Possible Switch-Axe spin-off?

As you may know, many weapon classes(LS, HH, etc.) are spin-offs of other classes. The Switch Axe is one of the few that has no spin-off. With Gen 4 coming, we could expect a new weapon. So, do you think it will be a brand new weapon, or a switch axe spinoff, like, say, a Switch-Sword, or something? Post your ideas.

But the switch axe switches into a sword? Would a switch sword switch into an axe, in order to do less power, and lose the phial? Meh, there's no new weapon coming for mh4, i'm pretty sure. Besides, i want a gunhammer (a real one, not the aggy hamma) first. Or a bowgun that shoots felynes.

That'd be awfully awkward due to the shield. Also, it doesn't fit both the lance and the hammer style, hammer being a get-in-deal-damage-get-out weapon, and the lance being a stick-to-it weapon. The swax works, because it sacrifices mobility for power at an appropriate point, before bailing. The mechanics of the lance and the hammer are just not made for combining.

Anyway, lance already has the gunlance as spinoff.

If you ask me, the Swaxe doesn't need a "spin-off weapon". It's already 2 different weapons put into one.

i was thinking more along the lines of bow, so itd be similar to a gunlance in that you dont really need to bring "ammo"

true, true. but the other weapon is pretty much a spirit combo though. so i see no reason why they cant do this.

Probably the most logical idea of your idea is if they made a Double Edged Sword switching into Dual Swords.

Along the same line of thinking as Chips but, instead of a dual-bladed sword, a..... wait a minute, brainstorm here! Segmented dual swords that can be combined for a whip-blade mode with a phial-like energy source to determine how long you can use it. Combo hits build up a secondary bar similar to a spirit guage, which can be expended in a demonization that deals area elemental/status damage similar to a monster's wind aura. Unbalanced, yes. Badass, definitely.

I feel like this topic is going to turn into a "what weapon would we like to see in game" kind of topic, like we haven't had plenty of those lol.

Switch hammer.

Hammer at the start, switches to.... another big hammer-eh I got nuthin...

What about a GS where you can fold the large blade into a hammer style weapon. It would be the ultimate weapon! /yes/

I actually like the idea of Nun-Chucks. It would be a very quick weapon with lots of hits but most likely low damage. You would be doing several hits for everyone elses 1 hit but at something say 100-300 damage per hit at the most. Hopefully the drawing and putting away would be quick as well. that would be a bonus to using this weapon. It would be an amazing status attack weapon also.

I once thought of the Swith Axe having a spin off called Swith Whip, a whip weapon that can change to LS.

sounds suspiciously a lot like duel swords minus the demons.

How about a GS that can turn into 2 LS

Maybe the switch axe can separate into two different weapons?


Heavy Axe and Power sword.

Axe: Maneuvers like a regular axe, but has extra power moves and a demon mode like the dual swords.

Sword: Controls like the SA sword, but has easy access explosive properties and doesn't need to have an energy bar in order to attack. It loses the Phial ability, but gains a couple of extra moves and Gunlance like explosive abilities.

just a thought...

I think a spear would be cool, you'd have a shield and do a lance style of attack, then you put the shield on your back and you'd do a mix of stabbing it, slashing at it and hitting it with the blunt end of the spear

Family Photo's of your Vacation or your Aunt with cheak pinching ability... Hu...Huh?!!!

Though I have no doubt they may add new weapons my interest is also in how they will change the older weapons. With new game mechanics the weapons we currently have will probably work a bit differently making them basically new weapons as well. And I don't see some weapons working at all when you are climbing on top of a monster.

You jump off a cliff with your weapon high in the air and... You drop the weapon fall to the ground faster than said weapon and then the weapon impaled you, or the weapon land holt first and you spear yourself on the weapon
