I have heard that mh3g's online isn't as massive as tri's online mode. Some of my friends who have mh3g,(since i don't have it)have said that it is a down graded version of tri's online. Is this really true,or is mh3g's online just as good as tri's if not, better? Also, which do you guys prefer better?

The past few months, MH3U servers have been pretty dead. I think this is based on the fact that many people who played Tri, don't have a Wii U. It came out on two platforms, whereas Tri was only out on the Wii. I think that with some price drops for the Wii U more MH fans will get a Wii U. IMO, I think the online is better than Tri. You can play the exact same missions in offline mode, where in Tri you could only do certain mission online. The option to name your room is a big plus for me.

Definitely good points here...
For Tri, the only thing that kept someone who has the game from joining the servers when they were up was whether or not they had Wi-Fi for their Wii, which isn't hard to do, nor is it uncommon. For MH3U, however, the difference is whether or not you have it for 3DS or Wii U, which also means whether or not you can afford a Wii U. Even if going online can be done on the 3DS through a nearby Wii U (from what I've been told), it can be difficult to find someone who has a Wii U, has MH3U, and who is willing to bring you along on the servers with them. As a 3DS owner, I have never been on the servers for this game, though I did enjoy the Tri online, which had me hoping I would be able to do so with MH3U, too.
If the Wii U were to have some price drops, I agree that more MH fans would get it, which would mean the servers would start getting more active. I might even consider getting one myself, which I haven't done 'cause, well, $300 for the system, then buying MH3U, again, doesn't appeal to me when I already have a 3DS and MH3U for that, which altogether cost less than the Wii U alone :/

Don't forget that you can play MH3U online with your 3DS if you have a Wii U. You can download the MH3U Relay Packet Tool and it will connect your 3DS online. Only downside is you cannot create games but you can join!

I didn't know you could go online with a 3DS itself... Only problem is the Wii U part, though. I really need to find a Wii U owner to do this :/

3U also has a big dissadvantage that Tri did not, MH4. Most peple already knew about MH4 before 3U was ever released and while 3U offeres a lot of stuff over Tri and IMO is a far superior gaming experiance than tri overall... It was marketed and revieved (based on the demo) as only a minor upgrade of tri. Both PAiN and Verity have expressed some good possitives and negatives (especially for newcomers to the series) but with long time players and the lack of online for 3U on the 3DS a lot of people were pushed away. And though overall both the 3DS and WiiU versions of 3U had great sales numbers world wide..... A lot of people were already anticipaiting and waiting on MH4 and originally MH4 was to be released in Japan on the same day 3U was going to be released in the west... Luckily both capcom and nintendo saw reason and that this would be a bad idea (and a bit insulting to western players) and delayed MH4 (for several reasons). The sales for 3U were really good and the WiiU sales in the west went up especially in the US diring it's release. However, The more information about MH4 that was released the more sales of 3U dropped and when MH4 did finally release in Japan this September 3U servers here in the west drastically slowed...

I can say this, though I am waiting on MH4 for the 3DS, Paying $300 for a WiiU and $29.99 for a copy of MH3U for the WiiU and transfering the data back and forth from the 3ds to wiiu to play online and on the TV/gamepad and back to the 3DS when out of the house until MH4 comes out is well worth it. Not just for MH3U and online play with others but for the current games out on the wiiu, the eshop games on the wiiu, the classic nintendo games, the games being released and the Gamepad play.

For Monster Hunter (and many other games) the gamepad has been one of the best controllers I have ever used and until you really spend time with it you just don't know what it's like. You may have doubts about it's use with MH but after a while... And even the gamepad only play is quite nice. You can choose to play with the gamepad controlls or set the gamepad on it's stand and use a ProController while you watch TV...

Anyways, even after MH4 comes out (unlike with tri) I can still see myself playing MH3U on the WiiU at home while playing MH4 on the 3DS when I'm not around my WiiU.

