PostShin Megami Tensei IV

Already there has been Survivor and Summoner on the 3DS.. In just a few weeks or so Shin Megami Tensei IV will also be released.

Persona IV-Golden (a re-release of the original) was released not that long ago as well... but so far it's appearing that the new original story of SMTIV is the favored of all the recent releases..

with Persona IV golden selling 137,076 units in Japan the opening week and SMTIV selling 188,562 copies in it's opening week... So far reviews have been higher in SMTIV as well...

So if you liked Persona 4 or any other SMT game... This is looking to be one you don't want to miss..

As well it is also rumored (and based on current videos) SMTIV will be the game crossed over with Fire Emblem: Awakening in the upcoming WiiU game "SMT vs FE".

Anyone else fans of the Shin Megami series and planning on picking this one up?

Err, hype is one of the worst reasons to pick up a game. Read some reviews, watch some gameplay, and play the demo if available. That's the way to decide if you want a game or not.

Sales mean nothing. If they did, I'd be buying Call of Duty and Fifa every year, with buyer's remorse every year.

Monster Hunter Roik?

Some games are worth the hype, I've never been disapointed in a SMT game nore a Tales game. It's quality that you come to exspect even with titles that are remade as the SMT games have been for the last several games.

SMTIV is the first new one in a while and has recieved high reviews already.

i'd like to get p4g for my brothers psvita since the original was so good, but they cancelled shipping it to my country (maybe because of the mature themes and such) and i dont really see anything better than persona in the smt series, since as far as i've seen, even the 'graphics' and battle mechs are better in persona. i might look into the 3ds ones if they sell them here-.-' ...

^ They've already said that SMTIV is a step up from Persona4 gameplay and story wise.

Looks from what I've seen as well maybe not full "graphics" just depends on your tastes.. So far the more I read and hear about it the better it looks to me.

But be warned, it's not an easy game and does have very mature themes in it. A few things about it.. Even the easy mode is very challenging, in fact the only way to actually have a true easy mode in the game is to downloade the $2.50 DLC content that launches with the game and use it to level your characters at the start... Atlus added this to allow people to speed through the game with little or no difficulty as the game is very challenging even on easy mode and to also allow you to level up a bit if you get to a boss that you just can't beat on your own.

Also.. The whole game is basically cosequence based.. your decisions determin who your allies, main bad guy and so on are going to be.. Basically the people you interact with depending on how you treat them will either becom you best friends and lovers or your rivals... in fact you could becom very fond of a character, get really close to them and end up having them stab you in the back because of poor decision making skills in game and they remember EVERYTHING you do.. doth NPC's (monsters/characters) and player characters.

As far as better than persona in the SMT series...??

Also remember though they spent a lot of time on SMYIV and it's a completely new game unlike any of the current 3ds shin games or persona 4 golden which was originally released on the PS2.. Also, if you do plan on getting the 3ds SMT4 and the other 2 SMT 3ds games be aware that they are also planning on releaseing the original SMT on the 3DS virtual console as well later this year and a new Persona Game on the 3ds as well that is rumored to include persona4 as well.

Nintendo and Atlus just announced an AMAZING incentive to for SMTiv to also promote the upcoming SMT/FE crossover game for the WiiU:

http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/18739/20130709/shin-megami-tensei-4-release-date-smt.htm

Basically if you already own or get Fire Emblem: Awakening and get SMT4 as well and register both on club nintendo before August... They will give you $30 in eShop credit to get games or dlc content of your choice.... an amazing deal when you consider all the free stuff nintendo has already given out and all the extral DLC both FE:A and SMTiv has to offer.

i didnt quite understand the logical marketing move in including p4 in the p5's 3ds release so i'll just take no risk and buy it for vita

about the difficulty, i expect a smt game to be hard, since supposedly persona is a game in which revives are limited or unexistent, depending on difficulty, so it really doesnt bother me that much

about graphs, i just saw the trailer again and keep my oppinion. the anime scenes dont have motion whatsoever and the demons move pixel by pixel, like theyre 8bits

also, summoning multiple demons seems broken to me...

at least you can use alot of jack frosts to get some laughs going

^ This is not a persona title.. it's THE core title by the way it has nothing to do with persona or the vita so I'm not quite sure I understand your first comment about the "Marketting move"?

Also, the way the movie elements are done are pretty amazing as they really add to the overall story and make it more intense... 8bit.. not seeing it unless you are talking about the guy from the monster fuzing.. who wel is made of blocks.

I'm 6 hours in and just finished the tutorial.. already dies multiple times so yea the difficulty is way up there and I have played just about every western SMT release. By far SMT4 is not perfect but so far I will have to say in the short time I've played it's started off better than any other and it looks amazing.

They officially announced a release date of September 19th for Europe. No word yet though on if they will do the same $30 promotion as they did in the US.
