The Griffon Blazooka Set

I'm using this set currently.

Crit eye 3
pierce up
recoil down + 1

I love this gun's design and I always use it to solo jhen with some good times however I heard crit eye 3 is not very useful in this gun but AUL is a much better choice set along with weakness exploit also works well with negative affinity gun.

How can I still power up this gun's potential to the max?

Recoil Down+1 and Pierce up is a must, rest is optional. I always go for this but it's just my personal preference:

Weakness Exploit
Recoil Down+1
Pierce up

or

Challenger+2
Recoil Down+1
Pierce up
AuS

for set one i dont get why ppl go for peak performance unless u're speed running with friends while the mobs is always trap/sleep or such. but when soloing elder dragon like ceadus and such i get chip damaged from them then peak performance is deactivated

Griffon Blazooka is usable only in siege mode so in the first place you have to learn how to position yourself properly so mobs can't hit you. Also with pierce gun you never wants to be in close range because you lose all potential from range dmg boost. So unless you're hit by projectiles you shouldn't take hits with pierce gun, aspecially Griffon Blazooka which base on siege. Also worth noting is that Peak Performance is basically AuL but really easy to gem in as opposed to AuL, CE+3, Challenger. Lack of slots on Griffon and negative aff also doesn't help so i consider set with Peak Performance, Weakness Exploit, Recoil Down+1, Pierce up very balanced. And it's really funny how easy it's to make. I made it monstly on high rank jhen parts (only g rank part was silver sol torso and G rank jhen legs) and vangis waist.

does your theory only applies to elder dragon like jhen etc? because if normal play againts rathian,diablos and those brute wyverns i'm dead without evade extender and they dont give u the chance to siege them as often

Depends on many factors such as if you're soloing or not, you have support etc. If you're playing solo, the monster will probably lock on you. If you have teammates there'll be some moments when it'll focus on them. Also I don't recommend using pierce on diablos or ian. In Theory you can hunt down anything with everything. But of course some weapons work better than others like hammer on ura. I mainly use pierce on Ludroth, P. Ludroth, Lagi, I. Lagi, Jhen, H. Jhen, Gigginox, B. Gigginox, Miralis, Ceaseus, G. Ceaseus. It makes wonders on other monsters too, but you need to have status support.
