Hey guys,

I wanted to try a hunting horn out so I did, but when I tried to kill the peco, i just couldn't! My great bagpipes sharpness failed so quickly and he barely went into exhaustion, are HH good for soloing, if so why do I find the hammer 100x better?

Thanks

Dan

Try playing the White White song twice (or after the first song hit R again for a second verse)

it'll add Attack Deflection Prevention

there could be many reasons for why, you might not be comparing a hunting horn of similar damage as one of your hammers, your skills with a hammer compared to hunting horn may be vastly different, you might not be making use of your songs correctly, or at all.

This ^

My friend things dual blading is faster then hunting horn-ing.

Needless to say, My horning won, becuase he SUCKS at blading, he assumes more hits at like 200 raw out damage one or two hits at 800-1000.

What he didn't realize was the exhaustion factor and the fact when I KO something it's head gets MAJORLY wiped, and that I'm far skilled with a horn in comparsion to his run in and demon dance the feet.

It's all about how you play and the songs you use.

Hunting Horn is perfectly viable for solo play. Unless I need a tail cut or the monster is a special case, I will use the hunting horn or kelbi bow .

I mentioned this in another post, but when you fight a monster with the hunting horn, it has a wide attack area, and will always focus first on the breakable parts. What this means when fighting a Quropeco is that most of the times you will be hitting it's Flints. The flints have a hardness that only can be penetrated by green sharpness and higher. This means that with yellow sharpness, you are doing 75% less damage per hit, on a zone that already takes little damage. Even if you get a weapon with green sharpness, you are still hitting the flints, which take less damage than say the chest, feet, tail or head.

I would recommed you aim for the tail and feet, and when you knock it down, go for a few good head shots. it will drastically cut down on your hunting time with Quropeco until you get a higher sharpness HH.

HH are great for soloing once you have a few hunts under your belt, but the learning curve is a bit higher than for other weapons. With the exception of the heavy bowgun, and the lances, it requires more practice to master than all other weapons, but it pays it back with interest later on with the abilities to negate anything a monster has without having to change out your armor, and still dishing out a constant stream of hurt.

To answer your second question, it's because the only starter weapon that doesn't suck against queropeco is the hammer. If you're used to fighting him with that, the low level bagpipe is going to seem useless. The hammer is only good because you're not hitting him that often, so the sharpness penalty isn't as much of an issue. Once you get a horn that goes to green (The Lagi horn is pretty awesome early on) you won't be worrying about sharpness much.
