| Welcome to the Monster Hunter World.
If you are just starting, and learning the game, I would suggest you go for skills that increase your Health pool, and maybe offer some "Protection" skill (Divine Blessing which reduces the damage of some hits by 75%).
As for armor sets themselves. For Hammer, start out with Bone Armor. Easy to make, since you can get bones anywhere. You will get KO King, which makes monsters KO quicker when you smack them upside the head.
For Lance, Guard up Skill is good. Allows you to block everything. So go for Alloy Armor set, which comes from getting minerals from the mining points.
Once you have those armor sets made, make sure to increase their defense with armor spheres. Then focus on any other armors you might want.
For LS, you will want to get focus as soon as possible. Makes it easier to fill the spirit gauges, which will make it easier to keep up sharpness and do damage.
Again, welcome to Monster Hunter.

| Alloy armor is a pretty good low rank set, and it has the skill Speed Sharpening. It also has Wind Proof "Low" (Which isn't that good early on, but can fairly useful against later monsters.). And it also has the skill Critical Eye +1. That skill increases your affinity by 10%, which means your weapon may go from having a 0% for a critical hit (Which deals x1.25 damage) to having a 10% chance. If you can get the decorations and a good enough talisman, you'll be able to gem in the skill Critical Eye +2 (Which does 20% affinity. The last one, Critical Eye +3, does 30% affinity.). | |

Sharp +1 (Visibly increases sharpness) can't be gained until you reach end of high rank or G rank, so do not even bother for it early on. Sharpness (retains sharpness longer) can be gained, but you will benefit most from speed sharpening. So like has been said before, Alloy will probably your best friend early on. Might I suggest you try to get good at 1 weapon early on. You can still switch amonst the weapons every now and then, but if you have one weapon that you can get comfortable in, the game will not feel as frustrating. This is a very steep learning curve game, and once you get past those initial frustration barriers, it is a very enjoyable venture.

I've always thought Health skill was a waste of time, given that you can just eat or use a max potion instead. This, so much this. Food should be pretty much default for 140 or 150 Health and 125 or 150 Stamina. If you want skills to help buffer you, get Defense Up, Divine Blessing, possibly Evasion +1, etc.

(I use hammer, LS, and lance) To be honest, just make Jaggi armor at the start. The basic Jaggi set will net you Attack Up S, Gourmand (increases stamina gained from eating), and Halve Stun. With some gemming you can easily get Attack Up M and/or Negate Stun. Equip your Auto-Guard talisman when using the lance for a 4th skill. The first decent chance to make an armor combo comes at 5 stars when you encounter the Volvidon. With some clever combination you can get Stun, Evasion, and Attack Up skills activated, which are all really useful; Blademaster Set - Without Talisman or Weapon Jaggi Cap (gunner) (O) - Evasion +1 Volvidon Chest (O) - Evasion +1 (doubled - Torso Up) Jaggi Arms (O) - Evasion +1 Jaggo Waist Alloy Greaves (torso up) Skills Activated; - Attack Up S (+13) - Evasion +1 (+10) Unactivated; - Gluttony +8 - Stun +6 With weapon/talisman slots - With 1 slot you can activate Gourmand, with 2 slots you can activate that or Halve Stun, with 3 slots you can activate both (or go with Gourmand and Attack Up M if you have a two slot weapon/talisman) If you have a talisman with a complimentary skill, then more's the better.
