| So what's the best way to approach the game, say if you wanted to grind quickly to a high Hunter Rank?
What's a good low rank set and what sort of quest should you be focusing to get the most gear/money.
I've always been half hearted my focus and I usually end up with unfinished sets and dumb weapon choices.
I guess upgrading the farm to max is the first thing you should aim for right?

| Hmm... Not too sure, but hey, I say hunting monsters is the bestest (not a real word) way to do it.
And yeah imo, upgrading your farm is a nice idea, since it can give you quite a bit of materials.
Until this game is out and I'm playing it like there's no tomorrow, there's really not much I can say about quick rank increases.

| I can't help you in the quest department: That'll have to wait until the game actually comes out and we see for ourselves. As for armor, you might want to check out http://mhag.info/mhtrig/main.htm and fiddle around.

| There's lots of sweet end game armor sets, but what armor set should you get ASAP? Quro? Jaggi? Barroth? I dunno! | |

| I suggest you grind for the best LR (low rank) armour then farm for Honey to mix with your regular Potions for Mega Potions. Then definitely cook Well-Done Podcast Steaks offline (same for farming Honey). Once you're set with your LR equipment, I suggest that if the online services have that cooking option and Felyne Skills, always aim for Felyne Exchange to bump up to amount of HRP (hunter rank points) you get per quest.
If these features are present then you may follow what I said if you find it helpful.

| (This was originally an edit of my earlier post, decided to make it it's own post.)
It looks like the first two "Big Monster" armor sets you'll be able to get are Jaggi's and Aoshira's. Jaggi gives you AuS, Halve Stun, and Gourmand. Aoshira will give you DuS, Recovery Up, Anti-theft, and Double Paralysis. Both sound like good starting candidates. (both blademaster and gunner versions of the armor sets give the same skills, btw)

| Why would you want to rush through the game? I say beat everything offline. Learn what you can there, maybe do the full 3DS stuff than transfer your character to the WiiU and join friends online with all the knowledge you've gained by actually taking the time and learning how to collect monster guts before going online. | |

| Uh, well I've already played through Mon Hun on PS2 and Wii so I sort of want to get to the end game as fast as possible. Also I have limited time these days. =( | |

Yes, that is what you start out with.

| Am i really the only one that likes early games as much or more than endgame? I think the more "make do with what you got" feeling is far more satisfying when killing monsters than when it becomes a routine.
Really what IS so special about the endgame? (aside from using overpowered gear to joke around with LR monsters)

| Personally I'm with ya, Win32. To me it's the journey, not the end or the start. But to each his own. If he wants to rush to endgame, why not? As for me, I'm going to go slowly, and get everything as it becomes available to me. This time, I'm really getting all weapons and armors! | |

| I guess you've never played with friends and rivals! We always try to out pace each other in Monster Hunter like 'Who can get X set the fastest!' or 'I unlocked X first!!'. There's nothing better than showing up with a unexpected full Damascus armor set.
I've got to be the best
That no one ever was
etc etc
So far I figured when playing low rank I should just get an Alloy set and max it out till I unlock high rank. From there on in I can focus on getting the Pirate set (+Fate, +Carves, +Tranq) which will speed up my game with all the extra drops.
G rank looks really difficult though. I'll need to organize a good end game set.
Does Ultimate let you over forge armor sets? If so how high? Can you over forge a low rank set all the way to G rank?

| Isn't monster hunter one of those games that's purely based on cooperation, not competition? There's plenty of games where being "the best" has it's uses, but MH is all about killing stuff together isn't it? Rushing through the early stages of the game will make it pretty boring to come back to when you've gone all the way to the endgame, so you'd be cutting into the fun.
To each his own i guess. | |

| I once played MH to see which one of a few friends of mine would be the quickest with something. I guess that's considered a challenge, but for me it only became insanely tedious and frustrating when I wouldn't get the things I wanted after a hunt, so really... I wouldn't suggest rushing through the game just to beat a rival or something. At least, I couldn't enjoy Tri like that at all. So instead, I just took it easy. And that made it so much better. So just take your time, do what you feel like and really, don't rush yourself.
But then again, that is my opinion. People should just do what they feel like, but I believe MH will be enjoyed the most like this. Like anduin55 said, it's the journey that matters.

Yes, but there is some competition moments. (Like which group beats an arena quest faster) I've known a few people see if they could get to a certain hunter rank before their friends. They're friendly little competitions, really.

| For the "best low rank armour to get first" question, I'd say it'd have to be rheno.
It's skills complement quite a few different weapons, so you can pick any of the ones you like most. Not to mention its not even a large monster, so it should be very easy to obtain. On top of all that, I'm pretty sure rheno armour had high defence in tri, more then the jaggi armour.
It's the first one I'm going to try and get in my game, and if I gem it for speed sharpening and keep upgrading it with all my armour charms it should be able to carry me through to + rank, or at least pretty close to it.
But thats just my personal battle plan, you should take a look at the different armour skills and find the one you like most. /yes/

If you were going to play specifically with a gun lance Rheno is a no-brainer. But I'm more of a sword and shield/hammer guy so I'm more inclined to get Alloy and totally max it out. It's base skills are - Wind Res - Speed Sharpening - Expert +1 It only has 3 slots but once you get an extra 2 slot you could easily fit in a 4th skill like - Perception - Trap Master - Bomb Boost - Lasting Power - Swimming - Meat Lover All sets I make need to have at least 5 spare slots so as to get one of these skills, they're extremely useful depending on what you're doing in a quest and you can easily swap them out.

KO is still viable with sns/hammer. But the other two not so much, haha. :P

It is. OP is completely ignoring that I think. There's zero point in rushing to any game's end game.
Especially for the console(s) that has no trophies/achievements (which are a giant pathetic joke IMO anywayz.)

| Ehh don't strive to reach that number learn to worl with your teamates rank will come over time. 999 shouldn't be your main gial or you will be a speedrunner/cluster fanatic that will never truly reach their true potental. I am not saying don't go for it but be patient the time spent with friends will last you a lifetime rank comes and gos so that should not be your main concern. | |
