Subject: Where did the time go? Fri Aug 03, 2012 5:38 pm
Looks like I'm already at the end of the village elder quests. All I need to do now is just go back through and finish them all. After that, perhaps even before that, it's off to the Guild Hall. But what about Nekoht? That damn felyne still won't let me take on any quests.
Nevermind, I was over-looking things.

Shen Gao Ren and Lao-Shan Lung, if I recall correctly. Would that be the two urgents?
I'm not at them yet as I've been farming Azure Rathalos.

Ahhh, yes. Shen Gao Ren and Hypnocatrice, there you go.
Also, as fate would have it, I can't even move on to them yet because Azure Rathalos decided that it would be funny not to give me the final material needed to finish off my Soul set. :c

FYI if you haven't already, take a Smolder Dragonsword (lao shan sword) to the sleep bird....they are so so to Dragon element and LS just WRECKS their day once you get spirit combos going.

Unfortunately, I can't even fight Lao Shan Lung, nor can I defeat Shen Gaoren. I was hoping that at this point, since Devil Slicer is /not/ coming easy, I could just use Tiger Agito to wail on that sucker.
As for the Hypnocatrice, I'm going to assume it's a lot like Gypceros, in which case, it'll be an easy kill that comes rather quickly. With or without dragon element.

For Shen Gaoren, make the Gunhammer line of fire element hammers, yes raw is key for a hammer but Shen possesses a HUGE weakness to Fire element, between the hammers natural high raw, its sharpness, and it's fire element (and the fact that its final upgrade is pretty much the BEST anti-khezu / anti-gaoren hammer in the game) it's worth going for.
Oh and just pick a leg and sit on it. Wait until it turns red twice (first dull, then bright) then move to the next leg. When he crashes down go hammer him in his dumb crab face (or if you are still having problems repelling / killing to complete a quest his next leg) and just keep it up. Before you know it Gaoren will be repelled / killed.

Also...in preparation for Lao Shan make the full set of Diablos D (rare 4 aka green name) armor.
The full set has no negatives, gives wind res and reduces the rate at which sharpness decreases. Combine this with a pure raw hammer ideally and you can just sit on Lao Shans belly (his ultimate weak spot) the ENTIRE fight, including all the areas before he reaches area 5. The only time you don't do this is when you are doing the anti dragon bombs on his back then carving before you explode off from the bombs.
Pretty much watch and obey this video:

The best I can do is Dead Revolver as far as the Gunhammer goes, and even then, getting two Firewyvern Marrow's will be difficult work. It'll be worth it, but I'm not sure how to increase the chances past capping. And I DO NOT cap monsters on MHFU; it's way too hard to do for some stupid reason.

In regards to your difficulty with Shen Gao...
You like to use LongSwords, yes? What I usually do is Downslash, Poke, UpSwipe (make sure he is facing away from you, so you don't get stepped on when his leg moves). By the time you get these three attacks done (possibly only the first two, depending on long it took you to reach the target leg), that leg will take a step forward, so roll after it. If timed properly (wait for it to land instead of rolling after it as soon as it raises off the ground), you will avoid the earthquake (Blango armor has QuakeProof, but it isn't neccessary) & be able to attack it again.
Repeat this process until he falls down, then wail on his face (you should definitely have a full Spirit Bar at this point), until he gets up. Then start the process all over again. I was able to solo kill on all ranks using this method. Only had to use a few Mega Potions if I got too carried away with attacks (i.e. Not rolling after the target leg in time, & thus getting stepped on by the leg behind me).
Remember that you can mix in regular attacks during a Spirit Combo, for additional damage.

Evidently, the only viable longsword that I currently have access to would be the True Devil Slicer, however, I am having an extraordinarily hard time trying to get Kirin Thunder Tails for the Devil Slicer itself, so I've resorted to trying the Gunhammer as I was instructed. We'll see how Dead Revolver works out against the big crab mofo, 'cause it even says on the wiki, "Good for taking down your first Shen Gaoren." So here's hoping, eh?
Also, should I superpound the legs, or just go with regular attacks? I'm not sure what to do here, to be honest.

Super pound if chasing after a leg, otherwise just triple pound

Well, good news is that I beat Shen Gaoren. Bad news is that I'm about to take on Lao-Shan Lung with nothing but a Dead Revolver. We'll see how this goes, if I can even figure out how to follow a guide properly.

just obey that Mazeron video, Diablos D is the ultimate set to solo killing a lao shan lung with a melee weapon. However unlike his video feel more than free to upgrade that armor, it will help to use armor spheres to upgrade it for higher rank lao's when you actually do get hit with a tackle or leg kick by accident. less downtime more uptime. Do gem the gear itself how he shows.

Surprisingly, I have the armor at level 1 each piece, no gemming, and I ran into the village Lao-San with a Pink Rathian GS, forgot the name of it already. But um, I just used that how another video showed, and it actually worked out flawlessly. I mean, he was able to kill Ash Lao Shan with what he considered "mediocre equipment", but hey, I still did it.
However, I think I will look into gemming the armor the way the guide showed, and trying to get Armor spheres so I can upgrade it. Should be pretty interesting.
On a side note, I managed to do A Troublesome Pair in 8:30, I think I'm getting better.
