| There's not really much known at the moment.
It's said that the Wii U game will be using Nintendo's online service this time around, though I don't know if that's really true or not... If it is, I guess there'll be cross country play.
Hopefully, the online system of the game isn't going to be some convoluted system to where you have to know someone with a 3DS who shares his/her system data with his/her Wii U in order to play with him/her online... PLEASE NOT THIS.

| It is very likely that servers will be region locked because the game is region locked and they did it with Tri.
It's okay though because online play with anyone more than 2,000kms away from you means horrible connection issues will arise.
Unless they build a whole new server design for Ultimate with 32 hunters per-city, dedicated messaging system whether your online or offline and a friends list with 1,000+ slots. Haha just kidding, this is Capcom.

| Ew have you even tried to play Mario Kart and Kid Icarus with people from the other side of the world? Teleporting everywhere!!
Also those are Nintendo's developed games, not Capcoms.

| I guess that if they are going to make region based serves, they should at least give you the option to change serves so you can hunt with people around the world opposed to around a continent. | |

Also those are Nintendo's developed games, not Capcoms. That has to do with their internet I play in the european tri server every once in a while and I hardly lag all that much. And haruno she lost motivation due to the lack of a western release of monster hunter and the taiwan mhfo servers closing down. There could be more to it but that is all I know Edit: I forgot to add that I am american

| At the moment Nintendo most (MH like online experiance) as far as the way the it should work with the servers will probably be Heroes of Ruin for the 3DS... This game is a pretty good example.. not of a good game but of how well the online runs and works. It has 4 people in a city and you take quests and go out and fight and complete then, it also has full voice chat. I have never had any problems with lag or being disconected from a game even with a slow internet connection.
If whatever they are using for this game is the same system they use for MHU (but on a larger scale) I do not foresee much problems..

| The 3DS is region locked but most of the online games allow you to play with people from different regions, so I don't see what that has to do with anything when it come to being able to ply online between the US and EU in MHU.
Also you have to remember region locking has worked extremely well for Nintendo. The 3DS remains unpacked where the PSv... Well MhfU was taken off of PSN because of it being hacked as well as several game developers halting game productions until Sony came up with a solution.
So like it or not region locking does provide a bit of extra protection with keeping the hacking at a minimum and allows for them to do updates more easily by region to help systems run better.
Smart move overall and likely to be seen on all home consoles that come out after the WiiU.
But as stated region locking in no way prevents the servers from being open between regions, otherwise I couldn't bother you all with my Swapnotes. ;)

| We know now that the WiiU is also region locked, so we can all now safely assume there will indeed be separated regional servers. | |

You did not read the post right above yours at all did you? Unless me meant servers allocated for each region but still able to interact with each other but then yea... Nintendo already has those I believe.

| Nintendo took control of the servers from Capcom. And though Nintendo believs in region locking the consoles due to piracy they are also one of the few game companies that also believe that almost all games should be localized and not restricted to a single region... One of the reasons they are paying so much to all the game companies who decide to develop for their systems. | |
