the graphics is like saying porn is good becouse of the plot TrollJho

Also, I have to mention that to do the data transfer, you have to download a seperate app. "Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Data Transfer Tool", from the eShop in Nintendo. That apps sole job is to transfer files and keep a backup copy in case the transfer encountered a problem.

Kk thanks, i remember reading somewere that this app took a while to get released.
Also this app is only for the wii u right? is not like you have to activate the app on the system you are transfering all the work is done on the wii u system. Correct me if im wrong.
Thanks again

The App is for the 3DS, the Wii U has the Data Transfer built in to the game, when you activate it on the Wii U, from the Start Menu, it tells you to activate the Tool on the 3DS

with the 3DS you download the app (its free) run the app (not the game) and it'll ask you if you want to transfer from 3DS to Wii U or from Wii U to 3DS. Don't worry if you click the wrong option, nothing will be detected if say you click Wii U to 3DS, if your attempting to move your file from 3DS to Wii U

Im not sure how the backup works though, although when you select 3DS to Wii U Cha-Cha tells yous he's putting your data in a secret spot before you even start the transfer