That would make sense since most of my friends that own 3u say its dead online, but has better game play than tri. I am experiencing problems with getting a wiiu since it costs 300 dollars and a extra 60 for 3u.I always get a sad feeling whenever I see people play it, i remember the old memories of tri and start to get abit sad. But anyways, I have been hearing that many people aren't getting a wiiu for 3u, because mh3u is for the 3ds and the chance that mh4 might come to the us(i'm pretty sure it will be coming to the us due to its massive sales in japan). Buying the wiiu for 3u while the 3ds has 3u and it has mh4 does seem alil a waste of your money. So, the big question is,will mh fans that don't have the wiiu or the 3ds, either get the wiiu or the 3ds.And thanks for the info guys,I didn't know that you could play 3u on the 3ds online, I just thought you could only play the 3ds with wiiu owners when you are near them.

^I feel sad about not being able to get in on it when people here team up, but I do love hearing about their hunts and thinking back on Tri. We have our good memories, so many of us and Tri cat

I had no idea MH4 had posed such competition to 3U so early... Here I thought the competition was still new, was only just affecting 3U, but this would indeed explain a lot. Then again, me and video game news just never seem to be lined up, especially since I just give up on keeping up with most of it. This site and my college's video game club are my two sources I use and consider reliable, along with TV :/
I honestly really want a Wii U, especially with online for 3U (not so much for this now) and Wind Waker being remade, with that having been I'm pretty sure my first Zelda game I ever played, plus my GameCube favorite... I remember going through that story so many times and still not getting bored of it. Amused my brothers with my shenanigans, too xD
It's that price, though, especially with college and other real life expenses. My parents aren't going to allow me to pay that much for a Wii U, as much as I want one, though I don't want to pay that much for it, either. If MH4's on the 3DS and has online like I've heard, I can keep on waiting for that Wii U price to drop >.>

3U is only $29.99 and is usuallu on sale now for $19.99 and as I said playing MH3U on a large TV or any MH on a large screen is an experiance that no matter how much fun MH4 is is worth playing. Also you have to remember MH4 may still not be here in the West for 3, 6 or another 12 months.

Also $300 for a nexgen console with 1-2 games that has offscreen play, the Miiverse community, the host of games the WiiU finally has and is announceing and the Virtual Console as well as the Linked account for 3DS and WiiU eshop... It's a pretty nice deal!

And yes you can only play 3DS Locally with WiiU owners.. Unless you have the relay packet downloaded and a USB lan Cable for the WiiU (which cost the same as the MH3U game). So you might as well buy the game for the WiiU. Something you can also do is if you have friends over who want to play is you can create a guest account on your WiiU and start a completely new MH3U game (that does not attach or interfear with your game at all) and play on your 3DS 3U while they play on the WiiU 3U and play together and get them interested in the game as well... I have goten lots of people (to include new forum members) interested and to get MH3U on both systems this way.. In fact in my local area we have about 30 or 40 people playing because of this...

So yea.. it's worth it. I also enjoy playing on my WiiU with family and friends. It's a great way to enjoy it together. My mother who's in her 70's now has both a 3DS and WiiU and probably plays both more than I do.

edit: I will add one more thing, I do have to say though i own and have played just about every video game system out there and have my favorite games on each it's been a while sine I have really enjoyed just playing on a system like have with MH on the 3DS and WiiU as well as other games.

But I will also say the same thing I do to everyone. Do research about any system before buying it. find out what it does, what games it has and will have and about the companies history. make the correct choice for you before any puchase. For me if it has MH on it it's the correct chice ;)

Tbh i miss event quests calendar structure from Tri. You had to check calendar at least once a week to see if there's anything new, I remember waiting for High Rank Jhen for weeks. When he finally appeared there were Jhen cities all around servers. And than after week or less, the quest was gone. This kind of "limitation" actually made those quests something "special" and desired. In 3U everything is available without certain time period.

