People say that the Alatreon armor sucks, and is not worth going after. Well i was pretty lucky when i went after it, i had the full set at hr52. But i want to know why it sucks. The resistance shouldn't even matter because most elemental attacks are ranged. Along with that, it has the highest defense in the game.

The skills are ok, i actually managed to gem on Evade +2 and take off the item use down, resulting in Blightproof, Awaken, Evade Up, and Evade +2. I use this as my main armor, yet people dont like it, why is this?

I also usually see alot of people using helios armor, I understand it is good with hammers, because of earplugs and sharpness +1. Other than that what makes it so good? just the earplugs and sharpness? I see alot of high ranks using it. People say its the best, can somebody explain?

Another thing, why do i see people using agnaktor armor with longswords...

1. The armor has quite a few skills that aren't that useful.
Ala armor has Evade up... Awaken... Blight proof......... While other armors can give more skills for combat.
Gemming in Evade+2 is nice... But that's just about the only combat effective skill you have.

2. Other armors give off more useful skills as well as having slots to bring in more skills like evasion+2.
Barioth armor can give evasion +2 naturally (Barioth+ is the same, but instead of marathon runner you get Evade distance up and I think cold res hi?) also, and then you could just avoid every bit of damage to worry about defense or how high/low your resistances are. Then you can add a tali as well as use the slots available to add a bonus skill.

3. You use a skypiercer man.... T.T That could be used to get you a powerful long sword! (This is a little personal argument from me, I luv my dark claw demise)

As for Helios...
It is damn good hammer armor (And nice armor in general imo).
You get sharpness+1 which adds up GREAT power to many weapons in the game.
Earplugs to block monster roars so that you can keep attacking without having to stop at all.
Adding a mix could give you extra skills as well. You can add in evasion, attack up, critical eye, focus, critical draw, etc.
You can make a good LS set out of a Vangis/Helios mix that give HGE, Sharp, and AuL.
THAT is what makes helios so good.

" I see alot of high ranks using it. People say its the best, can somebody explain? "

They use it to get a good amount of damage in.
They have the player skill to avoid damage, as well as armor skills to help make sure the damage is given and increase the amount of damage given.
It simply kills a monster fast, which is why many people like it.
I for one can't really deal with playing without sharpness + since it's such a useful skill.

" Another thing, why do i see people using agnaktor armor with longswords... "
Well that's easy, someone has actually told me why he uses agy armor with a LS.
His excuse (Agy+ armor btw) Gave him Razor sharp, so he didn't want to get another armor set.....
For regular agy armor.... It's probably for the fire res. They must die a lot by Los/Ian/Agy.
I don't see another reason to use regular agy armor with a LS.

i really have no idea why people use full agna for ls. the best ls set is agna parts mixed with other parts for guard+2, guard up, auto guard, and demonic blessing. this set works really well with guan dao

the skill ala armor has are not so good;
-there's no real good weapon that requires awaken
-if you want evade+ and evade dist , barioth armor is better
-if you have evade dist and evade+ and use it correctly, blightproof is useless since you wont get hit a lot
-it hasnt many slot to customize

helios mixes are best, because the skills it gives (sharp+1, HGE) are among the best and it has enough slot to customize (for evade, speed sharp, atk up, crit drawx, focus, trapmaster...)

newbie people use aggy+ with LS for the high def and elemental resistance, i guess
at least it has razor sharp...

I find agna armor to be a good lance set for guard Lancing (at the beginning) eventually u might switch to evade Lancing which then Bari+ helps

Also Escadora's defense is one of the 3 highest. Tied with Yamato/Hinata and Helios/Selene.

In which Yamato+ and Helios+mix provide more beneficial skills.

Yamato+ being a near perfect Blademaster set, with the only down of having combo rate (which shouldnt be too much of a problem). It has Focus (which isnt a beneficial skill only for SnS and Lance) It has Razor Sharp (longer lasting sharpness) and Rec Speed +2 (good for healing, and may prevent some deaths) Not to mention Yamato+ has a wide range of slots for customizing.

Helios... Read above posts.

But basically people say Alatreon armour sucks, because it's the "end-game armour" and yet it's skills are just so-so. Awaken isn't that amazing and only a few weapons are okay with it, also the fact that Lagi+ Awaken Set would be superior =/.

Evade Dist up can be found in Bari+ and Eva Dist isn't all that great too, and sometimes it messes up your natural dodging reaction.

Blightproof.... basically this is the skill, where you spend hours to get, getting hit by monsters after grueling battles. You finally get Alatreon armour right? Now we get BLIGHTPROOF! Now how do we activate it? oh okay we have to get hit by elemental attacks alright! Not to mention I get a bit more damage due to my weaknesses! alright! *gets hit* It's okay, we have blightproof! WHAT'S THIS GIGGI? NO PROBLEM... WTF I STILL GET POISONED D: yes cuz Poison isn't counted as a blight D:....

