| ... Oto, I don't like the way you said my name.. I should - you. ;) But keeping on topic. Nibbles.. I mean Nibelsnarf is one of the least liked western names given, here is Capcoms reasoning for it: -------------------------- Like Lagombi, which I wrote about last time, the voracious Nibelsnarf was a difficult name to settle on. We initially wanted a name that’d be loosely related to Gobul, since they have similar characteristics, such as “swimming” through locales and being able to shoot projectiles from their mouths. We thought up some synonyms for “gobble” (everyone knows that Gobul is supposed to be pronounced like “gobble”, right?), and settled on Nibel (“nibble”) as our first choice. We thought it was an ironic name because this monster does anything but nibble at its food! At first, the Monster Hunter team felt it didn’t sound quite right, so we added the word “snarf” at the end, which, for you non-native English speakers out there, is slang for devouring something rapidly. Nibble nibble, snarf snarf! This was something that the team felt was a good fit for the monster, so we went with that. The other name we came up with for this monster was Boccavore, which took the Italian word for mouth and added the –vore suffix to the end, but that name didn’t exactly convey what we wanted it to; it inferred that the monster ate mouths instead of having a gigantic mouth. After talking with our in-house European localization staff – specifically our Italian translators -- we agreed that the Boccavore name sounded a bit odd, and stuck with Nibelsnarf. http://www.capcom-unity.com/reno/blog/2013/01/28/monster-hunter-3-ultimate---localization-notes-part-2What do you all think? Is it a well thought out reason or just... Something they threw on to sound cute that they saw in a MLP episode? | |

Pretty much! MHTri was my first game! My boyfriend got me hooked on this series. He had the first two plus MHFU! Funny thing is, he never knew that fact about Black Diablos either! lol He just played the game and hunted her without bothering to check her gender, lol. :nya: Anyways, I'm looking forward to MH3U! Will finally get to meet Ice Agnaktor!

Anyways, I'm looking forward to MH3U! Will finally get to meet Ice Agnaktor! Lol hope you have fun next MH yeah not a lot of people know or remember that a a black diablos is a female in heat. When I found out I put the game down a burst out laughing. Why? It's clear the Monster Hunter franchiese takes itself as trying to set a realistically possible alternate universe, of course female monsters would go into heat, they have to breed. As for the mere fact that a Black Diablos is a female in heat, it might help them as they might have poor eyesight (which explains their sensitivity to Sonic Bombs) so they need to have more than smell maybe to tell. Also females / mothers are very protective around their young so identifying a Black Diablos as a female lets Hunters know they are in for a brutal fight. Some people just can't handle the concept of sex without laughing like children I swear. =P :nya:

This has not actually been confirmed by Nintendo or Capcom US. This is still a rumor as (though a more recent one) that started at a Spanish even with one of the producers of MH3G/U. What had happened was someone asked about open servers (Not spacifically specifying US/EU) and he answered that the servers would not be open. We already KNow that the western MH3U online will not be able to play with Japan MH3G online.. This is known. We should however have a more clear answer by the end of the day and I will let you all know as soon as I do.. Most likely in a seperate post.

| Boccavore might SOUND nicer, but like they said, it makes it sound like Nibelsnarf eats mouths, which would be gross. Think of it from the perspective of a new player who doesn't know any of these new monsters, which would be the better experience: a) Being told you're going to fight something called a "Nibelsnarf", thinking "Ooh, he sounds adorable!" and then meeting this rampaging uggo, resulting in "THIS ISN'T WHAT I WAS EXPECTING AT ALL OH GOD OH GOD." or b) Being told you're going to fight a "Boccavore", where your first thought would probably be something like "Ew, mouth eater? Sounds gross. *Starts quest* Yep, gross monster is gross". Personally, I'd love to be able to forget everything I know about P3rd's monsters to experience scenario a. | |
