| I got a rough edge from a guild quest, with an element icon I haven't seen before. It kinda looks a little skull with a fuse on it. I'm assuming it's blast. Like blast coating since, when I tested it out, it did indeed blow up in monster's faces (And misc body parts), occasionally. And occasionally it leaves a little fire effect, or a little red smoke cloud... What I using here? | |

| It's Blast. I'm pretty sure you need Awaken on Rough Edge for it to activate, though. | |

Still seems to make em blow up, eventually, even in axe mode.

| Pretty sure Guild Quest weapons can have different elements. I'm pretty sure Rough Edge had a Dragon Phial. What you probably have is a relic version that happened to spawn with Blast damage.
Mechanically, Blast works identically to a status weapon, except instead of triggering a status effect that lasts X time, it's instant and deals damage outright. Plenty of monsters have a pretty low resistance to Blast early on, but it'll ramp up as you start 'sploding them.
Specifically, Blast works by building up on a monster on random attacks (hence the little fiery clouds), and when it reaches the resistance threshold and triggers, BOOM: Flat damage on whatever part you triggered the explosion on. The monster's resistance to blast goes up a bit, and the build-up resets. It's a really good part-breaker and damage-dealer, and a good substitute for elements you don't have or when you're fighting multiple monsters without a common elemental or even status weakness.

| Yup, when i dont want to go pure RAW I like to go with blast weapons. They ussually have a high enough raw that the blast is just a nice effect. They are pretty good general weapons as instacake pointed out. | |