Also the lack of subquests is really discouraging. Quests also seem a bit dull. I remember in Tri 25 Jaggia with spawning 2 Jhos or Jhozilla. There was also this one quest with sharks, in which you had to be naked. If i remember correctly 2 ludroths spawn there also. Fun times.

^Yeah, the calendar thing was fun, I'll admit, but I can also admit that after I finished my armor for the high Jhen, when that quest came up, it was miserable luck for those like myself who didn't want to do that quest anymore, now aiming more for things such as Los rubies or whatever. Yes, I did assist others with it, what with wanting to work on my HR, too, but I practically had to stay offline completely until that quest was gone while one of my siblings tried to get the armor... I got to learn that I'm the most charismatic and liked of my siblings on the servers, it was so bad sometimes ">.>
I still miss subquests. Those allowed for an emergency exit if you were doing poorly or just came for an item in the area, or extra points if you did both the sub and main quest. I'll agree, it makes the quests less interesting, too, to not have them anymore. My first Jho on Tri was one of those Jaggia quest's two spawns, with two really high ranked guys bringing me on my first high rank mission so they could show me Jho and even try to beat them both (gunner ran out of ammo, so they only defeated one). While they did that, I made sure the subquests were done, I believe, unless the three of us did those while waiting for Jho cat

I think its not only the game but the console itself. The Wii U isn't at its prime...yet. With so many games coming for the Wii U its only logical that people will start to buy it, but because there is no must have games the Wii U sales go down, and with the recent release of both the Xbone and the PS4 the Wii U is losing interest. What does this has to do with 3U? Given that not many people has a Wii U then 3U is left ignored. This is the same for the 3DS one which I'm sure is having a worse time with both MH4 and Pokemon XY at the same time, not to mention a lack of online mode. If you have a WiiU, lets face it, you are not going to buy a game that you don't know about. MH is still fresh in the west and people still don't know about its existence. So with so many distractors its only logical that 3U's online is barren. They might catch attention once the WiiU gets out of the ignored corner but even then 3U will face a strong competition.

TLDR: People are playing other games and consoles right now. Pokemon and the Ps4 killed the online.

MH3U is now officially priced at $19.99 at Games stop and the WiiU price has dropped from it's original price of $350 to $300. As the other systems are $400 and $500 I don't think the WiiU will be dropping it's price anytime soon especially as it comes with several games and extras at the $300 price.

Anyways, everyone has made Valid points.. but lets not forget. MH3U has sold Amazingly well in the west on both the 3DS and WiiU overall and Since coming to Nintendo Monster Hunter has become a lot better known here with both Tri and Ultimate introducing more new players to the MH series than the last several PSP titles have in a long time.

The focus now needs to be on Nintendo and Capcom. And them making the decision to keep the games coming.

Especially on Capcoms part.. they have several MH games announced and coming out for several systems and playforms so regardless of it being Nintendo, Sony,PC .. heck I'd take the Commodore 64.. Just as long as they start localizing MH games more often.

Might start telling some 3DS friends at club tonight that the 3U price went down... See if I can make some hunters out of them >.>
With those other systems being so high in price, no wonder a drop is unlikely; it has the best chance still due to its lower price, along with the games and extras it has with it.

No argument here on that. With just my household, Tri got in four new fans of their games, myself and my three siblings, with three of us continuing on to buy 3U. The younger brother who got 3U also got more game systems so he could then buy more MH games, older ones that he could get at GameStop. With the price drop, perhaps the fourth will get 3U soon >.>
Hopefully the localization of coming MH games will continue to happen...

Yeah, my brother and I got into the series after starting with Tri. I few of my other siblings will watch us from time to time, but other than that, most of them never got into it. When MH3U came out, I got the Wii U version, and he got the 3DS version. Now if only I could get two other siblings of mine to get the 3DS and MH3U for it, and we could start having allot of fun together. I even have 7 other siblings to choose from, surely two of them want to get the 3DS and MH3U...
