Wow, that sucks.
I'm not really into competitive SSB, but that's a serious disappointment for those who are. Good luck to them in getting melee back on stream for EVO. Unlikely considering Nintendo's arrogance...

Btw crathen you interested in the new guilty gear?
It's a bit early to get hyped about it, but still... it's there.

Soooo let me get this straight. Nintendo held back the streaming because EVO never actually asked for permission to stream it in the first place, a bunch of fans who never bothered to see why Nintendo wasn't allowing it started complaining making a big deal out of it.. Once the EVO actually asked for permission properly nintendo agreed without problem. Ummm... Seems like Nintendo was the only one doing things properly in this situation.

And yes , Melee is back http://kotaku.com/nintendo-wont-let-top-fighting-game-tournament-stream-724293474

http://kotaku.com/nintendo-backs-down-allows-smash-bros-streaming-725940804

This is after the huge uproar made by the community that played SSBM for 12 years and donated like 95000 dollars to breast cancer research , they knew they could blow up N and would be very bad pubblicity to Nintendo , as you could see even Kotaku went after this.

This wasn't anything new too , happened at MLG 2010 and they never got the chance to stream the game.

Does Nintendo really have to be begged for free SSB pubblicity on the biggest FG event of the world to hype up people into buying a WiiU for Smash 4?

Dcj Nintendo wasn't actually doing things "properly" , no company ( Capcom , NRS , Namco , ASW ) ever actually blocked their game to be streamed , they've gone back on their decision only because they were FLOODED with petitions and messages on twitter by people that played their games for 12 years.

And let's not talk about the let's play xxxxxxxx game series on youtube the Nintendo wanted to take down and eventually backed on that too.

@Yamatsu i'm hype for GG man!Been playing Injustice atm

Though they sound the same, there is a difference in "proper" and "popular".

Also, never said I agreed with either side, what I do think though is that fans often have a way of jumping at things and starting petitions before having all the facts or reasons behind something and media... Especially Kotaku, loves to make it seem worse than it often is.

As far as the who YouTube thing again... Not having all the facts, when did that occur? And how many other media sources have fought to have their properties shown by others removed as well?

Regardless. It seems to be working out for everyone which seems to be a good thing.

I'm saying Nintendo has to keep up with the times , streaming games is becoming way more popular in the last 2 years thanks to Twitch and how easy and cheap a capture card costs nowdays , people playing your game showcase it to other people who might pick it up because they're liking what they are seeing.

I agree that people on the internet ( or especially on TV ) like to jump the gun and starting shit but that isn't the case with most fighting games communities who have played a companys' game for years.

Kotaku , that i dislike and they're always trying to start drama on the most trivial "politically correct" shit.

On the let's play thing http://kotaku.com/nintendos-lets-play-drama-might-have-a-happy-ending-513818999 ( joystiq and other sites covered this thing too , just a quick link ).

In the end i'd like Nintendo to get rid of the old jap mentality in a new world of gaming that is pretty much in the making right now and they're always behind for many reason.

^ Apparently you are behind the times then...

Nintendo does a lot of streaming of their own games. In fact the WiiU and 3ds both have links to a lot of game streams and videos across you tube. Also... Your last statement is not very researched at all...

A lot of the reasons many of the japanease companies are against Nintendo is because they aren't keeing with the "Jap Mentality".

Nintendo is one of the few companies working to localise games and release them world wide (in all regions) on the same dates. They are also one of the few that work closely with their communities and employees.

What has been happening recently however is a lot of companies (not just Nintendo Japan) have been underfire from hackers, games have been miss represented and currently with the new SSB getting readdy to be released have you thought that nintendo may have other interests in why they want to be more cautious in how the current and older versions of SSB are being represented...

Don't get me wrong, again I think it's a good thing that they have agreed.. I just don't think that the people attacking them may have fully understood why they might have been cautious and not wanted it shown in the first place until they had more information themselves.

How i am behind the times?

Does WiiU have a Twitch app like Xbox? Will they allow streaming directly from your console?Does it help that WiiU price is still 300 bucks when next gen is coming for 400/500 bucks and way ahead in potential power?Bad advertising on the WiiU?Miiverse being a closed social network ( wich can be good and bad )?Not having twitter / facebook integration? EA saying bye?

And i'm missing a lot of stuff.

Also some N employees themselves shared their opinion by saying that their marketing / gaming view is still in the '90.

And let's not talk about online functionality.

The argument you make about them "making sure" of how SSBM will represent the new Smash is...kinda nonsense.

First of all SSBM was announced to be in EVO from months , and N comes out to say stop the last 3 days?
2nd they should have known ( unless their PRs live under a rock ) they would get blown up by everyone ( just google Nintendo streaming game ) and that's bad pubblicity for the company.
Lastly how can be a FG tournament make a game look bad with 700+ people coming from everywhere in the world to compete and the crowd getting hype and cheer over it?

You might not have ever seen an EVO or you would know that.

Twitch is ONLY on the xbox, not Sony or nintendo systems due to it's other affiliates for the most part. Mainly because Microsoft has a partnership with them and stock in many of the (American) companies they affiliate with. So I wouldn't exspect to see it on sony or nintendo at all. In fact Sony ditched Twitch to go with Ustream.

And in Nintendos case they became a YouTube partner in February 2013. Meaning that they most likely had very good reason to originally deny a rival company from streaming it's games. It's likely they had to make sure there were no legal issues with their YouTube deal before even allowing twitch to show their games.
