General rule is that the Hammer gets the head. As long as you were aiming for the head, then you get priority with a hammer. One exception and this is totally up to you is a level 3 charged GS - But they technically shouldn't be at the head either. They just do massive damage, so if you can help it, let them get their hit in. I can't tell you how many unskilled (don't know their role) hunters I have superpounded away. There are also hammer users that only superpound the feet of monsters...these people make me cringe.

One of my shouts is "Hammer = Head" For both those occasions.

Come to think of it.... A rusted swax may not even be able to function. :D

I think if a switch axe got stuck between sword and axe mode the weapon would be epic, it would be able to use it's phial, and you can move fast like in axe mode!
