Spoiler:
So apparently this is how you will play the game with the pro controller, what do you all think about this? Do you guys think you will choose to use the pro controller knowing that you have to have the pad within reaching distance for you to use items and what not?

I think it will be like Nintendo always does...

You will have a choice of how you want to play. You can use the classic controlor or the GamePad.. or possible the Wii/Nunchuk...

Nintendo has always allowed for multiple ways of play, that's one of the good things about them.

It's the exact same way in Tri G. You can just use the controller alone if you want, or you can take the entire HUD from the main screen onto the gamepad/lower screen.

Unless I absolutely have to use the gamepad for a mic (I doubt they'd give headset support for the Gamepad and not the Pro (And this is assuming that I'm playing with people that I'd be comfortable talking to over a mic)), I'll be going Pro controller all the way.

I'll stick with the GamePad.. I've had a chance to use it and though I don't like the way the back buttons are a bit inset from each other I like having everything right there in front of me and easily to navigate at the touch of a finger.... Also, it's kind of comfortable to hold...

It may just go like this:
Pro controller: like the Classic controller Pro on Tri
Wii controller: Play like you did on Tri
GamePad: Play like you would on the 3DS game.

^ I agree with the first two but not on the game pad...

even with the Slide pad attachment for the 3DS the game pad is quit different in feel/look and control than what you whould get from the 3DS.

With the pad I think you are going to get the most "All Around" ease of control in one place.. but like with anything I think each person will find what they are best at..

I do hope with the pad though they keep all the screen customization options (leaving off they directional pad of course ;) ) As even if you decide to use other means of control I like the option of clancing down or reaching over to look at the map or choose items and change weapons and like mentioned in another post use the pad as a keyboard if I want to leave a message up about a particular monster I just hunted and tips on how to kill it.

^ I was just going off your comment...

In case you haven't noticed.. I sometimes lack insight into the broader scope of what people mean at times... <--- but at least I know that.

So if you ment more than your comment stated about "GamePad: Play like you would on the 3DS game." I may have missed it.

That controller seems awkward but so does the gamepad also I never liked talking through other means than just face to face why I never talk on the phone or skype. So even if the pad comes chat enabled it will be something I would not use I rather use the pro controler or wiimote

Pay no mind to my response, I was just having a little fun.
:D

Anyway, my post was really about having a playstyle similar to the 3DS, though there are plenty of differences, the playstyle (two screens) is pretty much very similar.

Personally, like with Tri, I will have a shot with all control options! The GamePad may be useful for it's (possible) on-screen keyboard. But the Pro Pad will offer the best gaming experience in my opinion, as the Classic Controller Pro did for me on Tri. I just can't wait for MH3U.

Definatly will be using the Pro-controller on this one. It may take some sometime to adjust having LS above the ABXY.

With the new images and new information about the way the screen looks in the Game Pad I don't think the original posted image is completely acurate. In the new images it shows the pad images restricted to one side or the other and basically the exact same as the 3DS down to the virtual (D)pad. Where its centered in the "promo" image.

I think in some ways having the information on the Gamepad the exact same as that as the 2nd screen of the 3DS with no enhancements or changes spacificly for the WiiU it makes using the classic controler a bit more of an incentive and having the pad set up to just veiw other players information and maps basically like it does on the posted picture.

The the icons for the touchscreen are fully customisable so you could just have the main HUD & map down there if you wanted or the virtual d-pad with the monster "lock on" or a combo of all that stuff.

On topic:
I'll be going with the game pad itself, after having a go of one recently its really comfortable, light & as I said above putting a map on there seals the deal for me.

Also remember there is a WiiU spacific (Wireless) Classic Pro controller as well.

Here is a little information on that..

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120146-Wii-U-Pro-Controller-Boasts-80-Hour-Battery-Life

Also the WiiU will have it's own Mote as well which if i recall correctly is a bit better than the wii one as well.

Here are the Wii and WiiU Pro controllers side by side:
