Okay so im getting up in hunter rank slowly. i see the quest festival of fear on the wiki. so my question is can you hunt jhen anytime or do u have to wait for a jhen day?

there are 3 different jhen quests, urgent, plus rank, and regular. The regular one is during the event along with the plus rank, anyone can do the regular one, but only hr31+ can do the plus rank. Hr27+ can do the urgent.

Jhen morhan is the monster who's quests confuse MANY users online.


Here's what you want to know:

Jhen Morhan is a monster available during specific times as well as being the monster you need to beat in order to get into high rank (urgent quest :D).

Just as the user above me said, there are 3 versions of jhen:

1. Standard listed jhen - The Urgent quest available when you met the requirements (Minimum rank to join and rank 30 to receive the quest for the urgent)

2. Event jhen (low rank) - The altered jhen event that's available for everyone (Why do they do this.... :/) to fight. It's only available during the jhen event.

3. Event Jhen (high rank) - The jhen that give high rank materials for armor and weapons. This jhen is available during event days only for people rank 31+.

There are no other jhen quests.
High rank jhen is ONLY AVAILABLE on event days.
No matter how much you progress in the game, high rank jhen will NEVER appear on your quest list naturally.

It's annoying how many jhen rooms I enter having people barking at me for not posting high rank jhen quests when the event isn't even up...

the urgent you can do anytime.
the regular low rank quest you can do anytime.
the only ones on jhen days are high rank jhen, and low rank jhen, that a lot of new players have access to cuz i think its a HR18+ quest

But high jhen really takes strong weapons to be killed, like end game weapon strong
So when you get to hr 31 dont ask someone if they wanna do jhen+ when its on.
Unless you hack, then its allowed

There's a few things to take into consideration when choosing a weapon for jhen.

1. You'll do fairly low damage with it when you're not attacking the mouth/cracks, so aside from that (or breaking the arms), just use the cannons/ballistas. Those are good enough to get you that kill.

2. For attacking those cracks, having a weapon that can be aimed at one specific spot is very good. The LS for example, will do tremendous DPS (dat red bar), but you won't be able to get all hits on the cracks. GS/Lance/Hammer are good at aiming at one point. GS can still attack the cracks after they're broken, Lance has very high DPS. Hammer doesn't have much DPS, but at least you'll be able to get the cracks. Most other weapons are so-so.

For LR jhen, there's really not too much need for too much meleeing. Having 2 guys with a good GS or lance, or really, any sufficiently upgraded weapon, should be more than enough. Just make sure they don't stay on jhen too long, breaking parts is the important thing.

Also if you can i would get a Switch Axe. With it u can spam the elemental burst on the cracks.
I would use a crystal weapon or the bari weapons and then spam the sword mode.
Also i used low rank lagi armor, for razor sharp...
Yah also as being the one probably with a bad weapon u can just spam cannon and still kill him, i think pn low jhen if 4 people spam cannon u can still kill him.
And as Win32Error said leave once the parts break.
Also a tip:
When (or if) jhen falls onto his side (and stays there for a little bit) in the final showdown put the anti-dragon bombs in his mouth and blow them up for MASSIVE DAMAGE!!!

Elemental burst has pretty low DPS. You're better off using the regular sword combo.

When did it become a "Thing" for people to use Swaxes with Mind's eye?
I've seen like 6 of them today, people using swax with mind's eye.

It annoyed me because they were in sword mode...

Bombs will do "MASSIVE" damage regardless of where you place them, in fact , you're better of using them to break the horns

bombs ar eunaffected by hitzones: putting them in the mouth or on the spine cracks is a really BAD idea, let's see why:

mouth: they will do the same damage as everywhere else, but blow people who were trying to hit the weakspot off.

spine cracks: the cracks are an easy way to deal a quick amount of damage to jehn, it's like a 1 use weakspot. if you break them with bombs you just wasted the chanche to attack a weakspot with other weapons.

on a side note, antidragon bombs ARE affected by bombardier armor skill.

PS: the elemental burst doesn't have low dps at all, as long as you only use it on a monster that's almost out of a trap or paralysis. What makes it unfavorable is the team disruptive capabilites and the long recovery animation. You can solve the first issue by learning some positioning, as for the long recovery animation just time it so it won't matter, like (for example) on a blos that's about to fly out a pitfall.

That doesn't go for jhen though... I mean, it works like that, if you time it right (if you don't, you'll miss the finisher). But jhen doesn't have that. So you're better off using the regular combo, which is just slightly better on the long run.


It IS possible to do a final finisher when he's flipped over and closes his mouth....but you'll have to take damage, and that happens maybe 2x per quest.

Idk if it's really something you should use again and again...
It's pretty effective just swinging the sword without worrying about having to reload or anything.

You can get quite a lot of hits in just swinging before you need to reload.

i meant the discharge is not a great choiche, best on jehn would be just upswing/dwonswing with a power phial sword
