PostA Hello from a Newcomer to Monster Hunter

As the tittle suggest, I just get my copy of MH3 two months ago so I guess I'm what you call a noob. I've been lurking on this forum for a few weeks but I just created my user now. I'm still in the stage where I need to farm extensively in MH3, but I essentially have infinite amount of anything that is not Monster Materials and Pelagicite Ores. Call me stupid or something, but I refuses to part with my Rathian armor (except when I'm on gathering quest). I still have a lot to learn about MH, so I hope all you guys can help me with that.

My interest outside of MH? Probably my studies... I think.

Well, welcome to the forums! As a member anyway. And best of luck with your farming, you'll need it.

Welcome to the forums. Now explain WHY exactly you like ian armour, or gtfo.

Jk, but seriously, why stick with the single 1 most hated armour?

Funny story that... I actually been aiming for Rathalos or Lagiacrus set 'cause I don't like the Rathian set's look. BUT I never get the plates for it. Which is surprising because I get 2x Rathian Plates the first time I cleared the "Dragon Lady" quest and I've been killing Rathalos and Lagiacrus for 11 and 15 times respectively. Similarly for Rath Talon, as I only ever saw 4 of them during all my play time (online and offline). I don't play obsessively, but It's kind of weird that I have so much Rathian plates that I could actually sell them to help cover the cost of making the Acrus Lance.

Anyway, I've jammed Health +50, Earplugs, Halve Stun, and Fire Res +20 (thanks to a lucky charm). Couple it with the Lance for roars that need HG earplugs or hammer for flying hammers, I'm pretty much set for the entirety of offline and it will last me until High Rank. It is kinda slow at taking down monsters though... Any suggestion for that? Thanks

Well, earplugs aren't that super dooper great on most monsters. You can just roll through the roar, and most monsters with normal roars don't roar often. HGE is so good because monsters like diablos/nox/jho/ala roar quite often. If you lance...earplugs are entirely useless.

Anyhow, halve stun isn't too good, stunning is mostly a problem with thunderblight, and that'll still be annoying. Fire res...is kind of worthless, elemental resistance doesn't seem to do very much. Not bad, but you're not benefitting much at all. Health+50 will make it able to eat different food...but that can be solved with nutrients/demondrugs/max potions whatever. So basically, while having ian isn't going to hurt you...you're just better off with ANY other armour (honestly even leather is better at some point.)

@Win32error
Thanks for the tip. I am currently farming up on Lagiacrus and ores for clearing diablos offline. I'll tell you when I get it.

It's just I view the time when monster roar (during and before) as a time to get free attacks (Pretty much how I view the Rath's firebreath too). So earplugs helped me to keep poking the monster without countering (I'm still practicing that because I'm a former SA user).
