Barioth, unlike other monsters, does not need to face you to start attacking. If he turns get ready to dodge/block.

I must ask, are you speaking of the Barroth or Barioth? You say Barroth but put a picture of Barioth.

Anyways, if it's Barroth, just make sure you watch out for his charge, a lance is always a good choice for new players (the spiral lance is highly recommended)
If its the Barioth, then just keep an eye on him, and don't let yourself feel safe unless you are in a different area than him. And of course fire is a good weapon to use against him, so if you have the querapeco hammer or sword and shield, those would be good choices. Either that or rely on raw power. (Unless you have thunder available at that point, then to for a lagiacrus weapon, that should get him good ;) )

Anyways, welcome to the community and the world of monster hunter! We all look forward to hunting with you in the future!

Barroth =/= Barioth.

Barroth is like a Rook. Looks like a Tyranasaurs with a fat rock crown. Charges in straight lines and likes to back-pedal before attacking.

Barioth is like a knight. Looks like a mix between a white sabertooth tiger and a terradactyl. It moves in spurts of different jumps. Has a little wind up animation, then jumps, side jumps, jumps again, and jumps some more if enraged.

Barroth is the first "Challenge", mainly because everything you have faught up to him has been pretty straightforward and the openings are very obvious. With Barroth, you have to start to learn monster pathing. You will start out running around in circles with each other, specially if you like to try to cut tails. Then there is the status affliction of mud, and finally the charge, reposition, charge... spam that he likes to do. He is very open at the end of the charges, as long as you do not try to attack him when he finishes that charge and is starting to reposition. Run after him when he passes you on the charge, and predict where he will go for the reposition, and hit him there. That has been a good stratagy, but there are several others.

Welcome to the forum and Monster Hunter!

Because you said you have had the game about a week I am going to assume that you are going to be fighting Barroth. First thing I want to ask is, what are your armor and weapon choices. Personally I have a few strategies depending on what weapon I am using against him. My favorite against Barroth is the lance. His charge is his most dangerous attack and tha lance lets you laugh at him as he tries to hit you. I also like the SnS and the GS. For those weapons try to stay close to him because he will charge at you less. When he does charge at you, evade to the right of his charge because his tail swings very wide to the left when he stops. That gives you a nice opening to get in a few hits. If you are on the wrong side when he charges, chances are you'll get by the tail and lose that oportunity.

I will also encourage you to learn as much as you can about the skills that are given from your armor. They are the most useful thing about armor. But you probably already knew that from browsing the forum here.

Good hunting!

Hello there! Welcome to the MH Wiki forums. Hope you enjoy your time here~! /yes/

And with my first fight against Barroth, I had the Ludroth Lance, which gets his mud off quite quickly with the water element. It also worked fine because you can block his attacks just nicely!

Don't believe I welcomed you... just stated some facts. So first: welcome, and enjoy your stay.

Now, when you say you were using a mix/match set of armor, are you going for certain skills? Or just going for the highest defence possible? I ask cause the very first time I played the game, I had no idea that you needed a certain amount of points before a skill would appear.

You can have armor that says it has Health +2, but it doesn't really mean that you now have more health. Instead, it just states that you have 2 skill points into that skill. To activate it, you need 10 or more points. So among all your armor, you should have a total of 10 points, and you get 20 health. 15 and you get 50 health extra, which is really good.

Sometimes it is better to have skills instead of defense. So look for complete sets of armor, or even "weaker" armor that activates skills that can be useful for your style of fighting.

If you knew all this already, my appologies. Enjoy your gaming!

That's just means he's exhausted, and will be more sluggish. It doesn't nessesarily mean that he's almost dead, he will star limping near death.

Also, I'm glad to seem someone enjoying the switch axe, but I highly recommend looking into other weapons like lances or hammers or even great swords. These weapons are more likely to have specific strategies and useful armor sets dedicated to them. The switch axe doesn't really have many skills that improve its use. There's constitution, to make you able to evade more frequently, but even it isn't THAT useful.

Congratulations on hunting barroth! You beat it the first time too. The first few times I fought it I failed the quest.

If you want to put the time in it, the Qurupecco armor is a good armor set to get. It has the evasion +1 skill which extends the time you can't get hit while dodging. It can be gemmed up to evasion +2 which extends that time even further. A very usefull skill when using the switch-axe. It also has a defence up skill and one that improves recovery item use (I forget the name of it).

When a monster is drooling that means it's tired. This dosen't neccesarily mean it's weak. However, when it's tired it takes longer for it to get out of traps and often it just stands there waiting for you to hit it. Basicly, tired = free hits. If you are interested in using the hammer, it's a great weapon for making a monster tired.
