Anyone know if this game is going to be any good or if they're just going to remove half the content and gameplay to fit it on a handheld system like with most games? I don't want to spend good money on a game and fin out it's a piece of junk.

It is a monster hunter game with even more content and gameplay than tri and unite.

besides, MHFU was on a handheld and it was pretty good.

Of course is going to be worth it! (if the japanese decide that the rest of the world can play it

"Worth" is an individual determination.

In all things it is determined by how much you care about it. For me it's an MH game so it's worth it. MH4 will be introducing a lot of new things that have not been in an MH game before. Do not exspect it to be Tri, MHFU or a previous game.. It will not be and if that is what you are exspecting that.. not it probably wont be "worth it" for you. But if you are exspecting a Monster Hunter experiance that add new challenges and some new styles of game play... Then yea.. It just might be "Worth it".

Heh, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm only expecting around 20-25 monsters, unless you have a source for that info Lalo?

I'm only expecting around 20-25 monsters, unless you have a source for that info Lalo?

24 have been revealed in just the Trailers and videos for it alone.

They are:

Kechawacha, Goa Magara, Melynx, Velociprey, Genprey, Jaggi, Aptonoth, Kelbi, Gargwa, Bnahabra, Zuwaroposu, Rhenoplos, Altaroth, Velocidrome, Great Jaggi, Rathalos, Rathian, Tigrex , Yian Kut-Ku, Gypceros, un-named new Great Desert monster, Tetsukabura, Nerusukyura, and a Neopteron/Carapaceon.

other already confirmed are:

Rathalos, Rathian and Yian Kut-Ku.

So.. there's at least 27.. 2 more than your 25...

and we know that all 12 of the base MH weapons and the 2 new weapons are in it.. along with the cats and their Tanks... And the Multiple cities and once you have gone through all the cities with the Caravan you can choose a "Base City" to hunt out of.

It has also been confirmed to have Online with online Chat function (most likely voice from what has been stated) with Friends, like in MH3 and (possibly MH3U wiiu in the west) ..

Sooooo, I'm going with Lalo on this one.. Except the whole G rank thing which makes no sense at all??

And seeing as Lalo also said that he wasn't expecting as many monsters as a G series, by "going with Lalo on this one" you're also going with me, seeing as that's the exact same point I was making.

Lalo wrote:

The new weapons and gameplay look nice, but I'm just thinking it's going to be a repeat of tri. Even though they put all this great stuff in the game, it'll still just be fighting the same few monsters over and over again. Maybe they'll surprise me and actually put a subspecies or two in this one.

But you also have to include that this game will be more story-like and you have different cities to travel to. Also, if the dragonship was already shown, I don't doubt that jhen and jhen subespecies are in this game, 29 monsters so far

I fixed my post.. Missed that last part... Yea.. less monsters than in a G rank game...

Lalo... your drowning in a Fanta Sea ;) <--- private joke

Kaz.. You also have to remember this is actually the 2nd MH game on the 3DFS not the first.. though Tri was the 2nd also technically speaking they have already (In japan) shown off a lot for MH4 overall compared to what they did with tri and putting less in a 2nd game on a system would not make much since as Tri did still have more in it than MHG on the Wii in Japan.

Also.. Tri, though having a lot less than game slike MHFU was actually quite a huge success overall and did very well for bringing in a lot of people to the MH series.. which was the whole point of the game in the first place. MH4 is not trying to do that with the Series or with the 3ds.. MH3g(3U) is and did do that.

MH4 is a maintaining and a refresher type game, it's main focus in to up what the monster hunter series is, can do and to keep it fresh and new... reducing anything will detract from that.. Capcom has pretty much said that recently and has pointed that factout in delaying the game to "improve" it before release graphically and in other gameplay areas that they feel it lacked in.

Yeah, 29 including these:Melynx, Velociprey, Genprey, Jaggi, Aptonoth, Kelbi, Gargwa, Bnahabra, Zuwaroposu, Rhenoplos, Altaroth. I'm talking about big monsters, you actually get quests and rewards to fight, I'm not so concerned about them leaving out the dreaded kelbi.

Regardless, I still think there won't be as many monsters in the game as any G game, and that there will be 3 or 4 different full priced versions of these games periodically adding more monsters and subspecies. They dropped 40 monsters from MHFU to tri, and then made 3 more versions of the same game adding more than 25 new monsters in the process, and they've been using that practice with all the games, so excuse me if I don't expect anything different with this new release.

