PostSubject: Long Sword vs Switch Axe?   Long Sword vs Switch Axe? Icon_minitimeThu Apr 25, 2013 10:51 am

Hey guys,

I want to start using the Long Sword or the Switch Axe, (as unfortunatly my hammer cannot cut off tails...) and wondered which people would choose, obviously I could use both but I'd like to main one, and also, any tips for new starters of the Long Sword or Switch Axe?

Thanks

Daniel

It's a matter of preference really, I prefer longsword. The tactic with that is to go in get some hits and backslash out of there when needed.

Longsword is easier to play with than almost any other weapon. Switchaxe requires a little by more skill. Damage wise, a well blade longsword can dish out more damage than a switchaxe.. but the switchaxe can put in more damage per "opening". so it is a toss up.

If you feel like having a fighting stance is inportant after doing a big move is important, then longsword is for you. If you like doing big hits, or watching things blow up after your signature move, then go switchaxe.

If you want to CUT TAILS... then go Greatsword. A few fully charged GS attacks to a tail is usually enough to sever it. My personal best has been roughly 20 seconds into the fight, while it is still doing its "I'm here, I'm a monster, get used to it!" speach. lol

Longsword has gotten significantly worse than it was in Tri. It is no longer the best damage dealer on a stationary target.

Switchaxe is more fun though so stick with that. And as opposed to LS which needs one of every element, switchaxe only needs 3

How come only 3? Is there something I missed?

I'm guessing it's because switchaxes have phials, or something. Or it could be one of those weapons where a few specific ones have an obvious advantage over all others of it's type on most monsters.

That's not entirely true. There's also this new Dragon shaped event swax with ice element, power phial and 1196 raw; Mizar's Asterism (doesn't require Sharpness+1 unlike all swaxes you mention above) which base on pure raw (or poison if you have awaken). Also keep in mind that you have to use sword mode most of the time.

To be purrrrrfectly honest all swaxes you mention are medicore without Sharpness+1. Stygian Vanglora is my favourite swax in game (amazingly cool sound when you sheath it), but it's level of sharpness without S+1 is just pathetic. Even Razor sharp can't compensate that. Brisant Demolisher is only good because of slime since it have also really tiny white sharpness without S+1.

Also Alatreon swax is pretty good as you don't have to invest in Sharpness+1 (natural, very high purple sharpness), so you can gem dragon attack+2 and all you want.

Dragon's roar looks pretty...... but it has non existing element. 12 ice is fucking awful. Though it has 3 slots which is nice I suppose and makes it actually usable.

Mizars asterism is ehhh no element means a much lower damage output even factoring in the natural affinity.

Alatreon's switchaxe is the only melee weap I believe that's completely outclassed.

As far as i can see it's 120 ice not 12...

Mizars Asterism have +30% affinity. Poison element after awakening. And it's the only SWAX in game with power phial that doesn't require Sharpness+1 to have purple sharpness. It's decent imho.

Ala SWAX will outdo other you mention above under right circumstances. With dragon attack up+2 it's element have very high value.

What i'm trying to say, in most scenario your choices will do the job just fine. But sayin that there are only 3 swaxes in game is just ignorance. There are many options to choose from. k thx, bye

12 element after proper calculations. Mizars asterism is eh. The fact that you mentioned awaken is lulzy. It's decent like I said but there are better.

Ala switchaxe doesn't come close to outdamaging the switchaxes I mentioned since raw > element.
