all in all, when compared to a similar weapon, how does slime stack up? is it worth having on a hammer? i know hammers are poor when it comes to inflicting status, but it still looks like a decent weapon. i also use LS and Lances on occasion, and i know both of those are better at status than the hammer. without farming i have enough stuff to make 1 right now, and though like a said i do use LS and Lance, those are basically there for certain bosses, ive definately made the hammer my main lately.

It's meh on hammer. I'd get the highest raw with sharpness level hammer. It's good on LS but not on lance. Use element for lance

Slime is good only because of it's burst aspect, and the fact that you get the same overall dps regardless of what the monster resistances are.

With that said, hammers are not known for elemental acuity because they are not multi-hit weapons. Like has been said, go for highest raw/sharpness you can get... which at the end, will end up being the final form of the slime hammer anyways... amazing how that works...

Allow me to hijack that slime related topic to ask a small question.

How does slim weapons "work", anyway?

I am using it as a bow right now and I find it bit confusing. Sometimes I can fire four ot five volleys without anything happening, then sometimes I get differently coloured slime effects a few times in a row and sometimes again I get large explosions right off the bat. Like last time today where I nuked off Duramboros horns with, literally, the very first, power coating, volley to the head.

Is it really "that" random?

When you hit there is a chance you will put slime on the monster, the same way it would be if you were using a para, poison, or sleep weapon, which will be accompanied by a special animation. If you put enough slime on the monster it will explode and deal damage. The special animation around your hit will gradually change color as the explosion draws closer. If you do something like demon dance with a DS or a spread shot with a bow all of your hits will either have slime or no slime.

Let me know if I didn't explain something well, I'm about to pass out and just wanted to explain this before I fell asleep.

Honestly, if it didn't have such an abusive proc rate on DB, SnS, Gunlance and Bow. it would be just another status to play around. My hope for future installments is that if Slime sticks around (see what I did there?) monsters carry a higher overall resistance to it and some monsters are outright immune.

I like the status, mainly because it helps with monster speed runs with a bunch of players, and it's nice thing to use against monsters that have elemental resistances you don't know about, though it does take a while to get slime for blades (all the way to high rank o.o), it's pretty much worth the trouble.

For monsters with dual resistances like barroth or alatreon, slime is good at all times XD I love it, it doesn't really cause monsters to die too fast (hell, any kind of power weapon can do that lol), but I can certainly see its strengths.

imo what makes it so over powered is that it's a universal power, it can kill any monster effectively and generally all slime weapons have high raw power.

Slime is a nice tool, however, I think it should stay away from being a status, and make it a new type of ability all together.

The explosions should occur more frequently, inflictions should be constant, and the explosions should be highly reduced in power.

For every two hits, an explosion should occur. (Right BRACHYDIOS!? XD)
The highly reduced damage can even help with dual blades from becoming too powerful, but allow even non elementally matched weapons hold an advantage against monsters who you don't know the weaknesses to.

Keep most of the slime properties the same, but all I want is for it to be more individual from element and status.
The skills that increase its power already do a nice job of it though, since bombardier will act like status up and even pyro will work too. XD

It'd be a strange mix of status and element.

I like slime it gives raw powered weapons a little needed boost.

Third generation had a much higher emphasis on elemental damage on weapons like longsword, and now great sword.

In unite if you had a high raw powered longsword it could compete with most elemental weapon.

To me slime kind of closed the gap in two ways now it had an effect I won't really call it a status even though it works like one it's application is far more frequent. It was also boosting weapons with considerably high raw power.

I wish the day comes where raw longswords become viable again slime sort of did that for me this generation.

Here is an example of the differences between raw powered longswords and elementally based longswords back in unite.

Try the Narga longswords. both final branches have excellent raw output.

The only thing slime has is it is undoubtedly the best method to break parts. That and it requires no skill to use since you can go trigger happy on a monster as opposed to positioning yourself to hit a monsters weak point for the best dps possible. Overall elemental kills stuff faster than slime does by far but people don't like having to aim.

The best example? Kelbi bow. The majority of the community to put it bluntly are fucking retarded. They think spamming that level 1 spread level 3 is the best/only way to use kelbi bow.

Apparently most people don't know that the charge state affects both raw and elemental/status inflicted with said weapon.

1st Charge 40% 50%
2nd Charge 100% 75%
3rd Charge 150% 100%
4th Charge 150% 112.5%

You spend less than 1 second to reach your second charge state for a 75% slime infliction as opposed to 50%. And you also have access to scatter level 4 as opposed to level 3. Now for some math.

At level 1 youre shooting 3 arrows hitting at 50% status firing at a rate of 1 shot per sec = 17.5 x3 but since everything is rounded down it becomes 17 x3 slime inflicted or 51 slime afflicted every sec (assuming it always procs) so in a 15 second time span you inflict 765 slime.
As opposed to level 2 you're shooting 4 arrows with 75% status at a rate of 1 shot per 1.5 sec = 26.25 x4 but since everything is rounded down it becomes 26 x4 or 104 slime inflicted every 1.5 seconds. So in a span of 15 seconds you inflict 1040 slime.

So as you can see even spamming level 2 charges with kelbi bow is more effective than spamming level 1. Since level 1 hits at 765 slime per 15 sec as opposed to level 2 hitting at 1040 per 15 sec. Not to mention that kelbi bows raw output is more than doubled at level 2 as opposed to level 1. The higher charge states using rapid inflict slime even faster but since the community is generally retarded they spam level 1.

Thank you for the explanation. However, I thought I'd point out that the fully upgraded Kelbi Bow/Slingshot's level 1 AND level 2 charged shots shoot 5 spike balls. Unlike the one/two before it, where they shoot 3 spike balls with the level one charge, and 4 with the second charge. I still think it will be better to spam level 2 charged shots though. Didn't bother to do the math however.

Eh regardless proper element spam > kelbi bow.
