Seems to me like G-rank monsters ( besides things like G. Ceadeus, G. Jaggi and Volvidon, being the only G-rank's I've fought so far besides P. Rathian ) have exceptionally tough parts. I have Part Breaker along with Sharpness+1, and I just finished killing P. Rathian. The whole time I was hammering her tail with SA Sword mode and even a couple of elemental discharges. I even got her tail to explode a couple of times thanks to slime ( using Dios Axe+ ). For some odd reason, it wouldn't come off. What's up with that?

Explosions wouldn't help with cutting off tails, anyways. It takes cut damage for stuff like tails to break, not just damage.
The discharge iirc in 3 Ultimate has no cut damage.

What Axe are you using?

Also, for G rank, it is ideal to attack the end of the tail. The big fat part of Rathian and Rathalos' tail take in the most damage. the long part of the tail is tougher.

Ooh, alright. I was under the impression that ALL damage contributed ( as I thought it always did, with the exclusion of hammers ). Makes sense, though. And no, the ele discharge only has cut during the animation where it charges up, the actual discharge is just a blunt + explosion that I've seen.

I'm using the Dios Axe+ currently, as I'm not too sure about any Dragon element SA I can get currently. Stygian Zinogre, maybe?

Once you can, get the Ceadeus Swax. It's incredibly powerful with it's "Power Phial" and it's raw damage. It has a bit of water element, but it's not that much, so you can still use it against pretty much any monster you want.
It is just so awesome and powerful.

I was working on it for a little bit, though I'm not sure... Ah, I need the Lagiacrus mantle for it. Unfortunately, I'm not rank 7 yet, and the thing bogging me down is the inevitable battle with the double Brach's.

I am currently working toward the Kelbi bow so that I can just use that to cheap out Super Ivory and get the mantle that way.

That's a good choice. I love the Kelbi Bow. It can be allot of fun against quite a few monsters. What set are you going for with it?
I'd personally recommend a set with Awaken (Duh), Focus (A must have skill with the Kelbi Bow. For me at least), Bombardier (It's optional, but I find it helps with the explosions considerably, so I always go for it), Evasion +1 or 2 (Even though the bow doesn't get hit that much, I find that evasion is still a pretty handy skill to have, allowing me to go an entire quest without getting hit. Plus with the set I use, evasion is the best skill I have room for), and I also have Tenderizer just because of the set I use.

The set that I use is just the complete Lagiacrus X armor gemmed with those skills I just mentioned. You'll still need to be able to fight 7* monsters for those parts, but you'll need G Rank Black Diablos parts for the Kelbi Bow anyway.

Frankly, I don't even know if I'm going to bother with MH3U anymore. I got to G-rank, that was an accomplishment in itself. It's getting boring now, always playing by myself and never really making progress. And to be honest, I absolutely despise Nibelsnarf, so I'm not up for fighting G-rank... that.