^My thoughts on Ala armour. Take it as you will xD

MY GOOD THOUGHTS ON IT.

I like alatreon armour both the BM and Gunner. Gunner is a fun elemental set, and it is quite alright.

Blademaster set is just fun to use when I'm bored, but if i'm serious in killing something, I wont use it. It's more of a novelty set more than function use. Yes, it is totally useable and yes it can kill monsters. But than again Chakra Armour can do the same (which is my favorite "endgame" set). So all in all, IMO it isn't a sucky armour, its fine, but the fact is there are "better" armour sets out there. I prefer mixing myself =P

First off, there aren't any armors, skills, weapons, etc. that suck. What people mean when they say that is that they are not the most effective thing you should be using. Ala armor is just less effective at being a good blademaster armor as you don't have any abilities that effectively help you do anything better (Some can make an argument for Evade Distance).

When you are talking about blademaster sets you typically want an armor with skills that will boost your weapons effectiveness or damage output. That is why Helios is considered to be the best. It is highly customizable and contains the best offensive boost skill in the game (Sharpness +1).

Here are helios combos that I currently use just to show you how customizable this set is:

Great Sword Sets
Sharpness +1, Critical Draw, HGE, Tremor Res
Sharpness +1, Critical Draw, Punish Draw, Earplugs

LS Set
Sharpness +1, Evade Up, Evasion +1

Hammer Sets
Sharpness +1, Earplugs, Focus, Evasion +1
Sharpness +1, HGE, Focus, Heat Cancel (Lo)

Lance Sets
Sharpness +1, Guard +2, Evasion +1
Sharpness +1, Adrenaline +2, Attack Up (L)

Status Set
Sharpness +1, Status Attack Up, HGE, Trapmaster

All have Sharpness +1 due to it giving a significant boost to your weapons damage as most weapons go up a sharpness level using this skill. Here's the damage mulitpliers by sharpness level:

Edit caught by win32:

Raw damage:
Red: 0.50
Orange: 0.75
Yellow: 1.00
Green: 1.05
Blue: 1.20
White: 1.32
Purple: 1.50

The difference is rather staggering.

Hope this answers your question with some in-depth detail.

Rene, you've taken the sharpness modifier for elemental damage :D
Raw damage:
Red: 0.50
Orange: 0.75
Yellow: 1.00
Green: 1.05
Blue: 1.20
White: 1.32
Purple: 1.50

So yeah, sharpness+1 makes a big difference when it comes to white and purple.

Personally I think it's an ok set but I think if you have bnahabra+ legs and jhen+ waist you automatically get razor sharp, the rest is up to you. Maybe Helios on the others to try to get earplugs and sharpness +1?

Can you get Sharpness +1 and Razorsharp together without the use of a tali? I've been trying, but haven't come up with a combination that works.

IIRC you need to push everything to the limit, just to get those two together. The 4 points you get from a tali are definitely dealbreaking, because they don't kick at the points of the other skill.

Its skills are just awful

Blightproof: eat dem berries. No point at all. No blights matter much anyways save dragon
Awaken: lawl skill all around
evade up: Makes it harder for monsters to hit you. Only good skill on the whole set
Rec Down: Self explanatory

8 slots doesn't cover for it's massive shortcomings. I mean sure if purple sharpness didn't exist this set might be viable but just ew. far too many better cheaper options

I use escadora for fun on a few monsters...
because I like to use Sinister Saints on Gigginox and Barioth.

I gemmed mine this way. So how can it be that bad if I had spare mats to make it and wanted to use an awaken wep?

http://divinewh.im/s/3.1S.1N_1j.1S_1p.1S_1i_1o.1S_1m_o.1F.j.1N

I know its not the best, but you dont always have to use the best equip to have fun.

I know its not the best, but you dont always have to use the best equip to have fun.

If you want a good set to use awaken weapons with, here's a good one:

Helios+ (Free Element +4)
Helios+
Lagiacrus+ (Free Element +1)
Vangis Coil
Helios+
Any 3 slot Awaken weapon (Free Element +4)
Talisman Hearing +3 (Free Element +1)

Skills: Sharpness +1, Awaken, HGE

If you don't have the tali, then use any one slot or free element tali, you'll get earplugs rather than HGE. This is what I use for Iron Devil swapping out the hearing tali for a trapmaster +10 one slot when I don't need HGE.

Mind's eye isn't that helpfull, your better of slapping the Grace earring on instead,

I use escadora for awaken on Diablos and other Ice-weak monsters,
I just use the full set and have the normal skills and anti theft and evasion+2 and no negatives.

...and it looks badass...

I soloed ala with iron impact thanks to mind's eye tho.
also saves you from using whetstones mid-fight on other monsters.
anyway the grace earring is a good option too
