| HI! I've played Tri for quite awhile and just switched to MH3U do to the other servers being killed /mad/ . That being said...
I'm used to the Valkyrie Blade tree and know that it's power and sharpness are great, but the poison aspect only happens once in awhile.
Upon researching the Wyvern's Perch tree I see that it has a vast increase in poison, but the sharpness is lacking, as is the power slightly.
My questions to you are: Does the increased poison really make a difference? and if so does the lack of power/sharpness show?

| No. Wyvern's Perch is terrible GS with low RAW and pathetic sharpness which disqualifies it at the beggining. You shouldn't be using poison GS in the first place, but if you want go for Merak's Asterism. | |

Brünnhilde > Merak's Astersim Brünnhilde has more Poison , more Raw , more Slots Merak's Astersim has better Sharp and CE 30%. 380 Poison > 280 Poison , when you want to inflict poison with GS than fast as possible. 1200 Raw > 1152 Raw. 48 Raw > 30% CE , since you get Crit Down in every GS Armorset. 3 Slots > 1 Slots. The only negative on Brünnhilde is the ok Purple with Sharpness +1 , but GS is not DS in matter of Sharpness.

| When I can't make a decision between 2 equally matched weapons (judging from the comments above though, they aren't exactly equally matched, but hey, I don't even use great-swords) I just choose the one that looks cooler, the system works XD | |

| No sorry but you have it wrong. Always compare weapons WITHOUT skills.
Brünnhilde < Merak's Astersim
1. Poison doesn't matter on GS at all. If it's there it's ok but it's just a bonus lol.
2. Brünnhilde has only access to white sharpness without S+1. Merak's Astersim doesn't need S+1 at all. This is really huge in terms of RAW, so i dunno what you even talking about with this 1200 > 1152 lol look for dmg multipliers for each level of sharpness, the difference is big.
1 slot is enough to get you Challenger+2, rock steady, focus and crit draw. With this set you have max level of sharpness, more raw than Brünnhilde will even have and affinity at 50% on all of the attacks. And yes it matters, CD affects only draw attacks. What about sword slaps, side swings etc. You can't fit in this set S+1 sorry...
Brünnhilde without S+1 is stuck with this pathetic level of white sharpness. Being force to gem this skill to make use of purple is really huge drawback for this GS.
To be perfectly honest Merak's Astersim only advantege comes from natural Sharpness+1. Without it it will be outclassed by most other GS. But well it has it so it's one of the best GS in game. Being free from S+1 chain is really huge.

I still prefer Brünnhilde over Merak's Astersim , since i never use other attacks than Draw attacks and loaded Draw attacks.dunno if you ever see the power of armors like "Quick Sheath , Focus , Crit Draw and Sharp+1".

| Yeah heard of it lolz
Most of the time in the fight i use lv3 charges and if i have opportunity i follow with side swing for reposition and stuff or sword slap for KO on punish draw sets. So lets say 1/3 time in fight i use non draw attacks. I think having them critical is nice addition.

| The Greatsword is too slow to inflict status quickly enough and effectively. Status damage is also inconsistent, and with Greatsword, you want consistent damage which only comes from elemental damage (lv3 charge gets a 300% elemental boost). You do not want to use poison because you will be taking an extremely long time to kill things if you are trying to rely on poison. I suggest you use elemental Greatswords only. | |

This would kind of be why the GS usually has the highest status infliction above most other weapons. As long as I've played MH, i've favored status ailments and I've always handled a GS with relative ease. I've never found an issue with Status inflicting GS' not good enough or ineffectively in the long run of a quest in terms of poison ailment. with the latter of choices, i've only had a Stat-GS for looks and they've always served fine with me.

| Agreed on the reason for the high status damage on them, but even then, elemental damage gains a severe boost, out-damaging status ailments. | |