Also as neat as all that story and city stuff sounds, Monster Hunter isn't a game you're supposed to just play, beat, and then be done with, so if I'm going to end up playing it for an extended period of time, I don't want to be fighting the same 20 (or 29 including the small monsters apparently) over and over again until the next game is released, so that I can fight those monsters again, with 7 or 8 new monsters added to the roster.

@dcj How exactly does Tri trying to appeal to a wider audience warrant dropping the (large)monster roster two thirds?

Did you seriously just ask that? Wow, it must be nice having zero standards. Yes, I like tri, but I also enjoyed the iOs game, are you implying that because I enjoyed that, that I should be fine if every other MH release was just another iOs app?

Seeing as you're resorting to asking comical questions such as that, I'm just going to chalk you up as a fanboy and move on.

Why would the OP suggest they are just stripping the games of content for portable devices?

Mh3U has a version for 3DS and as far as I know (other than frontier) it's the largest MH game yet, and MHFU has a shit ton of stuff too.

Last time they made a console game (tri) it was a big disappointment to fans of the older games because of how it was "lacking in content". But to be fair, MHFU contained pretty much all of the content from MH1, MHG, MHF1, MH2, and MHF2.

Hmmm let's see... I'm this forums owner.... I think the fanboy status is thurowly established. ;)

Point is you seem to be complaining even though its still s good game and about a game that isn't even released yet. MH has always had a history of making multiple games and adding slightly extra content to each. Heck EVERY SINGLE CAPCOM GAME BASICALLY DOES THAT! If you already know or think that will happen with MH4 wait until it is released to pass any judgement on it and then decide if its something worth getting for you or not. But until then just hope Capcom Japan just decides to grant a western release to the title.

Thurowly.. I don't understand this word. Also how does that establish anything? Is that your admittance to your fanboyism or your defense?

And yeah, I am complaining about a game I enjoy, it's called criticism, and nothing is perfect, so I'm not going to praise it as so even if I enjoyed it. Also I know Capcom does that with every game, especially Monster Hunter, so does that mean I should just lay back and accept it? Nah. It's a shady practice, and basically proves my point that this game is only going to be about 50% of what it was planned to be.

Anyways you seem to have gotten lost on what your argument is even about. Try to collect your thoughts and come back when you know the point you're trying to make.

^My "argument" is no matter how much you get upset about it or not they will still probably do it so the best thing to do is hope that at least "one" of those versions gets a western release. Because after all, what does it matter how many time they remake MH4 if only one or no versions gets a western release? And regardless no one says you have to buy each one.

If it's anything like KIU's online capability ( which clearly it's going to be above & beyond ) that'll be very enjoyable in itself.

My first encounter with the Monster Hunter franchise was a demo of MH1 that came along with my copy of Devil May Cry 3. As I started it, I felt immediately hook, but the first thing I noticed was that it was ment to play online with other people. But for years I only rememberd the demo as something I believed was the ultimate game :')

Not until Monster Hunter Freedom 2, I could finally enjoy the game! And it became even funnier when I played 3 player local for the first time. Right there and then I felt the urge to play MH online, with other people! Worth to mention is that I was kind of disapointed that the "online guild hall" wasn't online at all (is this pun?). So when I heard the even more "disapointing" news, that Capcom decided to develop Monster Hunter Tri for Wii instead of Ps3 I still had hope.

But! The best aspect of Monster Hunter going to a stationary system again was the online multiplayer. I managed to afford a Wii, MHTri and a CCpro about 6-9 months after the release and I got really psyched about the game. Even though my only real MH experience was from MHF2 and MHFU, with maybe 100-150h total of gameplay, I felt really disapointed of how Nerfed MHTri was compared to the psp gaems.

Sure, Tri had underwater fighting.. But that's not enough when you drop several weapon classes. Bow, Gunlance, Hunting Horn and Dual Blades. Basically the 4 most awesome weapons in the game, and that said by a GS-kinda-guy. Also, Tri lacked serious amount of monsters. I don't recal the species name now, but the kind of monsters that the big Boar is and the Gongalala from MHF2/U. These didn't exist, which was kind of a bummer.

You see, one of the things I later loved with P3rd is that it has so many species in it, and the looking back at Tri really felt "meh".

TL;DR;

Monster Hunter has always deliverd best for hand held consoles, with more monster and more weapons. If you add the fact that MH4 will have real online multiplayer function like for Tri, this game will undoubtly be the best game in the franchise when it launches.
